Heavyweight slugger Roy “Big Country” Nelson added another vicious knockout victory to his record at last night’s (September 25, 2016) UFC Fight Night 95, drilling Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva with a brutal right hand in the second round. Nelson was forced to follow up with a few extra blows, however, and it was clear that he wasn’t pleased with the stoppage, as he actually threw a kick towards referee John McCarthy:

“It was a push,” Nelson said of the kick at the UFC Fight Night 95 post-fight press conference. “It was more of like, dude, come on.

“Then we had a conversation in the cage. I was like, ‘Dude, he was knocked out.’ And [McCarthy] was like, ‘No, he wasn’t.’ And I’m like, dude, I know what a knockout is. I knock people out. That’s what I do for a living. I know what a knockout is. Just because the guy didn’t roll his eyes into the back of his head, or shake, or whatever … it was just one of those things.”

“Big Country” admits that he got caught up in the heat of the moment, but he doesn’t regret his actions. Nelson simply said that “Bigfoot” didn’t need to take any more damage:

“I didn’t want to hurt ‘Bigfoot’ more than I had to,” Nelson said. “And I got taken by the moment, because it’s like I’m beating the sh*t out of somebody and you’re like, dude, enough is enough. And for me, it hurt my feelings. And I apologize to Big John, but I wouldn’t take it back. It just hurt me, that I’ve got to keep on hitting a guy that doesn’t need to be hit.”

“I knew I already knocked him out with my first punch, and then I got him one more time,” Nelson said. “In my head, it was like slow-mo, like I’m having a conversation with John going, ‘hey man, how is the weather over there?’ That’s what it felt like. I’m friends with ‘Bigfoot,’ and he has a family. I don’t need to keep on punching him in his face. And it’s not one of those (things) like, if I hit him so hard that he fell flat on his face, I would’ve just walked off like Mark Hunt. But he fell on his back.”

“It wasn’t like [McCarthy] was so far away. He was over here to my side, and I know I had a conversation (with him). I’m like, he’s out. He’s like, ‘no he’s not, keep on moving.’ So for me, I feel like I’m giving ‘Bigfoot’ extra damage, where he doesn’t actually need to get hit that much.”

What do you make of Nelson’s reaction to the stoppage?

UFC Fight Night 95 is on our doorstep. Cris Cyborg will fight on home turf in Brasilia, Brazil as she takes on Muay Thai veteran and UFC debutante Lina Lansberg in the main event. Entering the top slot in Brazil doesn’t come without a price for Cyborg, who is currently deep in to a nasty 30-pound weigh cut to make 140 pounds. The catchweight headliner is backed up by a featherweight clash that features former bantamweight boss Renan Barao against Phillipe Nover.

The Brazilian ‘Baron’ had a tough debut at 145 pounds as he lost the decision to Jeremy Stephens last time out. Now without a win since his submission over Mitch Gagnon, Barao will need to step it up against the BJJ black belt Nover. In the heavyweight division Roy Nelson will battle Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva. ‘Big Country’ has that brutal KO power and Silva’s form recently would indicate a likely finish in this clash, but you never know.

Roy Nelson Rips USADA: I Could Do A Better Job

Heavyweight slugger Roy “Big Country” Nelson has always been an advocate for stricter drug testing in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), which would make you think that he’s content with the UFC bringing in the help of third-party testing organization United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Nelson is scheduled to face off with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the co-main event of this weekend’s (September 24, 2016) UFC Fight Night 95, and he was recently tested ahead of the fight, although he wasn’t pleased with the answer he received when he asked when the results would be in:

“We got USADA doing the testing, and I got tested last week, and I said, ‘Are the tests going to be back before the card I’m fighting on?’” Nelson told MMAjunkie. “They said they don’t know. So that’s how good USADA is.”

Not only that, but “Big Country” feels as if he could do a better job himself:

“I want to know how much (UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance) Jeff Novitzky gets paid and how much USADA gets paid because I could take their jobs and do a 10 times better job,” Nelson said. “I’d actually just make sure it actually counts and not give certain guys a pass. Then, when there’s a guy we don’t care about, he all of a sudden pops or pops after the fight then suspend them for a year after you’ve already made money off them. It doesn’t make any sense.”

“It can definitely get better,” Nelson said. “I’ll take Jeff’s job and still keep my job, and I could do a better job because it’s not that hard. It’s not that hard to do the smell test.”

Nelson will look to bounce back this weekend after losing four of his last five bouts.
