Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz returns to action in December — and he’s back in a full-time role.

Ortiz returned to action last year when he won his trilogy fight with Chuck Liddell in a Golden Boy MMA event. He stated he was done fighting afterwards, only to sign a deal with Combate Americas — where he’ll face Alberto El Patron in December.

The main reason he’s back competing? He feels he has unfinished business especially after an injury-ridden career:

“I was not really into walking away [after the Chuck Liddell fight] just because I felt I still had so much more to go,” Ortiz told MMA Fighting. “I was 43 at the time, and one of my friends, Randy Couture, I had to ask him what made him come back at 43 and win the heavyweight world title in the UFC. He said, ‘Tito, I wasn’t done, I had a lot more to do,’ and that’s all I needed to hear.

“I’m healthy. You’ve got to understand from 2003 to 2014, I’ve been riddled with injuries—back and neck and knees and I’ve had four neck surgeries, a back surgery, three knee surgeries—my body is finally reacting the right way when I was champ. I feel like that. I feel better now than when I was in my 30s because I’m able to put in hard work in the gym.”

Ortiz expects to get the win over the former professional wrestler — who does have some mixed martial arts experience — and is already looking ahead.

He plans on becoming a world champion again and facing Bellator’s two division champion Ryan Bader, who he notably beat as an underdog back at UFC 132 in 2011.

“I would like to chase after a world title after this.” Ortiz said. “I know Ryan Bader is the heavyweight world champion and the light heavyweight world champion of Bellator.

“I would like to go after that light heavyweight belt and give him a chance at redemption when I beat him back in 2011.”

But first things first — smash El Patron and put on a show on December 7:

“Right now it’s all Alberto Del Rio,” Ortiz added. “Smash him and make it look easy.”

Bellator 226 ended underwhelmingly on Saturday night, but there were some fireworks as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson attempted to brawl with Ryan Bader.

The event was headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Bader and Cheick Kongo. The champion dominated the fight for as long as it went on until it was eventually ruled a no contest after an alleged eye poke on Kongo nearly four minutes into the first round.

Footage later showed it wasn’t an eye poke but more so, a nose poke. Regardless, Kongo’s teammate and friend Jackson wasn’t having any of it as he wanted to trade blows with Bader after the fight. However, the pair were separated.

You can see the altercation below:

As for Bader’s version of events, he claims the former UFC light heavyweight champion tried to fight him and claimed he eye poked Kongo on purpose:

”I was walking out and then there was this big fat guy where the gate opens up and he’s saying something like ‘You did that s**t on purpose.’” Bader said (via MMA Mania). “Or whispering or whatever. And then he’s trying to fight me. So I didn’t know what was going on.

“You know, I went through the whole debacle with the non-eye poke, the nose poke. Got a video too here in my pocket. He just comes at me, saying ‘F**k you’ and all that kind of stuff. It is what it is. Walk back into the middle of the cage and say ‘Let’s go then.’ He got held back by my dad, I think. And that was it.”

Bader and Jackson notably fought at UFC 144 back in 2012 with the former coming out on top. One wonders if a rematch is in the works now?

While it’s almost impossible now, Bellator heavyweight champion Ryan Bader did make an effort to fight former UFC heavyweight title-holder Daniel Cormier.

Cormier and Bader were previously slated to fight in a light heavyweight bout when they were both in the UFC. And with both fighters holding the heavyweight title for their respective promotions over the past year, there was talk of a potential cross-promotional fight.

That’s not happening now especially after Cormier lost his heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic last month at UFC 241. However, Bader tried to make it happen as his management reached out to the UFC:

“You know where I stand on the Cormier fight, I wanted that fight forever,” Ryan Bader told MMA Fighting. “We tried to get Cormier [in] cross-promotion, champ-champ versus champ-champ fight, we reached out to see if there was any interest in doing a little cross-promotion. It’s probably never going to happen but you never know. It’s happened before in boxing, I don’t see the UFC doing it with Bellator but you never know.

“My manager has a relationship with both [organizations] and he threw the idea out there. I don’t think it went too far but it’s one of those things where eventually something like that is going to happen. You never know. It could happen with us.”

In reality, it doesn’t seem likely even if Cormier did retain his title against Miocic. But even if that fight never happens, Bader still believes he’s the best heavyweight in the world:

“For me, I believe that [I am the best],” he added. “If you don’t believe that, then you shouldn’t be in this sport. I do believe I’m the best in the world.

I believe coming up to heavyweight, I can shine. That’s where I feel the best in terms of being agile, speed, cardio, all that kind of stuff plus I have the power. It was nice to get that recognition, too. So now I just have to go out there and continue to prove it.”

Bader defends his heavyweight title against Cheick Kongo at Bellator 226 this weekend.

Who do you think would have won in a Cormier vs. Bader fight?
