Ryan Garcia

Boxing star Ryan Garcia has fight fans worried, confused, or a little bit of both following a bizarre post on social media.

Garcia has found himself the subject of multiple headlines over the last week. On Monday, he drew the ire of UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley when he told Ariel Helwani that he would “destroy” ‘Sugar’ inside the Octagon. Days later, ‘The Flash’ had to defend himself during a press conference after his next opponent, Devin Haney, accused him of using cocaine.

On Sunday, Garcia once again had people talking after making a rather alarming post online featuring a short, but chaotic video and a caption referencing satanism or some kind of demonic possession.

“MARCH 3 SUNDAY 2024 we slit RG THROAT AND THRU HIM IN A BASKET NOBODY WILL FIND HIM BSABJANANANANANAJQKA ANAIQNANSBSNANABA A SNSNSNWKWNA S ANANSNSN SATAN SITTING AT THE TOP NOW. 666,” the post on X reads.

Fans Rally around Ryan Garcia

Users were genuinely concerned for Garcia’s mental health, flooding the comments with well-wishes.

“Ryan I’m really praying for you right now cause i feel bad for you.”

“You okay bro?”

“Please tell me Ryan is ok…”

“Bro as a fan of yours, this is just a weird way of promoting. I don’t even know if you’re trolling or you’re actually going through some shit this time lmao. This isn’t normal. Just pull out at this point please.”

“You need help man, please pull out of this fight.”

“Someone please confirm he is ok. They already entered his home and robbed him once. Please tell me this young guy with hard discipline and faith in god is ok.”

It is possible that Ryan Garcia’s X account was hacked, though it should be noted that the same video and caption appeared on his Instagram stories. Many of those commenting also believe that it is in fact Garcia manning the camera in the clip.

Jake Paul welcomes light work fight with Ryan Garcia I'm a better boxer

Off the back of last night’s first round TKO win over Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico, polarizing professional oxer, Jake Paul has warned former world championship holder, Ryan Garcia from chasing a fight with him in the future – claiming it would end badly for the 25-year-old.

Paul, who made his tenth professional walk to the squared circle overnight in San Juan, turned in a dominant opening round TKO win over the above-mentioned former Golden Gloves winner, the overmatched, Bourland.

And improving his winning spree to three consecutive fights, the Ohio native added Bourland to a string of wins over Andre August, and a decision shutout success against former UFC lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz

Calling for a showdown with current super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez in the future, Paul was hit with a warning of his own from former interim WBC lightweight titleholder, Garcia – who vowed to put an end to the social media star’s fleeting boxing career once and for all.

“Okay enough, it’s on I’m going to have to do this!” Ryan Garcia posted on his official X account. “I’m going to end this JAKE PAUL BOXING THING. BRING IT ON JAKE I’M DEAD F*CKING SERIOUS F*CK YOU! HIT MY TEAM UP.”

Replying to Garcia’s offer of a future showdown, Paul claimed was an outright better boxer than the former world championship holder, describing a pairing as “light work”.

Jake Paul welcomes Ryan Garcia fight in the future

“Ryan (Garcia), I love you.” Jake Paul said after last night’s win. “You know that, bro. But you’ve got to chill out. Because there’s a line and you just seem like you’re losing your mind, and acting thirsty and desperate and saying you’re a billionaire when you had one money fight.”

“I’m just saying, just chill, bro,” Jake Paul continued. “But if you do want to fight, that’s, to me, light work. You’ve got no footwork. And as long as you’ve been in the game, I’m a better boxer than you.”

Ryan Garcia faces off with Devin Haney

The press conference between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney erupted into allegations of drug use.

On Saturday, April 20, Haney will put his WBC super lightweight title on the line against ‘The Flash’ in a bout scheduled to emanate from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Ahead of their highly anticipated clash, the two warriors met at a press event in Los Angeles to promote the bout.

While there, Garcia struggled to speak at times, citing a sore throat. That led Haney to accuse Garcia of using cocaine and suggesting that the former interim lightweight champion stop partaking in the substance to help preserve his voice. Garcia immediately denied the allegations.

“I want to clarify some things,” Garcia said as Haney continued to levy allegations. “I don’t do cocaine. I would do a live drug test… I drink, and I smoke weed, and so has the majority of this room. You finally got somebody that raised their hands saying I’m real, I’m like this, I do drink, I do smoke, now what? Guess what? We all have flaws, and we all evolve as people.

It’s the second time this week that Ryan Garcia has found himself the subject of many a headline.

During an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ‘King Ryan’ claimed that he would “destroy” UFC bantamweight world champion Sean O’Malley inside the Octagon. That sparked a bitter back-and-forth between the two combat sports stars, ending with ‘Sugar’ stating that he would kill Garcia “within minutes.”

Garcia goes into his title fight with Haney carrying a 24-1 record, his lone loss coming against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in April 2023. He has since bounced back with an eighth-round KO of Oscar Duarte in December.

Haney, on the other hand, is undefeated in his pro boxing career with a 31-0 record, 15 of those victories coming by way of knockout.

Sean O’Malley fired back at Ryan Garcia after the former interim WBC lightweight champion made the bold claim that he would hand ‘Sugar’ an ass-whoopin’ in his own sport.

Garcia – who is scheduled to challenge WBC super lightweight titleholder Devin Haney on April 20 — ruffled some feathers during an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, claiming that he would “destroy” the UFC’s bantamweight king in a proposed crossover clash.

“I’ll beat his ass in MMA guaranteed,” Garcia said. “I’m a natural, you don’t understand. I’m a natural wrestler. I just beat my security that’s a wrestler, I beat him. I’m strong and I’ve got crazy conditioning. … I will come with everything I have and I will destroy Sean O’Malley. In the UFC.”

It didn’t take long for word to get back to Sean O’Malley.

“Buddy. Brother. I would kill you within minutes,” O’Malley said on his TimboSugarShow podcast. “It’s just not even realistic.

“It’s crazy how stupid and delusional that is. I wonder if people think that when I call out boxers though. Is that the same kind of thing? I mean, it is a little bit crazy when I call out boxers. A little bit. Not a ton. Not a 100 percent crazy. A little bit. But when he boxers say they want to fight in MMA, 100 percent crazy.” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Sean O’Malley would neutralize Ryan Garcia with his kickboxing arsenal

Historically, boxers have not always fared well when attempting to cross over into the world of mixed martial arts. The most notorious example is James Toney’s ill-advised fight with Octagon icon Randy Couture at UFC 118. ‘The Natural’ quickly took Toney down to the mat and submitted him in the first round.

The fight went pretty much how fight fans expected it to go, but O’Malley doesn’t believe that replicating Couture’s strategy will be necessary. Instead, ‘Sugar’ would like to put his kickboxing skills to work should the hypothetical showdown come to fruition.

“I don’t need to take him down — I mean, I could take him down and choke him, but it’s like, I would kick him in the f*cking body,” O’Malley added. “I would kick his little sticks. Whatever the f*ck I wanted to him,” O’Malley said. “I could box him with MMA gloves. It’s a different sport just with those little MMA gloves. The distance is different.

“It was cute. I could beat him and Devin Haney in the same night back-to-back in a fight. It’s just not competitive. Pure delusion.”

On Saturday, March 9, Sean O’Malley is scheduled to defend his 135-pound crown for the first time against the only man to hand him a loss inside the Octagon, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

Oscar De La Hoya challenges UFC CEO Dana White to fight in a potential co-main event with Garcia vs O’Malley

Oscar De La Hoya

If Ryan Garcia gets to fight Sean O’Malley inside the Octagon, Oscar De La Hoya hopes to snag a spot on the card against Dana White.

During Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Garcia called out the reigning UFC bantamweight champion, claiming that he would hand ‘Sugar’ an ass-whooping inside the Octagon if given the opportunity. Soon after, De La Hoya — Garcia’s promoter — stepped into the studio and angled for an opportunity to fight the UFC CEO in some kind of a potential boxing vs. MMA supercard.

“I would actually entertain that because Ryan can fight in the main event and maybe I can [fight] Dana in the co-main” De La Hoya said when speaking about Garcia’s challenge to O’Malley.

The feud between Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya dates back to 2017 when the UFC boss was in the middle of co-promoting Conor McGregor’s clash with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. De La Hoya said the bout was “disrespecting the sport of boxing,” which clearly didn’t sit well with White. In 2021, White called De La Hoya a “crackhead” on X (then Twitter) and accused him of using COVID as an excuse to bow out of a boxing match with MMA legend Vitor Belfort.

Since then, De La Hoya has extended an olive branch to White, hoping that they could eventually squash their long-standing rivalry. Asked about his relationship with the UFC CEO, ‘The Golden Boy’ told Helwani:

“We’re cool. It’s all good. Well, I don’t know if we’re cool. I haven’t talked to the guy. I’m good, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go at it.”

Dana White echoed the same “we’re cool” sentiment in 2022 but made it clear that the two would never be friends again.

“I feel like De La Hoya’s apology was sincere, but there’s no way that he and I can ever be friends again,” White said during a fan Q&A with GQ Sports. “He and I were actually friends. I used to go to his fights. I used to watch his fights. I used to promote his fights. That guy did way too much damage for us to ever be friends again. I appreciate his apology. I get it. We’re cool, but we’re never going to be that cool” (h/t Bleacher Report).

Ryan Garcia wants to fight Sean O'Malley in the Octagon

Ryan Garcia is ready to trade in his eight-ounce gloves for a pair of four-ouncers.

The former interim WBC lightweight titleholder has struck up a rivalry with one of the UFC’s top stars and current bantamweight world champion, Sean O’Malley. Garcia recently declared that he would be more than willing to fight ‘Sugar’ inside the Octagon, so long as Dana White writes him a big fat check for doing so.

‘The Flash’ doubled down on his post during an appearance on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.

“I’ll beat his ass in MMA, guaranteed,” Garcia said. “You don’t understand, I’m a natural wrestler. I just beat my security who’s a wrestler. I beat him. I’m strong and I got crazy conditioning. I know I’m gonna knock him out in boxing. That’s not even fair. What’s fair is to test myself in MMA because I know if I put my mind to it and train every day and I had Nate [Diaz] helping me, even Alex Pereira… All of them and I really locked in, he will not beat me.

“I will come with everything I have and I will destroy Sean O’Malley in the UFC. I’ve already sent text messages to Dana [White]. I’ve already got people connected to Dana to ask him. Let’s do this. I’ll come to the UFC. Pay me a bag and I’m there. I’m down to do it.”

Historically, mixed martial artists have done pretty well moving from MMA to boxing, but the other way around has often produced disastrous results. The most notorious example was at UFC 118 in August 2010 when multi-time boxing world champion James Toney stepped inside the Octagon for a crossover clash with Randy Couture. As expected, Couture quickly took down Toney and submitted him in the opening round.

Not to suggest that Ryan Garcia would suffer the same fate. In all likelihood, Sean O’Malley would opt to stand and trade in an attempt to beat the boxing star at his own game. That would give Garcia a fair chance to score what would undoubtedly be a massive upset — not just for O’Malley, but for the sport of MMA.

On Saturday, April 20, ‘King Ryan’ will challenge reigning and defending WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney. The bout is expected to emanate from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, NY.
