While some have reacted negatively to the fact that 19-year-old UFC newcomer Sage Northcutt is already earning $40,000 show and $40,000 win purses in his first two fights inside the Octagon, the rookie sensation is quick to point out his value to the promotion.

Northcutt spoke about the reaction to his UFC pay during a recent interview with the folks at MMAJunkie.com.

“I want everyone in the UFC to make as much money as they can. I want the best and the most money everyone can make in the UFC. I think and I believe that I bring something different to the table — something that makes people want to tune in and watch. (Fighters need to bring) something that’s of value to the UFC. I think that’s really important with the UFC, and people can see that with me.”

The well-paid UFC newcomer will make his Octagon return at UFC On FOX 18 on January 31st, where as recently reported, he will be fighting Bryan Barbarena in a 170-pound fight instead of competing against Andrew Holbrook in a 155-pound fight as originally scheduled.

19 year old fighting phenom “Super” Sage Northcutt has taken the UFC by storm, compiling two straight stoppage wins, one being a 57 second demolition of Francisco Trevino, since entering the promotion last October.

Northcutt was scheduled to make his third Octagon appearance against Andrew Holbrook at this weekend’s (January 30, 2016) UFC on FOX 18 from Newark, New Jersey. After Holbrook suffered an injury, however, it was announced that Northcutt would be moving up to welterweight to take on late replacement Bryan Barberena.

Despite having already started his cut down to 155-pounds, “Super” Sage admits that he feels even more super fighting at welterweight:

“I found out that my opponent that I was going to fight broke his foot, and that was at 155,” Northcutt told MMAjunkie.com. “So now the new opponent that got arranged for me is at 170, welterweight. I had actually cut back the amount of food I was eating. I was already getting close to my weight of fighting at 155, and now I feel great.

“I feel super strong. I feel like a super human getting to eat all this food and going back to welterweight at the last minute.”

Not only does he feel healthy and ready to go for this fight in particular, but Northcutt also touched on a possible future at 170 pounds:

“There is a chance that I might fight another fight at 170 or two more fights and go back to 155,” Northcutt said. “I’m not really sure yet exactly what the plan is, but it’s very possible I’ll have more fights and stay here at 170 and very possible I’ll go back to 155 in the future.”

Will “Super” Sage be able to keep the train rolling this weekend at the Prudential Center?

Iaquinta, who is snowed in up in the northeast, posted a video that reminded him of Northcutt and how peppy he is during his interviews. Check it out here:

“What goes through my head every time I hear the fucking Sage Northcutt speak.”

“Message I got from the fucking Sage Northcutt after I roasted him last tweet and shoved him in a locker.”

Iaquinta responded to a fan on Twitter and said that the UFC would never have him fight Northcutt and implied that he would beat Northcutt if given the opportunity.

“@MirkoCrosby relax its a joke…. They would never feed him to me lol.”

Iaquinta has been out of action since June of 2015 after suffering a knee injury. To be more exact, Iaquinta had very little cartilage left in his injured knee. Doctors transferred cartilage from a cadaver to Iaquinta’s leg, behind his knee cap. He was expected to be out action for six to eight months, so he should be ready to return to action soon.

On the other hand, Northcutt will be fighting Bryan Barberena at UFC on FOX 18.

It’s possible that if the UFC wanted to book this fight between the two they could. Do you want to see this fight? Let us know.

UFC bantamweight prospect Aljamain Sterling has an MMA record of 11-0, with a UFC record of 3-0, and he wants to start getting paid. Sterling cited Sage Northcutt as a fighter who he would like to be in the same earnings bracket as. Northcutt earned over $80,000 at UFN 80. Sterling explained his current position in an interview with MMA Junkie:

“This was before the Sage Northcutt salary came out. And then after it came out, then I really got going. If he can get that, then I should be able to get that, too. I could beat those guys. I’m a (bantamweight). I could bump up two weight classes and take those guys out – and finish them. So it was like, what?

“They’re trying to scapegoat me as the guinea pig for a fighters union, but that’s not what I’m trying to do. I’m just trying to get paid, just like anybody else is.

“I honestly think I can fight for the belt this year if things play out and maybe if Faber or somebody gets hurt. I hate to wish injury on anybody, but if that were to happen, I think I’m the guy to step up and get the job done. Bring some real flavor to this division.”

Sterling’s last fight completed his UFC contract, and he is a free agent as of press time.
