Bellator president Scott Coker has refused to rule out bringing UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou to his fight promotion.

‘The Predator’ is currently at odds with the MMA leader and it seems he could be on the verge of leaving the UFC to become one of the biggest free agents in sport.

Ngannou was paid just $600,000 for his latest fight, a unanimous decision win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. The fight was the last on Ngannou’s current contract, which has been extended due to a championship clause in the deal that ties ‘The Predator’ to the UFC for one year or three fights – whatever comes first.

The Cameroonian knockout artist has often expressed his desire to pursue big boxing fights and wants the freedom to do so before re-signing with the UFC.

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is ready to welcome Ngannou to the squared circle. ‘The Gypsy King’ says he will square off against the UFC heavyweight king in the first quarter of 2023.

Scott Coker Wants To Sign The Best Free Agents

In the aftermath of Bellator 274, Coker spoke with the media and was asked if wanted to bring Ngannou to his promotion.

“We haven’t talked to him because he’s still under contract, he still has championship fights but if he’s a free agent one day and you know the timing’s right, we feel it’s a good fit and you know we’ll decide that time,” Coker said. “The philosophy is still the same, look, if you’re a free agent and you want to come shop your wares and your brand and your business, come talk to us because we are in the business of signing the biggest and the best free agents on the planet.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Scott Coker: Bellator “Would Gladly” Bring Jake Paul Over To MMA

Bellator President Scott Coker has reiterated his willingness to bring Jake Paul over to MMA should the YouTuber-turned-boxer wish to switch sports.

As unlikely as it would have seemed a few years ago, Paul, a successful online personality and former Disney star, has become the newest sensation and big name in combat sports. Whether fans like him, hate him, respect him, or wish him to be gone, Paul’s impact in boxing can’t be denied.

In 2020, Paul began professional boxing venture. “The Problem Child” has built a perfect 5-0 record, with his level of opposition increasing with each appearance. After finishing fellow YouTube celebrity AnEsonGib and former NBA star Nate Robinson, Paul turned his attention to MMA fighters.

First came Ben Askren. The former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion was stopped inside one round. His friend and teammate Tyron Woodley then took up the challenge. As a former 170-pound UFC titleholder, many expected him to be the one to halt Paul’s presence in the sport.

Instead, the 24-year-old defeated Woodley twice, once via split decision last August and then by way of a brutal knockout four months later.

Coker Is Open To Doing Business With Paul

Paul’s ongoing journey in combat sports has certainly split opinion. While some, criticize the money he earns in boxing, the opposition he’s faced, and his outgoing personality, others have praised his impact in the sport, his willingness to face professional MMA stars, and his decision to speak out against the fighter pay structure in the UFC.

One man who certainly sits on the positive side of opinion is Bellator kingpin Scott Coker. The 59-year-old has previously expressed interest in doing business with both Jake and Logan Paul. Now, in an interview with MMA Junkie, Coker has once again praised the hard-working mindset of “The Problem Child.”

“I always said, ‘Look, these guys are real athletes, and they’re young, they work hard, they’re grinding it out. They’re putting in the work. You can’t take that away from them, and they’re getting better and better and better. What you saw with Woodley, that’s a lot of hard work to get to that point. I’ve never seen Woodley get knocked out like that, right? And so, is it just boxing? Yes. So, I always said, ‘Look, man, don’t underestimate these guys,’ and this was like a year-and-a-half ago.”

Coker went on to reiterate his openness for a business deal between his promotion and Paul. The former Strikeforce CEO suggested that if the 24-year-old wants to make the transition to mixed martial arts, Bellator will be waiting with open arms.

“If you want to come into MMA, we would gladly do it,” Coker said. “Think about this: He’s not saying, ‘I’m going to go train here. I’m going to go train there.’ He’s going to come to one of the best gyms in the planet, where Khabib is, where Daniel Cormier is still training, where Cain Velasquez is teaching there now, and he’s going to go into an environment that he is going to flourish, and he has a wrestling background already. He has great striking, obviously. You’ve seen it, and so this guy is just going to get better and better and better. The days of him fighting basketball players or whatever, those days are over.

“He wants to do it. The only thing I will say is, my understanding is he wants to get 10 fights into boxing, and then after that come over to mixed martial arts. I know certain people feel a certain way, but I tell you, don’t underestimate these guys because when they have their minds made up, it just seems like that they’re able to fulfill their destiny, and so to me, it’s something that if they want to make it happen, we would love to do something with them and put them in some big fights and really test them out.”

Although seemingly committed to more fights inside the squared circle, Paul has appeared open to a move to the cage. In a challenge recently sent to UFC President Dana White, Paul suggested he’d fight welterweight Jorge Masvidal inside the Octagon should White meet a number of clauses, including an increase in the minimum fighter pay number.

Whether Paul is really open to testing the waters of MMA and the UFC or simply playing on a challenge he knows White won’t accept is up for debate. But one thing is for certain, “The Problem Child” has gone beyond expectation so far. Perhaps he’ll do the same in MMA over the coming years.

Bellator president Scott Coker could be in the Jake Paul business if the polarizing YouTuber turned boxer transitions to MMA.

Paul is coming off of his sixth-round knockout over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley just weeks ago. Leading up to the rematch with Woodley, he hinted at a future move to MMA and has allegedly been in talks with the famous American Kickboxing Academy in California.

Coker and Bellator just enjoyed arguably the biggest year in the promotion’s history in 2021. New stars arose, such as AJ McKee, and Bellator made the broadcasting transition to Showtime with relative ease.

Coker and his promotion are constantly looking for new talent and aren’t ruling out eventually signing either one or both of the Paul brothers. During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Coker praised the Paul brothers and expressed a profound interest in signing Jake specifically.

Scott Coker Remains Interested In Signing Jake Paul To Bellator

“If you want to come into MMA, we would gladly do it,” Coker said. “Think about this: He’s not saying, ‘I’m going to go train here. I’m going to go train there.’ He’s going to come to one of the best gyms on the planet, where Khabib is, where Daniel Cormier is still training, where Cain Velasquez is teaching there now, and he’s going to go into an environment that he is going to flourish.”

I know certain people feel a certain way, but I tell you, don’t underestimate these guys because when they have their minds made up, it just seems like that they’re able to fulfill their destiny.”

Paul has been at odds with Coker’s former business partner, UFC president Dana White. The two have gone back-and-forth on social media and they’ve accused one another of doping.

Paul has said in the past that he intends to move to MMA at some point after a few more boxing fights, and it sounds like Bellator may be in the front of the line to potentially sign him.

Yaroslav Amosov vs. Michael Page Targeted For Bellator London Event

Michael Page

Michael Page will be making his first attempt to secure Bellator Gold on his home soil.

Bellator president Scott Coker has announced the promotion is targeting the matchup for the second quarter of 2022, with the newly crowned champion set for his first title defence to take place in the United Kingdom.

“We are in the process of putting that fight together now with him and MVP to fight in London at some point early next year.”

Michael Page was and still is destined for greatness in Bellator. He suffered his first loss at the hands of Douglas Lima in 2019 when the Brazilian caught him with an uppercut. Since then, Page has gone on to collect a 6-fight winning streak, 4 of those coming via stoppage. Page would also go on to exact his revenge when he edged out Douglas Lima at Bellator 267 via decision and propel himself into a title fight opportunity.

Michael Page Still Has Unfinished Business with Douglas Lima

Although it wasn’t the title Michael Page was interested in at first. Scott Coker revealed how the Englishmen wanted to complete his trilogy with Douglas Lima before taking that next step, however, he was able to convince him to do otherwise.

“I know MVP was kinda back-and-forth, do I want to fight Lima again, do I want to fight Amosov and then we said Hey, just go think about it,” Coker told MMA Junkie. “Our opinion as a company is you want to take the next step. You want to go fight for the belt now. This is your time. If you don’t do it now, when are you gonna do it? and then you can come back and fight Lima again in the future. So to me, it’s the right fight to put together. I think it’ll happen in the second quarter. It will be in London and it will be a massive fight over there because he’s such a big star.

“Believe me, a lot of people are saying well Amosov is so good and he’s – yeah he is that good and that’s why his record is undefeated. But MVP has a very unique style and he’s very hard to hit, to catch and it’s gonna be interesting to see how Amosov handles that because he’s fighting like a very awkward, karate style combatant and it’s not like your normal MMA fighter that’s just very straight forward, maybe a little bit more linear. He’s doing a lot of crazy stuff and that’s why people love him, but that fight will happen at some point in 2022 for sure.”

Do you think Michael Page will become a champion in 2022?

Anthony Johnson

There is still some time before we see Anthony Johnson return to a Bellator cage.

Johnson hasn’t competed since a come-from-behind second-round knockout win over Jose Augusto at Bellator 258 back in May. The victory moved him to the light heavyweight grand prix semifinals where he was set to face current champion Vadim Nemkov.

However, an undisclosed illness forced Johnson out of the fight with Nemkov defeating Julius Anglickas who stepped in as the alternate.

Johnson later revealed the following:

“Really wish I could go into detail about how ill I truly am. Just know I need as many prayers as I can get, and I’ll see you in 2022, God willing…Never been this afraid of anything in my life, but I’ve remained strong with the support of friends and family.

“Not asking for anything but prayers ?? See you in 2022 hopefully ??This is gonna be a battle, and I’m gonna have to dig deeper than I ever have before.Love you all #RumbleSquad NOT COVID”

Scott Coker: Anthony Johnson Has A Little Ways To Go

Unfortunately, it looks like “Rumble” will remain on the sidelines for a bit longer as Bellator MMA president Scott Coker provided an update on his return.

“I talked to him about a week ago and we had a very good conversation,” Coker told MMA Junkie. “Without getting too much into his medical condition, he’s got to worry just about being healthy first. Fighting will always be there. I told him to keep doing what he’s doing, keep listening to the doctors and keep at it. We’re going to be here, we’re not going anywhere. If you get cleared at some point, we’ll definitely have you back.

“I think he has a little ways to go, to be honest, and we’re going to be there rooting him on. But until he gets clearance – I don’t look at it like he’s going to be fighting in six months or four months or eight months. Let him take his time, let him get healthy and when he gets healthy we can have a conversation. If it’s a year from now, 18 months from now, or six months from now, we’ll get at it. But until then, he’s got to heal up and get healthy because there’s so much more in life than just fighting. I want him to have a long, healthy life and that’s the most important thing.”

Are you excited to see Anthony Johnson eventually return to action?

Bellator MMA president Scott Coker revealed he is currently in talks with Kayla Harrison.

Harrison is one of the hottest free agents on the market after her PFL contract recently expired. Many expected her to sign with the UFC and end up facing Amanda Nunes.

However, Julianna Pena may have scuppered those plans if they were in motion in the first place.

Regardless, the UFC is not the only promotion Harrison is talking to as Bellator is also currently in talks with the 155-pound star. But wherever she ends up, Coker believes it should be in either of the top two promotions in North America.

“We had a really good conversation with her – she’s a sweet girl,” Coker told MMA Junkie. “She is one hell of a fighter and I think really for her to take her career to the next level she’s got to come fight Cyborg or go to the UFC and fight Amanda Nunes or (Julianna) Peña. I think that’s gotta be the next step.

“We’re all still talking. Nothing’s signed. I think she’s still trying to vet the offers and see where she wants to go, but I’m not sure what she’s going to do. For me, it just seems natural that if you want to test yourself, you’re going to have to make a move.”

Scott Coker: Cris Cyborg A Big Step Up

If Harrison does choose to sign with Bellator, the obvious matchup is one with 145-pound queen Cris Cyborg.

It would certainly be an intriguing matchup and definitely a huge step up. In other words, it would quite simply be the toughest test of Harrison’s career.

“Cris Cyborg has been doing this for how long?” Coker said. “If you look at her body of work over the past 15 years, nobody has done more in this sport in the cage, fighting, than this girl. So let’s give her the proper credit that she’s due.”

Where do you want to see Kayla Harrison go next? And do you agree with Scott Coker?
