According to his manager Aaron Crecy, Henderson is expecting to return in the fall.

Despite claims by Fabricio Werdum’s manager that his client’s impending elbow surgery is not as severe as initially reported and that he’ll be willing and able to get back in action later this year, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker says a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko isn’t in the cards, at least not right now. Coker told Sherdog.com on Saturday that when he restarts negotiations about Fedor’s future with M-1 Global next week his short list of prospective opponents will include Alistair Overeem, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Sergei Kharitonov.
As for M-1’s insistence that Emelianenko be granted an immediate rematch with Werdum in the wake of the Brazilian’s stunning victory over Fedor late last month, well, the suddenly badass Coker doesn’t appear to give a damn about that.
“I just don’t think they’ll have a choice,” he told Loretta Hunt.

When Fabricio Werdum tapped out MMA deity Fedor Emelianenko on June 26th the foundations of the sport shook like it hasn’t in quite some time (other top-quake-contenders: Zuffa buying Pride? Randy Couture ‘retiring’ in 2007? Brock Lesnar being relatively civil after subbing Shane Carwin?) Not only did most people not see it coming, but it raised a ton of questions about Fedor’s immediate future.
Of course, it didn’t take long for both Fedor’s management (M-1) and Werdum himself, to talk about possibly doing an immediate rematch. Strikeforce’s Scott Coker didn’t seem to be too keen on that idea, and to the annoyance of some, talked about the possibility of doing Fedor / Overeem next. Well, according to a report from Super Lutas (thanks to MMA Mania for the translation), Werdum is considering undergoing surgery to repair an injured elbow he’s had for some time, stating “I might just get back next year.”
Next year? Looks like Coker should be able to green light Overeem / Fedor no problem now right? Not so fast. According to an updated report from BloodyElbow.com, the outlet contacted M-1’s Evgeni Kogani, who had this to say when asked about Werdum possibly going on the DL.
“(Werdum’s) gotta do what he’s gotta do. The re-match will be there, pre elbow surgery or post. That’s what the fans want and that’s what they will eventually get.”
When asked a follow up question about Fedor fighting Overeem, Kogani said they’d have to talk to their “partners”, with news on that coming “in a little while.” Soo… more drawn out negotiations to come or?

Strikeforce held a press conference yesterday at the Toyota Center in advance of its August 21 event that will take place at the venue in Houston, Texas. Ben and I were both unable to attend since, well, neither of us wanted to, but thankfully KBME Sports Talk 790 was on hand to catch what we may have missed.

It was just a couple of days ago that likely thousands of MMA fans did a re-read, while surveying a report from Sherdog, where Strikeforce boss man Scott Coker made the case that Fedor Emelianenko should fight the promotion’s champion Alistair Overeem next (alas, some staffers here at Fix needed to read it five times..). Yes, at first read it didn’t really sit well, Fedor loses to Fabricio Werdum but still gets a title shot? Has that ever happened bef…or right Brett Rogers. Now, to be fair, Coker didn’t outright shoot down Fedor’s request for an immediate rematch with Werdum, but with comments like “We just saw Fedor fight Werdum,” it didn’t sound like it was his first choice.
Well, MMA Fighting has an updated report out which helps make a lot more sense of Coker’s idea. According to the story, Strikeforce spokesperson Mike Afromowitz has confirmed to the outlet that the promotion is hoping to negotiate a champion’s clause with Fedor. Meaning, that if Fedor wins the belt, he cannot sign with another promotion. In other words, with one fight on his Strikeforce deal remaining, if Fedor were to beat Overeem he could not cruise to say another promotion, let’s just say for the hell of it, one that by chance uses the letters U.F.C. (like another champion, who let’s say has a name with the letters S.h.i.e.l.d.s., and didn’t have a champion’s clause).
So, as you can see, there’s some shrewd business tactics at work here by Coker- if Fedor beats Overeem, he has to stay; if he loses, his Strikeforce contract comes to an end having gone 1-2. Still seems a little off though no?

M-1 Global says it wants Fedor’s next fight to be a rematch with Fabricio Werdum, who beat Fedor on June 26.
