Garbrandt, O’Malley Both Deliver Huge KOs

Cody Garbrandt believes he delivered the most impressive knockout this past weekend.

Garbrandt shut the lights off on Raphael Assuncao with a buzzer-beating second round knockout in the co-main event of UFC 250. It followed another impressive knockout earlier in the fight after Sean O’Malley’s impressive first-round finish over former title challenger Eddie Wineland in the main card opener.

Many have since debated as to which one was the superior knockout. O’Malley clearly feels it was his.

Unsurprisingly, Garbrandt feels his was the superior one, especially considering the nature of it and level of opponent in comparison to O’Malley’s.

“Mine was way better. Way vicious, you know,” Garbrandt told TMZ. “My dude couldn’t get up. Stylistically, Assuncao is leap years ahead of any adversary that “Sugar” has ever fought. There’s no comparison, there’s no characteristic like that.

“Hats off to him. He did good, went out there and performed, got a knockout victory but you can’t compare when you’re fighting the top five in the world. He has never fought anybody in the top 15, so that’s a huge difference when you’re able to starch people like that at each level. The top 10 in our division is crazy. Dominick Cruz is ranked 12th, he’s one of the best so that’s how shark-filled our division is and I’m happy to lead the pack.”

Maybe all this talk of who had the better knockout will lead to a fight between the pair down the line.

Sean O’Malley Thinks Cody Garbrandt Will Avoid Him

The 25-year-old seems on the cusp of superstardom and ready to up his level of opposition against someone like Garbrandt who also scored a highlight reel KO at UFC 250. Despite wanting the fight ‘Suga’ is doubtful that Garbrandt would be willing to fight him because the former champion has nothing to gain from it, speaking to ESPN he said.

“There’s no way he takes that fight. There’s no way he takes that fight, it’s a lose-lose. One, he’s probably going to get knocked out and two he’s fighting someone who has a lot of hype. But, if he beats me people will say, ‘oh you [should have],’ so it’s a lose-lose for him I feel like. I’m sure they’d avoid that fight.”

O’Malley admits Garbrandt looked good during his knockout win over Raphael Assuncao this past weekend. Despite that he remains very confident about his chances against ‘No Love’ who he says will suffer another KO loss if they fight next.

“Yeah, absolutely, 100 percent. I feel like I’d knock Cody out. I mean, he looked more improved on Saturday. He looked like he was more calculated, more calm, he looked very much improved since getting knocked out three times,” O’Malley explained. “So, he did improve, he is high-level. He’s a very, very dangerous opponent and anyone that just throws bombs like that is dangerous. I feel like I’m calculated enough, accurate enough, and skilled enough to be able to knock him out. It’s a win-win fight for me.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)
