Orlando Sanchez addressed the viral video which flooded the internet earlier this week. For those out of the loop, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion had a falling out with UFC fighter Sean Strickland during a sparring session. Here, Strickland accused Sanchez of using a “dirty move” whilst wrestling. Whilst in a collar tie, Sanchez got what he referred to as a “quick little submission”, by using an unusual Mir Lock which resulted in Strickland screaming in what was a verbal tap.

At a Jiu Jitsu event just days later, Sanchez reflected on the issue and gave his side to the story. According to Sanchez, there was missing context from the video and viewers made assumptions about what went down. Wearing sunglasses and sporting cauliflower ears, he said “Man, it went viral for like three days. Millions of views over some dumb stuff. Firstly, everybody thinks this guy (Sean Strickland) was my training partner.

I’d never met him before in my life. I had no clue who he was, nothing. This guy just kept talking rubbish. He just kept running his mouth. He said he’d do some wrestling rounds, so the coach was like “Do a round with Orlando!” He started talking stupid stuff about Jiu Jitsu and goes “regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, I’m still going to beat you up”. It didn’t bother me but I was like is he talking to me?” (H/T:FloGrappling)

With this said, it turns out that Sanchez wasn’t actually involved in some form of camp with Strickland. Instead, he randomly happened to be at the same gym as him. Not only this but there was definitely an element of trash talk from Strickland before sparring, according to Sanchez. As it happens, Sanchez is no stranger to MMA and has a 5-0 record as well as being a black belt in BJJ.

He also added, “I didn’t know he had a fight…nothing. He’s not my training partner, he was some guy saying he was going to beat my ass. It was nothing to hurt him, those that know me know I wouldn’t intentionally hurt a training partner. It’s not a dirty move, if you’re cranking it all the way up and not letting go then ok. I knew how far I pushed it, it went about two inches to wake him up and he had his reaction, but literally right after the video he apologized. I don’t hold anything though. People were making fake accounts, saying they wanted to kill my mom and wild stuff. It’s all good, it’s all love. You can’t expect to say “I’m going to beat you up” and not expect anything.” I got hundreds of messages saying he’s a bully and goes round beating people up.”

Of course, these are the words of Orlando Sanchez and Sean Strickland will possibly see things differently. Whether he comments on the matter is still unknown. However, what is known is that Strickland will face Uriah Hall on the 31st of July as the main event. By then, his arm should have healed and he will be looking to improve on his impressive 23-3 MMA record.

In the blink of an eye, Sean Strickland went from grappling to all-out fighting during a recent training session.

Strickland is preparing for his upcoming fight against Uriah Hall later this summer. Facing a dynamic striker in Hall, Strickland recognized that honing his grappling skills will be critical if he wants to defeat Hall. But a recent grappling training session at Team RVCA gym in Costa Mesa didn’t go as planned.

While working on his grappling with Abu Dhabi Combat Club champion Orlando Sanchez, Strickland allowed Sanchez to get a hold of his arm while the two were battling for underhooks. Sanchez then applied a standing armbar on Strickland’s arm, and Strickland lost it.

Strickland immediately broke the grip, firing a back-fist at Sanchez, catching him caught off guard with the shot. Strickland then followed up with a kick to the body. YouTube user Just DeWitte uploaded a video of the incident. In the video, you can see the entire exchange, as well as Strickland cursing at Sanchez. (H/T Bloody Elbow)

“Oh you motherf*cker! What the f*ck?!” yelled Strickland. “Why bro? Why? Why? Get away from me. Get away. Bro, what the f*ck man? Why dude?”

Sanchez was genuinely surprised by Strickland’s reaction, asking Strickland what he’d supposedly done wrong. Strickland then yells that “you f*cking know what you did.”

Sanchez retorts that he was going for a standing armbar, a move that would seem acceptable in a grappling session. Strickland, however, disagreed, calling it a “d*ck move.”

“How the f*ck is it a d*ck move, it’s grappling?!” cried Sanchez.

“I’ve got a f*cking fight coming up dude and you’re trying to hyper-extend my arm,” replied Strickland. “Let’s be honest… that’s dirty bro, we all know that’s dirty,” he added.

After tempers had cooled a bit, the two tried to resume grappling, but Strickland was over it, ending the session early.

Strickland would later post a clip of the video to his Instagram account, citing that both men were over the dispute.

Uriah Hall faces another tough challenge, as he will share the octagon with Sean Strickland at UFC 265.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has reported that sources have confirmed the match between Hall (#8) and Strickland (#12) is close to finalized. The matchup is only the fourth fight currently confirmed for the card in which Amanda Nunes vs. Juliana Peña will likely serve as the main event.

Hall (17-9-0) is coming off a win over Chris Wiedman in a fight that saw Wiedman break his leg in the same way Silva had broken his years past. Hall made it clear that he wanted to get back into the octagon as soon as possible, though he was shaken up after the victory. The elite striker is riding a four-fight win streak with wins over Weidman and a TKO of Anderson Silva after multiple fight cancellations against Yoel Romero and Jacaré Souza. Working his way to a title shot, Hall has been vocal that the current middleweight king, Israel Adesanya, is avoiding him and others.

Strickland (23-3-0) also comes into the fight on a four-fight win streak. He recently defeated Krzysztof Jotko. With notable victories over Nordine Taleb and Brendan Allen, Strickland is no stranger to facing elite strikers. This fight allows him the opportunity to meet his first top ten opponent in the octagon since 2017. Strickland will likely try to capitalize on the opportunity, increasing his standing in the rankings.

Many of the details for UFC 265 are still in the air. The promotion has yet to name a venue and location for the event. The UFC is also yet to call the official main event and co-main event for the event. Still, the addition of this matchup in the middleweight division is sure to add some fireworks to the event.
