UFC middleweight Chris Curtis has promised to go strike for strike with Paulo Costa should the Brazilian accept his callout post-Sean Strickland loss.

Curtis recently returned to training after recovering from the hamstring tear he sustained last time out, and he’s after a big-name fight this fall.

Prior to suffering the severe injury in the closing moments against Brendan Allen, the pair’s rematch in a UFC Fight Night main event at the Apex this past April was competitive and among the best bouts of the year thus far.

Always looking to put on a show, “The Action Man” is hoping to replicate that barnburner in his next fight, and he has just the opponent in mind…

Curtis Reiterates Costa Callout, Promises Barnburner After Strickland Snoozer

During a recent appearance on MMA Junkie Radio, Curtis reiterated his desire to fight former title challenger Paulo Costa.

“Borrachinha’s” stock took a hit at UFC 302 last month when he fell short in a lackluster five-round affair with Curtis’ teammate, ex-champ Sean Strickland.

Should Costa accept a clash in the cage with Strickland’s fellow Xtreme Couture standout, however, he can seemingly expect a dancing partner ready and willing to throw down in the middle of the Octagon.

“I cornered Sean that fight. When he took that fight…I literally went back, watched all of the Costa fights, and I had like a freakin’ four-page bulletin report on what to do…everything that Costa does, when he does it, why I think he does it,” Curtis said. “I just think it’s a fight that I match up well with.

“Costa’s usually a really fun guy to watch but the Strickland fight was just weird for him because Sean’s a weird guy to fight,” Curtis continued. “I think me and Costa, I think we can just sit there and beat on each other until somebody falls, and I’m okay with that. Sean doesn’t want to fight that way. He’s not trying to get his head bust in. I will gladly stand in front of you and we will just swing at each other.”

Curtis initially shared his interest in keeping Xtreme Couture’s eyes locked on Costa the day after the UFC 302 event in Newark. “The Action Man” respectfully offered to throw down with the Brazilian after sympathizing with his struggles against Strickland.

Sean Strickland claims UFC will deny him title fight they don't want me holding the microphone

Sean Strickland thinks he may not get the next middleweight title shot.

After Strickland beat Paulo Costa at UFC 302 in June, he said his next fight would be for the middleweight title. The title is up for grabs at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia as Dricus Du Plessis takes on Israel Adesanya. After that, both Strickland and Robert Whittaker have a case for the title shot, but Strickland thinks if he doesn’t get the title shot it is because they don’t want him on the mic as the champion again.

Sean Strickland calls for UFC to become American again we're gonna be watching Dagestanis or Brazilians

“If they give Robert (Whittaker) the title shot, it’s for one reason, it’s for one reason. They don’t want me holding this (microphone) on the main stage,” Sean Strickland said to Shak MMA. “I’m next in line, dude, there’s no argument in it, it is a f****** fact if they give Whittaker the title shot then welcome to f****** Bud Light.”

Both Strickland and Whittaker are former champions and do have a case for a title shot. So, whoever doesn’t get it will feel like they got robbed of the title shot. But, Strickland thinks the only reason why he won’t get it is because of what he says on the mic.

Sean Strickland Explains Why Robert Whittaker Shouldn’t Get The Next Title Shot

With Sean Strickland and Robert Whittaker both having a case for a title shot, the American took to social media to share why he felt like ‘The Reaper’ shouldn’t be in the running for it.

Although Whittaker is on a two-fight winning streak, Strickland says that Whittaker is 0-3 against Adesanya and Du Plessis, so he shouldn’t get the chance to fight whoever wins next.

“The thought that whittaker gets a title shot before me is fucking wild.. Bro you’re 0-3…… With a stoppage lol I beat both those c***s lol….. Do rankings matter?! Do the right thing UFC..,” Strickland wrote in a tweet on July 9.

Both Strickland and Whittaker are adamant they each deserve a title shot so it will be interesting to see who ends up getting it.

It’s rare that a week goes by where Sean Strickland isn’t starting up a new beef with someone via social media.

Whether he’s trading words with someone online or causing controversy by sparring someone that is not skilled enough to be in there with him, the former UFC middleweight champion is always producing talking points.

His latest public feud has been with public speaker and athlete David Goggins, due to comments that Strickland made about Goggins’ military career.

Goggins went as far as to challenge the 185-pound contender to three days of spending a training camp with him in exchange for three sparring rounds in boxing.

One fellow member of the roster is tired of Strickland’s antics and believes that he is only doing this to make himself heard – since he isn’t the champion anymore.

Belal Muhammad Says Sean Strickland Is Chasing Clout After Losing UFC Title

Belal Muhammad spoke in a recent interview with The Schmo about his thoughts on Strickland’s recent beef with Goggins.

The number one welterweight contender has never seen eye-to-eye with the often unfiltered former champion and this is no different.

Muhammad, who is set to challenge Leon Edwards for the title at UFC 304 later this month, is very much over what he sees as Strickland’s attempts to grab more attention.

He also dared Strickland to take Goggins up on his offer in order to really put his money where his mouth is.

“I wouldn’t call it a [real] beef. That’s what Sean is right? He’s a troll. Nobody cares what he says anymore because he doesn’t have the belt anymore. so now he’s just starting to attack these other guys with bigger followings and things like that, just to get attention.

“I knew what he was from the beginning, he’s fake. He’s not this tough guy that he says he is or this crazy guy that he says he is. He’s just doing stuff for clout and if he’s a man, challenge David Goggins dude… David Goggins’ workout, let’s see if you push through. Let’s see how big your heart is.”

Last week, Strickland found himself in a war of words with ex-Navy SEAL David Goggins. The fitness guru and ultramarathon runner issued a challenge to the former UFC middleweight champion — three days of training for three rounds of sparring.

It sounded like a solid deal, especially after all the trash Strickland had talked about Navy SEALs not being able to hang with him in the gym. However, ‘Tarzan’ backed down pretty quickly, apologizing to Goggins and explaining that he was just “bored and angry” while waiting around for his next UFC title shot.

On the other hand, top-ranked welterweight contender Belal Muhammad believes Strickland showed the world exactly who he is by tucking his tail and running.

“I wouldn’t call it a beef. That’s what Sean is, right? He’s a troll,” Muhammad told The Schmo. “Nobody cares what he says anymore because he doesn’t have the belt anymore. Belal Muhammad closes in on first UFC title fight

Muhammad will attempt to cash in on his first UFC title fight on July 27 when he heads to Manchester for a main event matchup with reigning welterweight world champion Leon Edwards. The fight has been a long time coming for ‘Remember The Name’ who is sitting on a nine-fight win streak, his last victory coming against Gilbert Burns all the way back in May 2023.

In December, ‘Rocky’ successfully defended his title for the second time with a decisive decision victory over Colby Covington at UFC 296.

Edwards and Muhammad previously met at a Fight Night event in 2021, but the bout came to an end 18 seconds into the second round when Edwards inadvertently poked ‘Bully B’ in the eye. With him unable to continue, the fight was declared a no-contest.

More than three years later, they’ll run it back in the UFC 304 headliner with the 170-pound crown hanging in the balance.

Ex-UFC champion Sean Strickland backs down, apologizes to David Goggins: 'I’m just bored and angry'

Sean Strickland is backing down from his fiery feud with David Goggins.

After the former UFC middleweight champion made some disparaging remarks about the U.S. Navy SEALs, Goggins, a former member of the elite military unit, offered a challenge to Strickland — three days of training in exchange for three rounds of boxing.

The two spent the next few days snapping back at one another on social media with Goggins laying down an ultimatum in his last video message.

In an interesting twist, Strickland issued an apology to Goggins, noting that his online attack on the ultramarathon runner came about because he was “bored and angry” while sitting on the sidelines waiting for his next shot at gold inside the Octagon.

“Ok fine… I’m sorry Goggins you’re cool I’m just bored and angry… You can show up but if not it’s cool man you’re a solid runner, you have some cool quotes… My mental stability is coming back lol,” Strickland wrote on Instagram.

“Hey guys, if I had to be completely honest I think I’m just bored and angry,” Strickland says in the video. “I’m the number one contender, I got to wait for Izzy [Adesanya] and Dricus [Du Plessis] to get my shot. What does one do? I’m bored and angry. I’m training, I’m in shape, but what does one do? I’m just bored and angry.”

Strickland echoed a similar sentiment on X.

“Alright you guys I’m done making fun of Goggins, I trained, I feel good,” Strickland wrote. “Clarity I have to wait for Dricus and Izzy to fight.. I’m on the bench I’m just bored and angry and hurting people makes me feel good inside lol.. You’re cool goggins… keep on jogging my man….”

Perhaps we’ll still see Strickland and Goggins meet up at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas someday, but for now, it appears as though both men are content to go their separate ways.

Sean Strickland is Chomping at the bit for his next UFC Title opportunity

Though no official announcements have been made, Sean Strickland should be the next man in line for a shot at the middleweight strap, just as soon as reigning champion Dricus Du Plessis handles some business with former two-time titleholder.

The two will tussle at UFC 305 on August 17 when the promotion heads back to Perth, Australia. There, Du Plessis will put his title on the line for the first time since securing a somewhat controversial split decision victory over Strickland at UFC 297 in January.

Sean Strickland vs. Du Plessis

With Strickland bouncing back against Paulo Costa in June, ‘Tarzan’ re-established himself as the top-ranked contender in the division and is banking on challenging the winner of next month’s main event in The Land Down Under.
