'Looked Like a Good Old Friday Night': Dricus du Plessis Brushes Off Dana White's Call to Press Charges on Sean Strickland

Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis were involved in a chaotic brawl in the audience during a UFC event last year. The altercation, which saw Strickland leap over seats to attack Du Plessis, has drawn widespread attention. First, they met in the audience, then a fight for the middleweight title, now at UFC 312, they are meeting once again.

Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis Clash in Audience Brawl

The incident unfolded when Strickland, seated two rows ahead of Dricus du Plessis, turned to mock his rival before physically attacking him. The melee was quickly broken up by security and police, but not before it left onlookers stunned. UFC President Dana White later admitted responsibility for seating the fighters too close to each other, calling it a “mistake” and stating, “This is the fight business; things like this happen.”

In a recent interview, Du Plessis revealed that both Dana White and UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell approached him after the incident, urging him to press charges against Strickland. However, the South African fighter dismissed the suggestion. Speaking on the OverDog podcast, he explained:

“Dana and Hunter actually came to where we were seated, and there was police and security around us and they were like ‘that was assault, 100% you have the right to press charges now against Sean Strickland’. Me being from South Africa I was like ‘what? come on’. That looked like a good old Friday night [to me].”

The brawl has added fuel to an already fiery rivalry between the two fighters. Strickland has been vocal about his disdain for Du Plessis, while Du Plessis has criticized Strickland’s emotional instability. Both fighters have promised an all-out war when they step into the Octagon at UFC 312 in Sydney.

"Crybaby" - UFC Star Khamzat Chimaev Rips Sean Strickland in Brutal Callout

Khamzat Chimaev is back at it, slamming the UFC 312 title challenger Sean Strickland in another vicious callout.

The clip, which you can see below, begins with Chimaev dubbing Strickland a “crybaby” before cutting to a video of the former middleweight champion’s appearance on This Past Weekend with Theo Von last year. Strickland became notably upset and shed a few tears while looking back on his traumatic childhood.

The video then quickly shifts to a video of ‘Borz’ laughing followed by a clip from the film Higher Learning. In the selected scene, a white supremacist character played by Michael Rapaport destroys his room following a run-in with a group of black students.

It’s unclear if Chimaev chose that particular clip in reference to Strickland’s often controversial political views or if it was simply Rapaport’s likeness to ‘Tarzan’ that prompted him to go in that direction.

Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev continue to wage war online ahead of Saturday’s middleweight headliner

It’s certainly not the first time Chimaev has taken aim at Strickland. Hell, it’s not the first time this week. On Wednesday, the undefeated Chechen monster called out Strickland, asking him why he’s “crying all the time” and referring to the contentious relationship Strickland has with his father.

Strickland was quick to respond, calling out Chimaev for his link to Chechen dictator Ramazan Kadyrov.

“Just got done training, mind is clear,” Strickland wrote on X. “I’m gonna lay off of Chimeav chechen thing. I’m very aware that his family is probably in danger and he probably regrets that relationship.. So I’m going to attempt to not go there. Have a good day. Here’s to trying. Still is bit coin scams?

Strickland will look to reclaim the middleweight championship on Saturday when he runs it back with the division’s reigning and defending titleholder, Dricus Du Plessis. Their UFC 312 headliner will serve as a rematch between the two after ‘DDP’ came out on top the first time around in January 2024.

For the first time in 2025, the Octagon is Down Under, with the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia playing host to the promotion’s latest pay-per-view event. And for its trip across the globe, the mixed martial arts leader has brought with it two championship contests.

Beforehand, another champ will be in action as strawweight queen Zhang Weili gets her campaign for the new year underway. To extend her second reign beyond its third title defense, the Chinese standout is tasked with blemishing the currently perfect record of challenger Tatiana Suarez.

Sean Strickland Shuts Down Staph Rumors: "I Give Staph, I Don’t Get Staph!"

Sean Strickland doesn’t get staph, he gives it.

Ahead of Strickland’s return to the Octagon for a rematch with reigning middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312 in Australia, fight fans became concerned that the main event showdown could be in jeopardy after spotting what appeared to be an infection on the former titleholder’s left arm.

gettyimages 2197921265 612x612 1

Asked point blank if he had an infection during Thursday’s pre-fight press conference in Sydney, Strickland denied the reports and did so in the most Strickland-esque way possible.

“I’m immune to staph. You see this f*cking mustache? I give staph—I don’t f*cking get staph. Calm the f*ck down. I don’t get sick, I don’t get f*cking injured, and I don’t get f*cking staph. So relax. I’m going to be out there on Sunday, and I’m going to come out f*cking hard and strong. The hardest and strongest you’ve ever f*ckin’ seen. To the f*cking death, Dutchman!”

Staph Infections can seriously impact a fighter’s ability to perform

While these types of infections are fairly common among UFC fighters, they can have a serious impact on performance. Just ask Kevin Lee.

In extreme cases, staph infections can lead to blood poisoning and toxic shock syndrome though most cases are resolved with a round of antibiotics. However, middleweight contender Brendan Allen was hit with an especially rough case a couple of months back and shared some gruesome pics on Instagram of his arm oozing blood while laid up in a hospital bed.

Fortunately, ‘All In’ appears to be doing just fine and is currently scheduled to return to the Octagon on February 22 for a clash with Anthony Hernandez.
