After a tough split-decision loss to Sean Strickland, Jack Hermansson has taken to social media and addressed the situation with a poem.

“I’m sorry fans, about tonight, I had a bad performance, and I lost the fight. It wasn’t pretty, or technically sound. I couldn’t get the bastard to the ground. Sorry Sean this one went to a decision. Best of luck to murder your next competition.”

Strickland responded respectfully, saying: “Thank you man it was an honor. I hope we meet again! True warrior…”

Jack Hermansson In Trouble, and What’s Next for Strickland?

Jack Hermansson (22-7, 9-5 UFC) had a tough outing at UFC Vegas 47. He couldn’t implement his grappling game effectively and struggled with Strickland’s standup. The fight was slower-paced for the majority of it but the last few rounds heated up and it ended with a crescendo as Hermansson and Strickland resulted in slugging it out before time expired.

With this loss, “The Joker” is now 2-3 in his last five fights. This puts him in a rocky situation. While he is facing the best of the best in his division, the UFC has shown before that they are ruthless with the chopping block. It’s unknown who he faces next but names like Paulo Costa or even a Kelvin Gastelum rematch could potentially make sense.

Sean Strickland (25-3, 12-3 UFC) is now riding a six-fight win streak, and his first shot at a UFC title looks to be drawing near. This fight didn’t end spectacularly and was a bit lackluster to some so the general opinion so far is “Tarzan” has at least one more win to garner before he truly “deserves” the shot. He has gone on record to say he is close to Marvin Vettori (who’s ahead of him in the rankings) so a fight with him most likely wouldn’t happen, unless there was a lot of money involved.

Even though he got his hand raised at UFC 47 last night, Sean Strickland did not live up to his own standards of bloodshed and violence, and he’s putting a portion of the blame on some fancypants folks in suits.

Sure, Sean Strickland was able to pick up his sixth consecutive victory, which at this level is always something to be proud of. However, Strickland didn’t feel much like celebrating after defeating Jack Hermansson in the UFC Vegas 47 main event.

This is due to his game plan of taking Hermansson’s soul and leaving him bloody not coming to fruition. Instead, MMA’s verbal wildman played it safe and conservative in the cage, fighting like a “pussy” as he described it in his Octagon interview.

Although Strickland did not shy away from taking the lion’s share of the blame for what he considered to be an underwhelming victory, he also thinks the pressure from outside sources played a role in his performance. Specifically, he cited anonymous folks in suits who got in his head.

“I mean, none of you guys wear suits, so I can’t say this to you guys. You guys all look like common folk,” Strickland said when addressing reporters in the post-fight press conference. “But I get a lot of fancy fuckers who wear suits, and they come up to me and they start talking about title fights and things of that nature. You hear that all the time and you start thinking, ‘Do I really want to risk getting knocked out when I could go for a title fight?’ So I let the fancy folk in the suits throw me off a little bit, but it won’t happen again.”

Strickland’s description of events sounds like something straight out of a Men in Black movie, with one of the suits flashing the neuralyzer in Strickland’s face, prompting him to forget his gory ways.

In any event, a W is a W, and it can’t be denied that “Tarzan” is now one step closer to a title shot and an opportunity at a bloody redemption in front of an even wider audience.

Sean Strickland Explains Why He Doesn’t Want Marvin Vettori Fight

Sean Strickland announced himself as a true player at middleweight by putting on a dominant display to beat Jack Hermansson over five rounds at UFC Vegas 47.

The 30-year-old doesn’t seem to have done enough to earn a shot at the middleweight title which will be on the line when Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker rematch at UFC 271 next weekend. The winner of Jared Cannonier vs. Derek Brunson will most likely get the next shot at the 185lb strap.

So, talk now turns to who Strickland should face next. A fight with #2 ranked Marvin Vettori is certainly one that would appeal to the fans but it doesn’t appeal to Strickland who explained why during the UFC Vegas 47 post-fight press conference.

“Marvin Vettori, he’s a good buddy of mine,” Strickland said. “I actually helped him train for (Paulo) Costa and Jack (Hermansson). So, I was his main training partner. That’s a fight I wouldn’t want to fight.

Strickland explained that he was offered a ton of money to fight Vettori on short notice when Paulo Costa came in severely overweight for their fight at UFC Vegas 41.

“When Costa drank too much wine and cookies, they offered me a lot of money to take his fight (against Vettori) on a days’ notice,” Strickland claimed. “I called Marvin and I was like, ‘Marvin, they’re offering me a lot of f*cking money. Like, I have to say yes.’ Marvin being a good friend, he was like, ‘Dude, yes. I can’t blame you for saying yes.’ So, (in) that situation I said yes but if it’s just for what I’m making I would rather bow my head. I’ll let Marvin get another title shot before I fight him.”

Sean Strickland was quick to apologize for his UFC Vegas 47 performance despite the fact he put on a dominant display to beat top contender Jack Hermansson in the main event of the evening.

Strickland jabbed his opponent’s face off for the vast majority of the 25-minute fight and ultimately walked away with the decision victory.

During his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, Strickland was eager to say sorry after being involved in what he believed was a dull fight.

“I fought like a pussy you can say it! I’m sorry guys,” Strickland said before ‘The Count’ even got his first question out.

“I was being a pansy. I should’ve stayed in the pocked and thrown, like I did at the end. Maybe I let the pressure get to me. Again, dude, I’m sorry. I was kind of fighting like a b*tch right there – excuse me.

“I think I just let the win bonus get the best of me,” Strickland added. I fought like a chump that fight. I should’ve stayed in the pocket and thrown more but lesson learned, it won’t happen again.

Sean Strickland Wants A Title Shot

At the UFC Vegas 47 post-fight press conference, Strickland expressed his desire to fight for the middleweight title but admitted Jared Cannonier might get a shot before him.

“At the end of the day, if f*cking ‘Izzy’ wins, unless (Jared) Cannonier wins, he’s ran through the division. Come on, let’s get some fresh blood in. We don’t want to see another repeat. Let’s have one white trash motherf*cker take a crack at it.”

Israel Adesanya is set to defend his 185lb strap against Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 on February 12. On the undercard, Jared Cannonier takes on Derek Brunson in what appears to be a number one contender fight.

Sean Strickland feels he’s done enough for a matchup with Israel Adesanya, but will understand if he needs one more win at middleweight.

Strickland used his boxing and torrid pace to outlast Jack Hermansson at UFC Vegas 47. Hermansson couldn’t get Strickland to the ground and Strickland was able to outclass him on the feet.

Strickland is in an interesting position in the middleweight title picture. While he’s undefeated since moving from welterweight to middleweight, he arguably didn’t put on enough of a show-stopping performance to earn the next title shot.

Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier will fight on the UFC 271 main card, while Adesanya will face Robert Whittaker in a title rematch. Depending on how things play out, the winner of those two matchups could fight against one another next.

During his UFC Vegas 47 post-fight press conference, Strickland kept things in perspective as he moves closer to a shot at the belt.

Sean Strickland Makes Case For Next Title Shot

“At the end of the day, if f**king Izzy wins, if Cannonier wins, then Cannonier’s probably next,” Strickland said. “But he’s already ran through the division, let’s get some fresh blood in there. We don’t want to see another repeat. Let’s see a white trash motherf**ker get a crack at it.”

With the win over Hermansson, Strickland has now won six straight since moving back to 185 pounds. He’s earned knockout wins over Brendan Allen and Nordine Taleb while outpassing fighters such as Uriah Hall and Krzysztof Jotko.

One thing that Strickland does have going for him moving forward is his ability to market himself and his fights. This could be a welcomed opponent as Adesanya or Whittaker get ready to make their next title defense following UFC 271.

It’s unclear what’s next for Strickland, but he’s clearly the dark horse of the middleweight title picture and could get a No. 1 title contender fight next, at the worst.

Count it six straight victories for the #7 ranked UFC middleweight contender, Sean Strickland, who outpoints Jack Hermansson over the course of five rounds for an admittedly dubious split decision (49-46, 47-48, 49-46) victory in the main event of UFC Vegas 47.

Adding Swedish-born contender, Hermansson to a list of victims at middleweight including the likes of Uriah Hall, Brendan Allen, and Jack Marshman, Strickland managed to successfully defend no less than seven takedown attempts over the course of the five round headliner.

Utilizing an ever-present jab which really made waves last July against the above mentioned, Hall, Strickland, a staple of Xtreme Couture under Eric Nicksick in ‘Sin City’ — managed to evade a lot of winging and misfiring efforts from Hermansson from the second round onwards, largely comfortably outstriking the former Cage Warriors champion.

Following his victory, Strickland who is set to leapfrog Hermansson into the #6 rank at middleweight at least, called for a middleweight title opportunity against the victor of next weekend’s UFC 271 headliner between champion, Israel Adesanya, and former champion, Robert Whittaker.
