Sean Strickland, Francis Ngannou

Say what you will about UFC middleweight Sean Strickland, but it’s undeniable that he wants to be the best and train against the best in the sport.

Strickland is set to face Jack Hermansson in his second-straight UFC main event next month. Last year, he defeated Urijah Hall in an impressive victory. Strickland was then scheduled to face former champion, Luke Rockhold before Rockhold pulled out due to an injury ahead of UFC 268.

Strickland is as competitive as they get in the sport, even against his teammates such as UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Strickland’s coach, Eric Nicksick revealed what it’s like to have him competing in the gym.

“That dude will literally spar anybody in our gym,” Nicksick said of Strickland. “He calls Francis out every sparring session. He loves to spar Francis because he goes ‘I want to feel as close to death as possible and I want to have that fear of God in my heart every time I spar a guy like Francis Ngannou.’ So sure, we throw him in there and let him get some rounds with Francis.”

“You want to have competition in the training room. Now Sean’s delivery is never the best. He doesn’t deliver things nicely to people, but when you boil things down, the way Sean talks to his teammates or some of the people in the room, it’s really because he cares and he wants to get the best out of you.”

Sean Strickland Is No Stranger To Controversy

Despite Strickland’s confidence and work ethic, he’s turned off some UFC fans due to his brash personality and tendency to take things over the line on social media. During a recent Twitter rant, Strickland alluded that if he were to have a homosexual son, he would feel he had failed as a father.

This caused quite the stir on social media and had many calling for the UFC to step in and dish out some sort of penalty for his comments.

Regardless of his actions outside of the cage, there’s no question that Strickland is right in the thick of things in the middleweight division. If he’s able to earn another impressive win over Hermansson, he could earn a title shot sooner rather than later.

Sean Strickland is known for his striking and boxing inside the UFC Octagon, but he isn’t a fan of boxing as a sport.

Strickland is known for speaking his mind on whatever topic comes up, and on Twitter on Wednesday, he spoke about why he doesn’t like boxing. He says he can go months in MMA in training and take zero brain damage, but as he is about to spar boxing for 25 minutes, he will receive a ton of brain damage.

“Let me tell you why I absolutely hate boxing. I can go months with mma and take ZERO brain damage. I’m about to box for 25 minutes and even if I dominate I’m going to receive some brain damage. Absolutely retarded sport…,” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

Although Strickland believes he takes more brain damage in boxing, he does take some in MMA as well. No matter what sport, you are getting punched in the head in both, but perhaps Strickland believes he is hit more in the head in boxing, as in MMA, you can grapple and throw kicks to the leg and body. The good news for Strickland is he is in MMA and doesn’t have to do boxing if he doesn’t want to and can just focus on MMA striking.

Sean Strickland (24-3) is currently ranked #7 at middleweight and is set to headline a Fight Night card on February 5 against Jack Hermansson. He’s coming off a lopsided decision win over Uriah Hall, and should he beat ‘The Joker,’ he could very well be closing in on a title shot.

Since coming back from a motorcycle accident, Strickland is 4-0, which also included a move to middleweight. Since coming back, he beat Jack Marshman by decision, TKO’d Brendan Allen, and holds decision victories over Krzysztof Jotko and Uriah Hall in his first UFC main event.

Sean Strickland has revealed that Tony Ferguson was once knocked out by Raymond Daniels in sparring after complaining about kickboxing sensation pulling his shots.

On Tuesday, Strickland was interacting with his fans on social media when the conversation took a turn to who the UFC middleweight has enjoyed sparring sessions with.

Strickland revealed that he had once sparred Sage Northcutt whose mother was on hand to look after her son after he angrily stormed out of the gym.

“I sparred sage once… lol he stormed off the mat and it was followed by his mom saying “should I go talk to him” 1. Why the fuck is your mom here. 2. No he’s a grown as man let him go act like a female alone lol,” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

A fan then asked if Strickland had ever had the pleasure of sparring with ‘El Cucuy’.

“Yeah he’s a cunt lol! Raymond Daniel’s pulled a head kick once and Tony got mad about it because he didn’t throw it hard so the next kick he knocked Tony out,” Strickland replied.

What’s Next For Sean Strickland & Tony Ferguson?

Strickland has been in fine form since jumping up to middleweight. The 30-year-old has won five straight fights, most recently beating Uriah Hall via unanimous decision to secure his place in the 185lb top 10. He’ll face off against #6 ranked Jack Hermansson on February 5.

In contrast, Ferguson has lost three fights on the spin and seems to be way past his prime at this point. The former interim lightweight champion has been angling for a fight as of late and according to Dana White, he has an opponent, although it’s yet to be revealed who that is.

Do you think Sean Strickland should’ve kept the Raymond Daniels – Tony Ferguson sparring story private?

UFC middleweight Sean Strickland is back in the headlines after a recent controversial tweet about the topic of homosexuality.

Strickland is scheduled to return to the UFC octagon on Feb. 6 against Jack Hermansson, in a pivotal middleweight matchup. He was originally slated to face former middleweight champ, Luke Rockhold, earlier this year before Rockhold pulled out due to an injury.

While Strickland has impressed the masses with his skills inside the octagon during his five-fight winning streak, he’s rubbed some fans the wrong way with his controversial actions outside of it. During a recent tweet, Strickland answered a fan’s question about how he would react if he found out his son was a homosexual.

“If I had a gay son I would think I failed as a man to create such weakness,” Strickland said. “If I had a whore for a daughter, I’d think she just wanted to be like her Dad.”

Sean Strickland Continues To Raise Eyebrows

This isn’t the first time that Strickland has had something controversial to say. After his latest win over Uriah Hall, he alluded to his desire to kill someone in the cage and that committing murder in an MMA fight wouldn’t concern him.

Strickland also recently was involved in a road rage incident which he shared on his Instagram, in which he threatened a nearby driver and challenged him to a fight.

Despite his controversial antics, Strickland remains one of the brightest prospects at 185 pounds. He’s won five fights in a row over the likes of Hall, Brendan Allen, and Krzysztof Jotko. If he’s able to get past Hermansson, there’s a good chance he would emerge in the title shot discussion.

Strickland is never afraid to speak his mind, but his approach to social media has divided fans and critics of his unlike most athletes today.

Sean Strickland has turned in his unfiltered remark for the day, this time the controversial middleweight addressed the topic of homosexuality.

Strickland has made headlines on several occasions throughout the course of 2021. In June, a heated altercation with a training partner was captured on video. His words then began to attract attention as well when, in the same week as the aforementioned incident, he threatened to smack his trolls in front of their children.

Two months later, he became an advocate for pornography and masturbation as a tool to strengthen one’s jab.

However, it wasn’t until he expressed a desire to be the first fighter to kill a man inside the Octagon that he became a controversial figure and his comments began to carry some degree of seriousness.

Since then, he’s spoken out against trans-fighter Alana McLaughlin, recorded a quasi-road-rage incident, and even opened up about his Neo-Nazi childhood background. Whatever you make of Strickland, he has no doubt become arguably the most untempered fighter on the UFC roster.

That being said, the following tweet from Strickland may or may not come as a surprise when responding to a fan’s colorful question about whether the welterweight would rather have a homosexual son or a promiscuous daughter.

“If I had a gay son I would think I failed as a man to create such weakness….. If I had a whore for a daughter I’d think she just wanted to be like her dad lol!”

He also offered these follow-up remarks moments later.

“LISTEN gay men are great, i support them and their choices. freedom! Gay guys have it made. Most gay guys I know are always happy. They all just get to hang with buddies all day and have sex.. us straight men, we’re fucked… we gotta do some serious work to get laid. Not fair”

It is unclear if Strickland was merely offering some of his eccentric humor or if he was being earnest with these remarks. There are two things that are for certain, however. Many people will consider his words, especially the initial tweet, to be homophobic in any context. Meanwhile, many others will consider that interpretation to be an example of “cancel culture.”

In any event, when he’s not chopping it up with Twitter followers in questionable Q&A sessions, Strickland is always in the gym, readying for his next battle. His first bout in 2022 is slated to be against Jack Hermansson on February 5.

Sean Strickland’s stance on fighters using performance-enhancing drugs is pretty clear, ban them for life. Strickland took special aim at both Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya, especially Jones who has a history of this as well as failed drug tests.

The UFC middleweight Contender even said that Jones’ legacy is now obsolete because of his usage of banned substances.

Strickland spoke to Helen Yee in a recent interview to discuss the impact banned substances can have.

“I think Jon Jones could’ve been the greatest fighter to ever walk in the UFC. I mean I grew up watching Jon Jones but after he got popped it’s clear that he was juiced. I don’t think he should ever be allowed to fight again; I think his legacy is gone, I think everything he’s ever done in the UFC should be replaced because again if you’re cheating and you’re getting an advantage how do you hold a legacy you know when you didn’t do it on even playing field.”

Sean Strickland accuses Israel Adesanya of cheating

Strickland then turned his attention to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya as rumours had also previously circulated around ‘Stylebender’ in the build-up to his grudge match with Paulo Costa.

“I just think that if you get popped for steroids, lifetime f**king ban. And again, if it’s a tainted supplement, I get that but if you’re juiced like f**king Izzy [Israel Adesanya], Jon Jones it should be a hands down lifetime ban.” (Transcribed by sportskeeda.com)

Israel Adesanya was cleared of any potential wrongdoing and himself claims the effects could have been caused by the consumption of marijuana, but Strickland ain’t buying it.

“We’ve all seen him fight with a t*tty that hung down. I mean, have you ever seen a man fighting in the UFC with gyno, from weed? I mean, look at Nate Diaz, if that was the case Nate Diaz would have t*ts down to his knees.”

Strickland may have to deal with Adesanya sooner rather than later, ‘Tarzan’ is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, and a victory in his next outing on Jack Hermanson scheduled for February 5th could be just the calibre of opponent Strickland needs to beat to earn himself a shot at the title.
