UFC featherweight Sean Woodson sees himself as a difficult matchup for champion Ilia Topuria.

Woodson was one of the biggest winners to emerge from this past weekend’s year-ending UFC Fight Night in Tampa, where he stopped the highly touted Fernando Padilla with strikes seconds out from the first round coming to a close.

The result has left “The Sniper” riding a four-fight win streak and unbeaten across his last seven — a run that has him tied with ranked standouts Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy for the longest active unbeaten streak in the featherweight division.

With that in mind, Woodson is looking to join them in the top 15 soon enough as he looks to surge all the way to the gold, which is currently held by the undefeated Topuria.

And should “El Matador” still be on the throne when he gets there, the Missouri native likes his chances.

During his post-fight press conference, Woodson expressed confidence when it comes to how he matches up against the Spaniard.

Given his height and frame, “The Sniper” insisted that he wouldn’t fall to the same fate against Topuria as both Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway did this year.

“(Topuria’s) super good – what he’s done so far is,” Woodson said. “But I’m not going to hold my tongue at all. I don’t feel like he’d be able to do me the way he’s done other people at all. He’s too small, too short. I’m a bad matchup for him. I saw online somebody say he gets up to like 187 (pounds), 190 (outside of camp). I don’t believe that at all. I don’t even get that big. He carries himself like he’s better than he is.

“I will say that I would love to fight him. I know I’m a long ways off from that, but I want that fight bad. I would love to fight him one day. I know it sounds crazy. I haven’t had the best (résumé). I ain’t fought (big names), whatever,” Woodson continued. “But I’m telling you right now, they do not do me like he’s done everybody.”

Woodson has plenty of work to do before having the opportunity to prove that assessment correct opposite Topuria inside the Octagon.

For now, he’ll be celebrating his latest triumph on MMA’s biggest stage and looking ahead to what he’ll no doubt hope will be a big 2025 in the career of “The Sniper.”

Sean Woodson continues to score wins, and this time it came with a bang as he pulled off a major finish of Fernando Padilla during the preliminary card of UFC Tampa.

Woodson had to outlast an early surge from Padilla, but he fought back to fire off his own flurries during the second half of the first round.

“The Sniper” then fired off back-to-back powerful one-two combinations to drop the Mexican in the closing seconds of the first round. Woodson needed just a little ground-and-pound before the referee stepped in to wave off the fight.

This UFC Tampa victory increased Woodson’s run without a defeat to eight straight fights, tying him for longest active unbeaten streak in the UFC’s featherweight division. Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy have the same kind of streak currently.

The 32-year-old finishes 2024 3-0, defeating Charles Jourdain and Alex Caceres earlier this year.

Padilla., meanwhile, falls to 2-2 since making his UFC debut in April 2023.

Bruce Buffer’s pronunciation of the name ‘Sean’ was the cause of a lot of confusion at UFC 297 on Saturday night.

Featherweight standouts Charles Jourdain and Sean Woodson stepped inside the Octagon and delivered an entertaining back-and-forth scrap that left everyone scratching their heads as to who would walk away with the win. Making the official announcement, Buffer revealed that Woodson was the winner via split decision. However, the way he made the announcement left Jourdain believing he had won the bout.

Seeing Jourdain’s reaction, Woodson assumed he was the loser and began to walk away before Daniel Cormier stepped into the cage and let him know that he had won the bout.

Official Result: Sean Woodson def. Charles Jourdain via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-29)

UFC featherweight, Julian Erosa, in currently on his third tenure in the UFC, and is beginning to live up to the potential that has always been evident. Having already submitted the undefeated Sean Woodson, Erosa faced the ever-exciting Nate Landwehr at UFC Vegas 19.

In what was an exhilarating 60 seconds of pure violence, the two fighters clashed in an extreme battle of wills. Despite slipping to one knee early, Erosa got back up and forced Landwehr back. After a wild flurry of strikes from both fighters, Landwehr got clipped and backed up to the cage. This led to an extraordinary flying switch knee from Erosa, momentarily knocking out his opponent and forcing the ref to step in.

An Interview With ‘Juicy J’

Following the impressive win, Julian Erosa took the time to speak with LowKick MMA about his impressive victory, as well as what the future holds for ‘Juicy J.’

“I figured I was gonna be the quicker guy” said Erosa in regards to Landwehr. “I felt like I was outclassing him in every aspect of MMA, but I figured for sure that he was gonna be a tough durable guy. The only thing that really surprised me was the fact I was able to finish him so quick. That doesn’t surprise me on my end, but watching his fights, he’s a durable guy. He’s a tough guy and he likes to put the pace on people. Everything happened the way I figured it would, it just happened a little quicker than I thought it would.”

Whilst the fight only went 60 seconds before Erosa finished it, he was clipped by Landwehr early on and fell to one knee. He discussed how hurt he actually was in the following:

“I think it was a little bit of an off balance, as well as getting hit. I really wasn’t rocked. There was a slight hesitation that I had because of it. He didn’t flash me. He just hit me and I sort of fell over at the same time. Anytime something like that looks bad in a fight, or in training, it kinda lights a fuse and then I’m just going. It’s almost like the gun at a race. As soon as that happens you just take off sprinting, and thats kinda what happened. Everything was pretty technical and then that happened. Then it was just an all out brawl for about 15 seconds. Then I pushed him off me and hit that flying knee.”

In regards to Erosa’s future in the UFC, he had two names that he was especially interested in:

I wanted to fight a guy like (Alex) Caceres, that’d be a fun fight. I wanted to fight Jordan Griffin, he’s kinda caught my eye as well. There’s a couple of guys like that who I would like to fight, and that I think would give me good fight and chase some bonuses down as well. Kinda have some fun. People are always talking about trying to chase a belt, but for me, fightings just something I love to do.

I asked my manager if Jordan Griffin wanted to fight me, and I never got an answer-back. With Caceres, I’ve always been a fan of his. I feel like me and he have two different striking styles, but they’re both entertaining. I feel like me and he would put on a good show for everybody.

Maybe we can fight in May or June.

Who would you like to see Julian Erosa face in the future? Caceres, Griffin or someone else? Let us know in the comments.
