After a strong performance over Jonathon Martinez at UFC 301, the featherweight phenom Jose Aldo is ready to cut the line and chase one more title.

For Aldo, defeating Sean O’Malley and claiming the bantamweight title would be a beautiful note to end his career on. Although Aldo isn’t as old as we’ve seen some fighters get in the UFC, his body has so much mileage from all of the countless brutal battles it has endured.

Now, 4-1 in his last five UFC fights, the legend Jose Aldo is dreaming about another title run. He mentions how his own coach explained that a man with his type of legend status could very well just cut ahead in line and face the champion. What’s more, it’s an idea that seemingly intrigues Aldo.

Jose Aldo speaks on facing Sean O’Malley for the Bantamweight Title

According to Aldo, his coach believes they could waltz into a title shot that they haven’t really earned. Aldo kind of likes this idea, understandably, and spoke on this after his victory at #UFC301.

“[My coach] always says that with my name, I can skip the line, I can get in there because when we left, we were very well ranked…” Jose Aldo said (H/T MMA Fighting). “If we can skip the line, it would be great. It would be great. I think that’s it, I’ll get some rest and go back to strong training, and new challenges will come.”

Aldo held the UFC’s featherweight title for many years and is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the division. In his footsteps, of course, came champions like Max Holloway and then eventually Alexander Volkanovski.

Now, Aldo fights at bantamweight, and could truly ride off into the sunset with one more title to add to his collection. Such a fight would be very hard to get off of simply beating Jonathan Martinez, though, and regardless of whether he wishes to skip the line or not, one could imagine Aldo needs a few more solid victories at least to challenge for the bantamweight throne.

What do you think the future holds for the bantamweight division?

Roastmaster Jeff Ross took the time to hit White with some jokes during the Roast of Tom Brady, and Sean O’Malley got caught in the crossfire.

The Roast of Tom Brady just aired live on Netflix tonight (Sun. May 5th, 2024) and everyone involved took the gloves completely off to wreck the retired Patriots quarterback. It didn’t take long for “TB12” to realize he’d made a terrible mistake agreeing to this. Half the fun involved seeing him squirm in the seat of ‘honor’ as comedians brought up every scandal and embarrassing moment across 20+ years in the spotlight.

Brady wasn’t the only one who was targeted. Roastmaster Jeff Ross got some shots in at UFC CEO Dana White, who was in attendance with Max Holloway and Sean O’Malley. Ross was clearly unfamiliar with “Suga” and his swag.

“What’s up, Dana! Look at this, talk about a legend in the room,” Ross said. “Pull back, I want to show he brought the whole cast of Queer Eye. Dana, who are these guys? Are these guys, are they neutered? What the f— is going on here. The sign said no pets, Dana.”

“I love you Dana,” he continued. “You’re like Michael Vick but with human beings.”

That was probably one of the classier jokes from the evening.

White also got to show off some of his stand up chops:

Give that man his show money and escort his family out of the building!

Andrew Schultz also got a shot in at the Baldfather.

Take a look at some of the other highlights (or lowlights) from the event. We’ll keep you updated on when Tom Brady is released from the burn ward after all that next-level roasting he just endured.

‘The Rock’ Shares Footage From MMA Training Camp

‘The Rock’ is serious about getting his role right as UFC and PRIDE FC veteran Mark Kerr, to the point where he’s entered an MMA training camp to learn the ropes of fighting.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is hard at work preparing for his starring role in the Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine, and he’s just shared some footage from day one of his MMA training camp.

Mark Kerr was a NCAA Division I Wrestling champion who used his skillset to maul people in the early days of No Holds Barred fighting. He won back-to-back UFC heavyweight tournaments before moving on to Japan’s PRIDE FC, where his size and physicality made him a top name. But it all started to fall apart around 2000 due to mental and physical issues caused by Kerr’s steroid use.

This was all captured in the award-winning 2002 HBO documentary The Smashing Machine. Twenty years later, indie darling studio A24 is retelling the tale with “The Rock” starring as Kerr. To prepare for the role, Johnson is spending a lot of time in the ring working on the wrestling and ground & pound skills needed to realistically portray a cage fighter.

“I’m learning daily and it’s been a very humbling, intense and motivating journey into this world of combat and becoming Mark Kerr – the two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, World Vale Tudo Champion,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “I’m a hard worker, but I realized that I’d have to work harder with this role than anything I’ve ever worked for in my life.”

“This physicality is just one part of the larger journey, that is truly a team effort. Growing and grateful.”

The role comes at a time where Johnson’s reputation as a Hollywood golden boy is under attack. A scathing in-depth report on “The Rock” from The Wrap accused the WWE superstar of showing up several hours late to movie sets, costing his upcoming Christmas action film Red One an extra $50 million in production costs. There were also strange stories of how Dwayne would pee into bottles on set, leaving them for crew to clean up.

Johnson’s reps have denied these tales are true, but there’s ample evidence that “The Rock” is a difficult actor to wrangle schedule-wise — which could cause issues for the lower budget A24 production.

But hey, maybe he just didn’t give a crap about Fast X or Red One, while The Smashing Machine is clearly a passion project. For now Johnson is clearly locked into the role and working hard on making the best Smashing Machine he can. It will be hard for him to beat the 2002 version, but we look forward to seeing the end result regardless.

Ryan Garcia claims he will ‘Quit boxing’ if recent PED use accusations are true: ‘I would never cheat’

Ryan Garcia is holding firm to the pretense that he did not knowingly cheat ahead of his fight with Devin Haney in April, despite what a failed drug test might insinuate.

The circumstances surrounding the fight were already controversial due to Garcia missing weight ahead of the event, but they turned rather spectacular as Garcia went on to deliver a brutal beatdown of Haney on his way to a decision victory.

Less than a month after the fight, it was reported that Garcia had failed not one but two drug tests for a banned performance-enhancing substance called Ostarine. According to Ryan Garcia, though, he never took steroids and has passionately denied the allegations.

Speaking to fellow boxer and social media celebrity Jake Paul on Instagram Live, Garcia spoke about these allegations and kept claiming that he was innocent.

“Ryan, if you did do it, then that’s really f*cked up,” Paul said (H/T MMA Fighting). “I’m going to be pissed off at you as a friend, that’s f*cked up.”

“If I did it, which I know damn well I didn’t, I would quit boxing,” Garcia replied. “I didn’t do it. That’s crazy… God is watching me at all times. I’m not going to do something to cheat people. I could have hurt him. I could have killed him. Why the f*ck would I do that? It’s so stupid, I’m not going to do it. Deadass, I would never cheat.”

Jake Paul backed to put up challenge to Conor McGregor in MMA fight

The fight was of epic magnitude for Ryan Garcia, who had the chance to capture his first-ever world title against Haney. However, this opportunity would be denied due to his weight miss on the scales. Now, even the win itself is of question, as obviously, the usage of PEDs would invalidate this impressive victory.

UFC 301 went down last night (Sat., May 4, 2024) inside Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the main event of the evening, Alexandre Pantoja defeated Steve Erceg via unanimous decision to retain his Flyweight title. In the co-main event, Jose Aldo turned back the hands of time to secure a dominant unanimous decision win over Jonathan Martinez in a Bantamweight affair (recap here).

UFC 301: Pantoja v Erceg
Photo by Alexandre Loureiro/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Alexandre Pantoja
Who He Should Face Next: Amir Albazi (or Muhammad Mokaev)

Pantoja earned his second straight title defense after taking out a very game Erceg, but his next opponent might offer a bit more resistance in the former of No. 3 ranked Amir Albazi. “The Prince” is currently on a six-fight win streak, five inside the Octagon. He was set to face former title challenger, Brandon Moreno, earlier this year before he was bounced out of the fight with a neck injury. Muhammad Mokaev, who is undefeated at 12-0-1, 6-0 UFC, also has a good case, but Albazi gets it in my opinion just for the sake of being ranked ahead of him by three spots. That said, rankings do not seem to matter much these days, just ask Erceg, who got the title fight while sitting at No. 10.

UFC 301: Aldo v Martinez
Photo by Alexandre Loureiro/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Jose Aldo
Who He Should Face Next: Dominick Cruz

Getting a win after two years on the sidelines is very impressive, especially for an aging veteran. But Aldo showed the combat world that he still has plenty left in the tank with a nice win over a younger streaking contender (highlights here). There were rumblings that Aldo and Cruz were possibly set to throw down at UFC 301, so why no re-visit this potential matchup between two World Extreme Cafefighting (WEC) and UFC legends? Both may not get to another title fight in their UFC careers, so a this point nostalgic fights may be the way to go as their MMA careers wind down.

Winner: Anthony Smith
Who He Should Face Next: Menifield vs. Ulberg winner

Smith pull off a huge upset by choking out Vitor Petrino in the very first round, giving him his first win since narrowly defeating Ryan Spann in Aug. 2023 via split decision. Currently ranked No. 10, “Lionheart” may expect to get the call to face the winner of the upcoming fight between Alonzo Menifield and Carlos Ulberg, who are set to collide next Saturday at UFC St. Louis.

UFC 301: Pereira v Potieria
Photo by Alexandre Loureiro/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Michel Pereira
Who He Should Face Next: Anthony Hernandez

Pereira secured his eight straight win with an impressive 54-second submission win over Ihor Potieria. The always-entertaining striker is as wild as they come. And while it is fun to watch, once he starts facing the Top 15 he might have to be a bit more technical and less careless because they will make him pay for it. Up next, I am feeling a potential fight against Hernandez next. “Fluffy” is currently on a five-fight win streak with his last defeat coming four years ago. Hernandez is currently sitting at No. 12, while Borralho can expect to move up a few spots from the No. 14 spot following his latest win.

MMA: MAY 04 UFC 301

Winner: Caio Borralho
Who He Should Face Next: Jack Hermansson

Borralho earned his thirteenth straight win by absolutely demolishing Paul Craig via second-round knockout. Borralho can expect to move up a few spots from the No. 14 spot following his latest win, so I am feeling a possible bout against Hermansson, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Joe Pyfer.
