Shara Magomedov received quite the opportunity as the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi on very short notice. That was following the announcement that Nick Diaz would not be able to compete in his originally scheduled fight with Vicente Luque.

If one were to ask fans if “Bullet” made the most of his opportunity, they’d be split after his performance, which saw him get the decision win over Micha? Oleksiejczuk.

For all that people have been previously impressed by Magomedov, things seemed to be a problem early on. The Dagestani had the better strikes and kept his distance, busting Oleksiejczuk open with an elbow. The Polish veteran, however, landed one punch that briefly knocked “Bullet” down.

Magomedov continued to outwork him with striking in the second round, and Oleksiejczuk didn’t make much of the takedown he scored at the end of the frame.

Magomedov then cruised his way to a clear decision win, with two 30-27 scorecards and a 29-28.

Though the UFC has previously announced they intend to re-book Nick Diaz vs. Vicente Luque, Magomedov surprisingly called out the elder Diaz brother following his win.

Magomedov is now 3-0 in the UFC, defeating Bruno Silva at UFC 294 and finishing Antonio Trócoli just over a month ago in Saudi Arabia.

Oleksiejczuk, meanwhile, has now lost three straight and four of his last five.

Shara Magomedov moves to 14-0 with dominant UD win, calls out Nick Diaz - UFC Abu Dhabi Highlights

After scoring his 13th career win six weeks ago at UFC Saudi Arabia, Shara Magomedov returned to the Octagon on Saturday night in Abu Dhabi for a short-notice scrap with Polish powerhouse Micha? Oleksiejczuk. ‘Bullet’ entered his second fight in as many months on the heels of a big win over Antonio Trócoli in Riyadh. Before that, the undefeated Russian bested Bruno Silva at UFC 294 in October.

Meanwhile, Oleksiejczuk stepped inside the Octagon determined to snap a two-fight losing skid after suffering back-to-back submission losses against Michel Pereira and Kevin Holland.

Putting pressure on early, Oleksiejczuk landed a straight left that sat down Magomedov in the early moments of the opening round. However, it was ‘Hussar’ who was wearing all the damage after getting busted open by a perfectly-timed elbow in close.

Magomedov held the striking advantage in the second, though Oleksiejczuk made a case for himself in the final minute, scoring a takedown and threatening ‘Bullet’ with an RNC. Unable to cinch it in, Oleksiejczuk was content to hold position and potentially steal the round on the scorecards.

As Magomedov began to run away with it in the third, Oleksiejczuk once again went to ground game and secured a takedown. ‘Bullet’ fought his way back up, but quickly found himself flat on his back with less than a minute to go in the fight. Despite the unfavorable position, Magomedov lit up his opponent with some nasty elbows from the bottom just before the final bell.

Shara Magomedov repulsed by Paris Olympics 2024: 'Humiliating'

Ahead of his return at UFC Abu Dhabi this weekend, unbeaten middleweight contender, Shara Magomedov has become the latest fighter to hit out at the Paris Olympic Games, claiming the highly-scrutinized opening ceremony was “humiliating”

Magomedov, who returns to action this weekend at UFC Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, takes on Polish veteran, Michal Oleksiejczuk over the course of three rounds in the pair’s co-main event clash.

Replacing a pairing between welterweight veterans, Vicente Luque, and former title challenger, Nick Diaz on just two weeks’ notice, Magomedov makes his third Octagon walk following a prior knockout win over Antonio Trocoli back in June at UFC Saudi Arabia earlier this summer.

And following recent criticizm from current undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev who described the opening ceremony display as “disgusting” – Magomedov is the latest UFC star to voice his displeasure.

“Honestly speaking, I was in shock,” Shara Magomedov told Red Corner MMA. “I felt like they just tried to mock everybody. It rather looked like a meme than a real official ceremony. They really mocked people watching it. I used to be a big fan of the Olympics and collected memorabilia from Atlanta, Sydney, etc. I collected those Olympic memorabilia, and it’s still kept at my place. But now I feel like burning all these stuff down.”

“Now I have no regrets about not competing at this Olympics, because now the UFC is the real Olympics for me. Not the Olympics, which is just insanity in action,” Shara Magomedov explained. “Humiliating human values and all sports. It’s not about sports, it’s just a weird mix, mocking all the religions, all the moral values. Somehow, they don’t let Russia into the Olympics, but Israel is there competing.”

Undefeated standout Shara Magomedov just added another knockout to his resume.

In a video clip shared by @DovySimuMMA on X, ‘Bullet’ was showing off some of his kicks as his friend filmed the spontaneous striking display on his iPhone. Unfortunately, Magomedov got a tad too close and ended up KO’ing his buddy’s mobile device.

Fortunately, Magomedov should have the coin to cover the cost of a new phone with him having a big fight this Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

Shara Magomedov calls for fight with flashy Michel Pereira at UFC Saudi Arabia you damn acrobat

Shara Magomedov has called out Michel Pereira after the Brazilian knocked Ihor Potieria out of their fight at UFC Saudi Arabia on June 22.

Poteiria was set to face Magomedov on June 22, but he also stepped up on short notice to face Pereira at UFC 301 in Brazil. The hope was he would be healthy enough to fight again in June, but after he was finished in the first round, he would not be cleared to compete on June 22, so he was pulled from the fight.

Shara Magomedov calls for fight with Michel Pereira in Saudi Arabia

Following the news that Potieria was pulled from their fight, Magomedov took to social media to call out Pereira.

“[Michel Pereira] you damn acrobat, I lost my opponent because of you,” Magomedov wrote in an Instagram Story (via MMAMania). “Everyone knows that you can do backflips now, but UFC is not a circus. You made an illegal move, and now you have to (be) punished. Let us kick him out of the rankings and let me deal with this clown. Ship him to Saudi Arabia on June 22nd and I will board him.”

After the news that Potieria won’t be fighting Shara Magomedov at UFC Saudi Arabia, he also took to social media and called for the fight to be overturned due to the illegal kick.

Michel Pereira UFC 301

“It’s a shame, but UFC suspended me from fighting for three months due to an illegal kick,” Potieria wrote on social media. “Perhaps there will be justice and this fight will be annulled.”

Of course, Pereira landed a somersault into a kick that appeared to hit Potieria in the head, but the ref didn’t stop it and just moments later he finished him with a submission.

Although Shara Magomedov has called out Michel Pereira for UFC Saudi Arabia, the callout will go unanswered as the Brazilian is set to return at UFC 302 on June 1 against Roman Dolidze.

Michel Pereira

Pereira will be fighting ahead of him in the rankings, while Magomedov doesn’t have his next fight booked. But, perhaps, in the future Magomedov will get to settle his differences with Pereira inside the Octagon.

Those who were hoping to see another Nick Diaz appearance in the Octagon really soon will be disappointed.

Per the broadcast of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night, a “travel issue” has left Diaz unable to compete in his scheduled co-main event bout with Vicente Luque on Aug. 3, when the promotion holds a UFC Fight Night card at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

It was announced that undefeated middleweight prospect Sharabutdin “Bullet” Magomedov will now be featured in the new co-main event, taking on Michal Oleksiejczuk.

Diaz’s last UFC appearance came at UFC 266 in September 2021, losing to Robbie Lawler. That marked the Stockton star’s first MMA fight since his January 2015 clash with Anderson Silva.

Luque, meanwhile, has lost three of his last four, most recently being stopped by Joaquin Buckley at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City.

The UFC is expected to reschedule Luque vs. Diaz for an event at a late date.

Luque & Diaz Out, Magomedov In For UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi

Magomedov competed just last month at UFC Fight Night Saudi Arabia, scoring a third-round finish of Antonio Trócoli. He made his Octagon debut in Abu Dhabi last year, defeating Bruno Silva at UFC 294.

Oleksiejczuk, on the other hand, has lost three of his last four, most recently being submitted by Kevin Holland at UFC 302 last month in Newark.

UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi on August 3 will be headlined by Cory Sandhagen vs. Umar Nurmagomedov. It is the first of two events to take place in Abu Dhabi this year, with UFC 308 to be held in the same location on October 26.
