SF 14 posterPress Release – (17 February 2011): Popular Texas based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that Matt Horwich and Danillo Villefort will headline Shark Fights 14, the organizations first event of 2011. The fight card is stacked with 15 compelling match-ups and the referee in charge will be none other than Big John McCarthy. This highly anticipated event will take place on Friday, March 11 at the Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas.

According to Shark Fight Promotions president Brent Medley, “We can’t wait to kick off the year with Shark Fights 14! Not only is the fight card stacked with exciting fights, Big John McCarthy will be the official referee in charge. We are also in negotiations with a major network as we speak and hope to secure a nationally televised deal, so stay tuned!”

Medley went on to say, “We are very excited about the main event match up and anxious to see Danillo back in action. He took his fight against Joey Villasenor on a week’s notice and delivered beyond our expectations. We can’t wait to see what he can do after a full camp. If Danillo defeats Horwich it will be a huge win for him. Horwich has fought for every notable televised promotion in the industry and has defeated numerous A-list fighters. It’s going to be a very exciting fight. Fans will not want to miss this! “

Matt Horwich (26-16-1) is coming off of a recent TKO victory over Jake Rosholt and is looking to add another win to his record on March 11. Horwich is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and trained under Royce Gracie himself. He is a UFC, WEC and Bellator veteran and was the IFL’s first ever middleweight champion. Horwich boasts impressive wins over marquee fighters such as Krzysztof Soszynski, Mike Pyle, Benji Radach, and Thales Leites.

His opponent Danillo Villefort (12-3-0) recently clinched his third straight win after defeating Strikeforce veteran Joey Villasenor at Shark Fights 13 with an impressive unanimous decision victory. This hard hitting UFC veteran is the son of Vale Tudo legend Francisco “Master Indio” Silva and god-son of Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. He holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has fought for prominent organizations such as the IFL, WEC and the UFC. Villefort also holds notable wins over top contenders such as Mike Massenzio and Mike Campbell.

Shark Fights continues to draw top talent and has no plans of slowing down. According to Medley, “The last few years have been stellar for our organization. We would not be where we are today without the fighters that make our cards worth watching and the support of the fans and the media. We are very happy with what we have accomplished to date, but I can say with confidence that the best is yet to come. We have big plans for 2011!”

Shark Fight Promotions has achieved many significant milestones over the past two years and continues to set the bar high for other MMA promotions. It is safe to say that the organization has successfully earned their position as an industry leader, from breaking attendance records to hosting the highest profile MMA pay-per-view event on record for a regional promoter.

Shark Fight Promotions will be announcing the full Shark Fight 14 fight card soon! The event will take place on Friday, March 11 at the Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock Texas. Doors open at 5:00pm CT. Fights start at 6:30 pm CT. Tickets are available at Select a Seat and United Super Market locations. Keith Jardine Fought Migraine & Trevor Prangley At Shark Fights 13

It took me two rounds to get through that, everything he was touching me with hurt. I was in a bad situation, so I gritted it out and in the third round my head kind of cleared up and things worked out well in that round, but I guess not well enough to win the fight.”

You know if you stick mixed martial arts legend Don Frye behind the microphone your going to get some classic one liners, and Saturday night, Frye didn’t disappoint.

Frye joined another mma legend, Bas Ruten, and HDNet television personality, Ron Kruck, for the live color commentary for Shark Fights 13 event from Amarillo, Texas.

MMAFighting.com put together a great list of Frye’s comments.

We thought you’d enjoy reading some of those great one-liners.

On the preliminary card fights: “That was like prison sex: hard, sweaty, violent and there was a lot of noise.”

On cauliflower ear: “This guy’s tough. His ears are like potatoes. Looks like he got stuck in the birth canal, had to beat him out with a stick.”

On his background as a wrestler: “Look at me: I’m a wrestler. My balls are so big, I wear the excess on my hat.”

During a discussion with Rutten over their records: “I started counting fights when I’d come home drunk and knock my old lady around,” to which Kruck, ever the straight-man, quickly covered for him by saying, “I bet she’s got a few wins over you, too.”

On Keith Jardine’s stance: “He’s so awkward. He’s like a rabid octopus. He looks like he’s about to fall over at any time.” Fortunately, Kruck didn’t point out to him that an octopus, as a cold-blooded animal, cannot get rabies.

On the staredown between Rees and Bradley: “Like a couple of tribal Vikings out there. Blond hair, blue eyes …”

When Kruck mistakenly called Frye “Bas”: “No, I’m Don. Bas is the ugly guy with no hair.”
