There’s nothing worse than a terrible decision where the winner loses and the loser clearly wins.

Unfortunately for both fighters and fight fans, it’s more commonplace than you think.

The history of the UFC has produced some awful decisions. Let’s take a look at the 10 worst robberies in the UFC, updated for 2018:

10. Sam Alvey Defeats Gian Villante – UFC Fight Night 131

As for more recent robberies, this one certainly stands out. When ‘Smilin’ Sam Alvey called out Gian Villante following Alvey’s victory in his light heavyweight debut, fight fans oddly took notice.

Sure, they weren’t the biggest names in the division, but both men are known scrappers with some thrilling knockout victories to their name.

Which is why the fight itself felt massively deflating watching it play out. Alvey resorted to the kind of extreme bouts of inactivity he’s been known for when he can’t score the knockout. Alvey did manage to knock his opponent down towards the end of the first round, but there wasn’t enough time left to finish him.

Meanwhile, Villante did his best to cut off the cage and corner Alvey. The Long Island native showed excellent Octagon control and was winning the fight beyond the flash knockdown at the end of round one.

So it wasn’t too surprising to see the crowd react the way they did once the split decision was announced in Alvey’s favor. That one knockdown apparently negated the other 14 minutes and 45 seconds where Villante controlled the fight.

An obviously disappointed and stunned Villante left the arena scratching his head at how he could have lost that fight, and fight fans were left just as confused.

Sometimes, a single knockdown can win over the judges, even more so than the remaining 15 minutes of the fight.

The UFC has re-booked the fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

It’s been well documented that the former title contender was slated to fight former UFC light heavyweight champion in the co-main event of the upcoming UFC Chile event.

However, that fight got scrapped once it was revealed that Oezdemir’s ongoing legal situation in Florida will not allow him to leave the country and this fight will have to be scheduled for a later date.

Oezdemir had to surrender his passport as part of a third-degree felony battery charge due to an alleged incident in Florida.

It’s well known by now that Oezdemir was arrested as a result of a bar fight in August where Oezdemir allegedly hit an individual. Oezdemir was released on $10,000 bond. He was in a fight with a man named Kevin Cohen, who sustained swelling and received cuts on his head from the fight.

The alleged incident went down at Capone in Fort Lauderdale and it was described by Oezdemir’s attorney, Bruce A. Zimet that it was a bar room altercation. He made it clear that his client was not the aggressor and was totally justified in his actions.

Cohen told police that he went outside after hearing a friend had been knocked unconscious following a verbal altercation with another man. Cohen told cops that he looked up and was hit in the face.

Cohen would go on to state that he lost consciousness for about 14 minutes and was taken to the hospital. This is where he was treated for concussion symptoms and given multiple staples for lacerations. People outside the bar told Cohen that it was Oezdemir that hit him.

Now, the promotion has officially announced that this fight would go down at the UFC Hamburg event (also known as UFC Fight Night 134).

UFC Hamburg is set to take place on July 22, 2018, at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Earlier this week word arrived that former UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua was returning to action against recent title contender Volkan Oezdemir at May’s UFC Chile.

The Brazilian MMA legend has been out of action since his rousing TKO win over Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night 106 last March, but Rua is quietly maintaining a three-fight win streak in the contender-deficient UFC light heavyweight class.

If he can get past Oezdemir, the No. 7-ranked Rua would potentially be on the cusp of title contention again, but he’s aware “No Time” is anything but an easy match-up.

Rua recently told MMA Fighting his respect for Oezdemir and added that he simply likes the challenge the Swiss slugger, who rose up the UFC ranks very quickly with two consecutive knockouts in 2017, brings to the cage:

”I think Volkan is a great fighter, the No. 2 in the ranking, but I like challenges. It’s going to be a big challenge for me, and I think it’s an interesting fight for the fans.

”In a short time in the UFC, he was a phenom, easily beating Manuwa and Misha, who are good fighters, and that earned him a shot at the belt,” Rua said. “He has evolved a lot since he joined the UFC. I know he’s a really tough guy.”

Yet even though Oezdemir bulldozed his way into a title bout against champion Daniel Cormier at January’s UFC 220, his rapid rise came to a halt just as quickly when “DC” ground him en route to a dominant stoppage victory in Boston. So Rua acknowledged that while his go-to skill is his dangerous Muay Thai, the longtime legend admitted he would be willing to ground the fight if he needed to:

”Muay thai is my background, but I fight MMA,” Rua said. “If I need to take him down to go on an easier path, I will do that. I know that Volkan has a good striking, but he also has a good wrestling, a good takedown defense, and sometimes you wear yourself out trying to take someone down. I will work hard on my muay thai, jiu-jitsu and wrestling, and I hope I can impose my strategy and come out victorious.”

Despite this gameplan, Rua knows Oezdemir is a big test, one where if he finds himself on the victorious side would possibly propel him to another title shot – a shot he fully insists he would have earned:

”This is a tough fight, but I know that, if I win, I will be one step closer to having another chance to fight for the belt,” Rua said. “I face every fight as a dream, and defeating Volkan is my dream now. That might earn me a chance for the belt. My focus is 100 percent on him, and I know that I will be closer to the belt with a win.

”Everybody knows my career, knows that I was a champion in PRIDE and in the UFC. I’ve been fighting the world’s best fighters since 2005, so if I win this fight I will deserve to fight for the belt — for my history, being a former champion, and for fighting someone like Oezdemir, the No. 2 in the ranking.”

Rua has a clear goal in mind, and it’s one that would no doubt put him amongst the best light heavyweights in UFC history were he to regain the title he lost to arguably the best 205-pound champ Jon Jones in 2011.

He said it’s not quite time to fully focus on that, because while it is his ultimate goal he can only focus on the task in front of him in Oezdemir:

”I don’t think about that yet. If I have a chance to fight for the belt I will definitely envision that moment, but right now I can only envision my victory over Oezdemir. It would obviously be a big dream to reconquer the UFC belt.”

Former title contender Volkan Oezdemir has his next fight booked, and it’s going to be a challenge.

The promotion announced on Wednesday night that Oezdemir is slated to fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 129 or better known as UFC Chile.

Rua comes into this fight after being on the sidelines for over a year now. He was last seen in the Octagon when he picked up TKO of Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night 106 in March 2017. This win marked his third straight victory, which is the longest winning of his UFC career.

If you recall, he was supposed to rematch Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night 117 in September. However, that wasn’t meant to be as he was forced to withdraw from the contest due to a knee injury.

On the flip side, Oezdemir is looking to get back in the win column and on track to another title shot as he suffered a second-round TKO loss against Daniel Cormier at UFC 220 in January.

UFC Chile is set to take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile. The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 at while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 at and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Although the UFC has yet to announce the main event for this show, Volkan Oezdemir vs. Mauricio Rua could serve as the headliner. This card has yet to be finalized but here is the updated card:

Volkan Oezdemir vs. Mauricio Rua
Chad Laprise vs. Vicente Luque
Guido Cannetti vs. Diego Rivas
Alexa Grasso vs. Tatiana Suarez
Andrea Lee vs. Veronica Macedo
Poliana Botelho vs. Syuri Kondo
