Falling Tree Knockout of the Day: Theo Michailidis Wrecks Corrin Eaton With a Spinning Back Elbow

I don’t know anything about London-based featherweight Theo Michailidis, other than the fact that he’s fought a bunch of guys with charmingly foreign names. (Kenzos Xristos! Giorgi Papuasvilli! Alex Bilobrovaka!) Last Saturday at BCMMA 9, Michailidis took on the relatively normal-named Corrin Eaton, and blasted him in the jaw with a devastating spinning back-elbow near the end of the first round. Eaton stiffens up and falls directly backwards; falling tree knockout has been achieved. Also, I think the ref’s t-shirt says “MAKE TEA NOT WAR,” which is 1) incredibly British, and 2) kind of unexpected in a combat sports setting.

Knockout of the Year Candidate: Christine Stanley’s Five-Second Jumping Hook-Kick KO

On Saturday night at XFS Tidal Wave in Valley Center, California, strawweight prospect Christine Stanley scored the greatest knockout we’ve seen all year, and arguably the most impressive knockout in women’s MMA history. Basically, what Stanley did to opponent Katie Anita Runyan was like Uriah Hall vs. Adam Cella, but in mid-air, and with the very first strike she threw.

Although he might not sport that impressive of a record, Brazilian striker Claudiere Freitas is a goddamn nightmare when given a little space to fire off some kicks. Just take his fight with Lucas Mascena at last weekend’s Talent MMA Circuit 4 event, for instance, which ended two minutes into the first round via a spinning heel kick that had Mascena planking like it was 2011. (Author’s note: NERD!)

The best part? Mascena attempted a spinning hook kick of his own not ten seconds before Freitas used his face to demonstrate how one is properly done. That’s what we here in the States call “learning something the hard way” — a phrase that is typically followed by “Fuck this shit I’ll have Johnson in accounting explain it with a PowerPoint tomorrow.” The even more better part? It turns out that this wasn’t even Freitas’ first KO victory to come by way of that technique. Join us after the jump to see what we mean…
