Curtis Blaydes believes Stipe Miocic can beat Jon Jones he hits harder

Curtis Blaydes is a UFC heavyweight who is looking forward to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic battling later this year.

‘Bones’ Jones captured the UFC heavyweight title with a first-round submission against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. His next match will likely be against the former heavyweight king Stipe Miocic.

Jones made his legacy in the light heavyweight division remaining unbeaten for nearly a decade. Over his title reign, ‘Bones’ defeated multiple former or future UFC world champions. After vacating his light heavyweight title in 2020, he just made his triumphant return to the octagon capturing the heavyweight throne.

Curtis Blaydes on Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic

UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes spoke to LowKick MMA’s James Lynch in an interview and he was uncertain about who to pick, he said:

“I don’t know. Because it’s heavyweight. It takes one punch. I would like to see Stipe get the win, for him to walk off into the sunset. But I could see Jon being able to finish him also. I honestly don’t know.”

However, if he had to choose a betting favorite in the match, Blaydes said:

“I would favor Jon. Because he’s more creative on the feet. You have to worry about a lot more. Stipe, I still think he hits harder. I think he has legitimate heavyweight power … I think he hits harder than Jon.”

Curtis ‘Razor’ Blaydes is on a three-fight win streak in the UFC’s heavyweight division. The US-born athlete is top-ranked in the division with consecutive wins over Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Chris Daukaus, and Tom Aspinall.

Kamaru Usman drops down UFC pound for pound rankings list

Kamaru Usman, who was once the UFC pound-for-pound number one fighter, has once again dropped down the ladder with the conclusion of his trilogy against Leon Edwards.

With all the marbles on the line at UFC 286, Usman had made it clear that Edwards capitalizing on a mistake he made in their rematch would not be repeated, but ‘Rocky’ once again found a way to win.

Although there may have been several referee interventions against Edwards, including a point deduction after a fence grab, the Jamaican-born welterweight remained composed and clearly out-pointed Kamaru Usman over five rounds, winning by majority decision.

Kamaru Usman slips down the UFC pound-for-pound pile

This, just the second loss of Usman’s UFC career, steered him down three spots in the P4P rankings, taking him from #5 to #8.

Undisputed bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling (#7), newly crowned middleweight champion Alex Pereira (#6), and former champion Israel Adesanya (#5) all moved up ahead of the Kamaru Usman.

Pereira will defend his title for the first time at UFC 287 in Miami, Florida. This will be his fourth time exchanging blows with ‘The last stylebender’ in combat sports, and it will surely have a major influence on the next P4P update.

Sterling will go head-to-head with former two-division champion Henry Cejudo at UFC 288, as Cejudo returns following a three-year layoff.

While Jon Jones is set to face Stipe Miocic this summer, it is unlikely any result removes him from his P4P #1 status, a ranking he has been familiar with throughout his UFC career.

It is up to Alexander Volkanovski (#2), who will be returning to featherweight to fight interim champion Yair Rodriguez later this year, to put any kind of pressure on Jones’ position.

P4P #3 Islam Makhachev may have struggled immensely in his first championship defence, but he will have to remain consistent as Edwards crawls his way up the rankings.

Edwards is expected to hold his second title defence against Colby Covington as per Dana White.

Jon Jones accuses Stipe Miocic avoiding UFC 290 fight

Jon Jones called out Stipe Miocic on social media, telling the Ohio native to stop wasting everyone’s time.

Earlier this month, ‘Bones’ made his long-awaited return to the Octagon and made quick work of top heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane to capture the vacant UFC heavyweight championship. Even before he squared off with Gane, talks of a scrap with general consensus heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic made the rounds with both fighters seemingly game. However, that may not be the case according to recent posts by Jones.

On Twitter, Jon Jones called out Miocic, claiming that the former two-time titleholder had dodged a fight with him all last year and suggesting that Miocic was once again dragging his feet when it comes to their rumored July meeting.

“Yo @stipemiocic only you the UFC and I know the truth, you dodged me all of 2022 – July, September & December,” Jones tweeted. “Now I’m hearing rumors that we may not be fighting this July.”

Jones followed that up with another tweet aimed at Miocic.

“Bro it’s simple, either you believe in yourself or you don’t. Either you want this challenge or you don’t. Stop wasting everyone’s time.”

Stipe Miocic Responds to Jon Jones on Twitter

Stipe Miocic quickly responded to Jones’ callout on Twitter, posting a graphic for their anticipated July showdown with the caption, “See you in July.”

Stipe Miocic has been out of action since losing the UFC heavyweight championship via second-round knockout to the recently released Francis Ngannou. Prior to that, Miocic engaged in a heavyweight trilogy with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier. Miocic won their last two matchups, capturing the heavyweight title for a second time and solidifying himself as the greatest heavyweight in promotional history.

With Jon Jones’ quick finish of Ciryl Gane, ‘Bones’ is eager to take care of business with Miocic in an effort to establish himself as the greatest fighter in UFC history. Though an argument could be made that Jones has already done more than enough to earn that accolade.

The UFC has made no official announcement regarding Jon Jones’ first heavyweight title defense, but the showdown with Stipe Miocic is expected to take place at UFC 290 in July during International Fight Week.

UFC middleweight Sean Strickland is looking to help build the confidence of Stipe Miocic ahead of his showdown against Jon Jones.

Jon Jones vacated his light heavyweight throne in 2020 and remained inactive until 2023. Prior to that, he had set the UFC record for wins in UFC light heavyweight title fights at a whopping 14.

In 2023, he returned to the octagon and captured the vacant heavyweight throne with a first-round submission against Ciryl Gane. Next, he has set his sites on the former heavyweight king Stipe Miocic.

Sean Strickland wants to help Stipe Miocic for Jon Jones

As the US-born Stipe Miocic prepares for his matchup against Jon Jones, UFC fighter Sean Strickland is looking to do everything he can to help Miocic. In an interview with Helen Yee Sports, Strickland explained:

“Stipe [Miocic], bro, please, man. Do it for me,” he continued. “Stipe, if you want to train, come here, I’ll be your punching bag, we can fight every day. Whatever the f*** you need, Stipe. I’m your man. Come train with me. Come to Xtreme Couture. I f****** got you. I’ll wrestle you all day long, dude. All day long.”

Strickland also shares his thought on Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, he said:

“Let me say one thing about f****** Jon Jones. Greatest fighter in the world, but Jon Jones sucks, you guys. He’s failed the most drug tests, he f****** beat his wife bloody, he hit a pregnant lady and drove off breaking her arms. So, my thing is, yes, you could have been the greatest fighter, but with how many drug tests you failed, it’s not right. Jon Jones should never be allowed to fight in the UFC again. It’s a mockery that they let him fight.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting]

Jon Jones retire Dana White Stipe Miocic Fight

UFC president Dana White believes that Jon Jones may call it a career if he can get past Stipe Miocic.

Jon Jones is a former UFC light heavyweight world champion with several impressive wins to his name. Throughout this career, he has been able to defeat a total of eight former, current, future, or interim UFC champions. After cementing himself as an all-time in his UFC title run, he vacated his light heavyweight throne in 2020.

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones just made his comeback earlier this month at UFC 285. Jones was able to defeat former UFC heavyweight interim champion Ciryl Gane via first-round submission. After this impressive performance, Jones will next face the former UFC heavyweight king Stipe Miocic.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic

Stipe Miocic is one of the most impressive UFC heavyweight champions in the organization’s history. The US-born athlete was able to break the heavyweight record for most title defenses. Miocic has notable wins over Daniel Cormier, Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos, and plenty of others.

It appears later this year that the UFC heavyweight crown will be fought between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. UFC president Dana White believes that Jones may call it a career with a win. Speaking to TMZ, White said:

“Here’s the thing that makes this so awesome, you have the greatest mixed martial artist of all-time facing the greatest heavyweight of all-time. It literally doesn’t get any better than that. These are the kinds of fights you dream about making … “I wouldn’t be shocked if he fights Stipe and then retires, and doesn’t fight again.” [Transcript courtesy of Sherdog]

Jon Jones UFC 290 Stipe Miocic matchup means the world

Recently minted undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has claimed that a potential UFC 290 return to fight former two-tiem division champion, Stipe Miocic “means the world” to him, as he looks to defend his title for the first time.

Headlining UFC 285 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jones managed to clinch the vacant heavyweight title with a stunning, opening round guillotine choke win over former interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

Claiming he gave Gane a “chiropractic adjustment” with his taut first round guillotine choke win, Jones immediately called for a title defense opposite the above-mentioned Ohio veteran, Miocic, who revealed pre-fight that he had already been offered a title fight against the UFC 285 main event winner for July.

Jon Jones walked back a potential UFC 290 fight with Stipe Miocic initially

Remaining coy on a July return to the Octagon during International Fight Week, Jones has explained, however, how the opportunity to fight Miocic – whom he considers the greatest heavyweight of all time, means the world to him.

“There has never been a fight that means more to me than beating Stipe Miocic,” Jon Jones said on the UFC 285 post-fight show. “I don’t think I’ve ever fought a GOAT and people consider him the greatest heavyweight of all time. None of my past champions that I’ve beat were considered GOATs, so this GOAT versus GOAT [fight], means the world to me.”

Sidelined since March 2021, Miocic, a former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, headlined UFC 260 against former undisputed titleholder, Francis Ngannou in the pair’s heavyweight championship rematch, suffering a thunderous second round KO loss to the Batié knockout artist.

During his two successful title reigns, Miocic landed championship defenses against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, Ngannou, and common-opponent, former two-division gold holder, Daniel Cormier.
