Stipe Miocic claims UFC is making him wait to fight Jon Jones next year it wasn't my choice

Former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic has claimed it was out of his hands if wanted to continue to compete at UFC 295 next month against an opponent other than Jon Jones – claiming the Dana White-led organization made the choice for him.

Miocic, a former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the organization, was set to feature in the main event of UFC 295 next month in Madison Square Garden, until his title fight return against Jones was cancelled.

And as a result, Ohio fan-favorite, Miocic has since been pulled from the card entirely, in favor of an interim heavyweight title fight between surging divisional contenders, Sergei Pavlovich, and Tom Aspinall.

Stipe Miocic claims the UFC want him to wait to fight Jon Jones next year

Sharing his thoughts on the shelved pairing against Endicott native, Jones, Miocic claimed he had no offer to compete at UFC 295 in the pound-for-pound number one’s absence.

“I don’t know why I didn’t get picked, which is fine,” Stipe Miocic said on his OnlyFans. “I understand they [the UFC] have a direction they want to go [in]. I’m okay with that. Every guy in the division is tough. I definitely want to fight the biggest fish, which is Jon Jones. It wasn’t my choice, it was theirs.”

“Listen, everything happens for a reason,” Stipe Miocic explained. “The fight [with Jon Jones] being canceled, it sucks. No question about it. Unfortunately, that’s just the game we’re in. It happens. Like I said, I hope he’s okay. You want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. I want that belt back. It’s my belt. It’s going to happen.”

Sidelined from active competition since he headlined UFC 260 back in 2021, Miocic most recently suffered a thunderous second round KO loss to Cameroonian heavy-hitter, Francis Ngannou in the pair’s championship rematch.

Jon Jones confirms plans to fight Stipe Miocic in UFC return from injury it will be him and I later on

As he prepares for a surgical procedure to address a pectoral tendon tear ahead of his Octagon return next month at UFC 295, incumbent heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has addressed his failed fight with ex-champion, Stipe Miocic, claiming he will be fighting the Ohio native in his immediate comeback to the sport.

Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight champion and current undisputed heavyweight champion, was slated to make his return to the Octagon next month in the main event of UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden, defending his heavyweight title in a homecoming clash with former two-time champion, Miocic in a long-awaited title affair.

However, earlier this week, UFC CEO, Dana White confirmed how Jones has been pulled from his November fight with Miocic, after tearing a pectoral tendon “off the bone” whilst wrestling ahead of his comeback bout.

And as a result, Miocic has also been pulled from the event, in favor of a makeshift interim title fight between Sergei Pavlovich, and Tom Aspinall in a new co-headlining bracket in New York City.

Over the course of the week to boot, the above-mentioned, White confirmed how the victor between Pavlovich and Aspinall would have to lay in wait to earn a shot against either Jones or Miocic – with the incumbent heavyweight champion now confirming his plan to fight the latter in his return from injury.

“I guess it will be Stipe (Miocic) and I at a later date, and that’s my plan,” Jon Jones said in a video posted on his official social media. “Hopefully, these other heavyweights, (Tom) Aspinall and Sergei (Pavlovich), put on a great show for you guys. I may even show up to the event [UFC 295] to watch. But, I love you all, and hey, your boy Jon Jones is doing OK.”

Snapping a three-year-plus hiatus from the sport back in March of this year, Endicott native, Jones scooped the vacant heavyweight title with a stunning opening round guillotine choke submission win over former interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

Following the cancellation of incumbent heavyweight champion, Jon Jones’ title fight defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 next month – according to promotional CEO, Dana White, the possibility of offering the former an interim title fight in order to keep him on the card was never considered.

Jones, the current undisputed heavyweight champion, was slated to make his comeback to the Octagon at UFC 295 next month at Madison Square Garden, taking on former two-weight champion, Miocic in New York City.

However, yesterday, the above-mentioned, White confirmed how Jones had suffered a pectoral tendon tear whilst training for his fight with Miocic, resulting in the cancellation of his championship bout.

And as a result, the promotion have since put together an interim championship pairing between the surging division challengers, Sergei Pavlovich, and Tom Aspinall in a co-main event bracket – while a vacant light heavyweight title fight between former gold holders, Jiri Prochazka, and Alex Pereira takes main event honors.

Dana White refuses interim title offer to Stipe Miocic at UFC 295

With Miocic now officially off the card with the view to booking him in a future title fight with Jones sometime in 2024, promotional boss, White claimed it would be a form of “complete disrespect” to offer the former two-time undisputed champion an interim title opportunity.

“Stipe’s (Miocic) not fighting for an interim title, you know what I mean?” Dana White told assembled media this week. “Jones said, ‘I wanna fight Stipe.’ I said, ‘You’re fighting Stipe.’ You have the greatest heavyweight of all time versus the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. This is a legacy fight for both of those guys.”

“I mean, to even call Stipe (Miocic) and ask Stipe to fight for an interim title is, you know, complete disrespect,” Dana White explained. “This is a fight for two legends, legacy, two of the greatest to ever do it. Fans wanna see it, I wanna see it, and they both wanna do it.”

Undisputed heavyweight champion, Jon Jones is officially out of next month’s championship fight against former titleholder, Stipe Miocic, after he suffered a tendon tear overnight whilst training ahead of his UFC 295 return, forcing the cancellation of their undisputed heavyweight championship bout.

And as per UFC CEO, Dana White, with Jones injured, Miocic has also been pulled from the Madison Square Garden card to boot, while an interim championship bout between surging Russian knockout artist, Sergei Pavlovich, and British heavyweight contender, Tom Aspinall has now been added to the New York City event.

Jon Jones forced off of UFC 295 card due to injury

Remaining on the card and receiving a promotion, Czech Republic native, Jiri Prochazka now takes on former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira in a vacant light heavyweight championship fight – now in a headlining bout.

“BREAKING NEWS……….. Sergei Pavlovich vs Tom Aspinall for the interim heavyweight championship,” Dana White posted on his official X account. “Main event is Jiri Prochazka vs Alex Pereira.”

As per promotional leader, White, Endicott native, Jon Jones is set for a period of up to 8 months on the sidelines, after he torn a tendon attached to his pectoral muscle whilst drilling wrestling ahead of his fight with Miocic next month at UFC 295, resulting in his removal from the card in New York.

Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight champion, had only returned from a three-year-plus hiatus from active competition back in March of this year, landing a vacant heavyweight championship triumph with a first round guillotine choke submission win over Ciryl Gane.

Ranked number two in the official heavyweight pile, Pavlovich has turned in six consecutive victories, most recently landing a first round knockout win over perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes in an April main event clash.

As for Atherton native, Aspinall, the number four rated challenger returned to the Octagon back in July, flattening Marcin Tybura with a blistering first round knockout in his return from a debilitating knee injury.
