Curtis Blaydes could very well be next in line for a heavyweight title opportunity. However, given the state of the division, any such opportunity would have to wait.

Currently, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is healing up from an injury after his title win over Daniel Cormier this past summer. A trilogy bout between Miocic and “DC” is the next planned heavyweight title fight, however, Miocic has also been lobbying for a crossover fight with boxing lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Blaydes said he can’t fault Miocic for going after the money fight. The money would be phenomenal for such an event.

“Apparently Stipe’s saying he’s interested in fighting Tyson Fury at boxing. That might put the DC trilogy on hold,” Blaydes said. “I don’t put no energy into it. I know what’s going on but I don’t stay up in bed all night and think about all the possible alternate realities. You never know.

“It’s a little bit chaotic, you just have to learn to live with it. I really, really respect Stipe. I understand he wants the money. It’s a money grab. I get it. He would destroy Tyson [in MMA]. It would be a lot of money. Pay-per-views would be out the wazoo.”

While Blaydes respects Miocic, he suggests a potential fight between Fury and Miocic would further delay his timeline for a title shot.

“I respect him and I get why he wants the money but at the same time it does affect my timeline of what I want to get done. I do feel some type of way about it but I’m not going to bash Stipe. I get it,” Blaydes said.

“I get that but then again I’m in the midst of my career and how long do I have to wait for a title shot? How many more money grab fights do I have to wait through before I get a shot?”

Kamil Krzaczynski for USA TODAY Sports

Blaydes will face Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC Raleigh in late January. Should he win that fight, and Miocic rematch Cormier next without a superfight against Fury, Blaydes likes his chances for a title shot.

“I’ll go with Stipe [to win] again,” Blaydes said. “Especially after both got a win under their belts, if they do fight again, the rounds are going to be a lot more explosive. They’ve both seen what the other one has and they won’t be as tentative. I still think Stipe’s the better striker and he definitely has the reach advantage.

“It all depends if DC goes in there with the mindset just to wrestle, he could probably win, but I think he has an ego. He wants to strike with Stipe and that will be his downfall. I would definitely love to see that happen [with me against Stipe] but right now I’m focused on JDS and we’ll go from there.”

What do you think about Blaydes waiting on a heavyweight title opportunity for so long? Does he deserve it?

There has been a lot of interest from many of the UFC’s heavyweights in fighting Tyson Fury. Fury, the lineal heavyweight champion in boxing, has teased a crossover to mixed martial arts (MMA).

“The Gypsy King” even recently underwent a training session with top-ranked middleweight Darren Till. However, Fury was recently asked about potentially boxing UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who has expressed interest in stepping into the ring with Fury.

Speaking in an interview recently, Fury said he’s down to box the UFC heavyweight champion, saying it could be a big crossover fight similar to that of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor.

“Stipe says he wants to box me, that would be a good fight for sure. After I get Wilder out of the way I’ll fight Stipe in a boxing match if he wants it,” Fury said.

“It would be a big crossover fight like Mayweather and McGregor. I’m open to that fight so he should come and see me. It would be the same outcome for any of them, they’ll all get smashed.”

Now, Miocic has taken to Twitter to send Fury another, very brief, message.

“let’s dance”

What do you think about a potential boxing match between Miocic and Fury?

Lineal boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is aware of Stipe Miocic’s desire to box him.

Much has been made about Fury saying he wants to dabble in the world of MMA. “The Gypsy King” said he was speaking with Conor McGregor about training for a potential MMA run. Fury took things one step further by actually training with UFC middleweight Darren Till.

Tyson Fury Accepts Stipe Miocic’s Challenge

While Fury has expressed interest in competing in MMA, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic actually wants to box Fury. “The Gypsy King” issued a statement through MTK Global.

“Stipe says he wants to box me, that would be a good fight for sure. After I get Wilder out of the way I’ll fight Stipe in a boxing match if he wants it. It would be a big crossover fight like Mayweather and McGregor.

“I’m open to that fight so he should come and see me. It would be the same outcome for any of them, they’ll all get smashed.

“It was exciting training with Darren Till and we get on like a house on fire, he put me through a hard training session and it was really good.”

Fury is scheduled to have a rematch with Deontay Wilder in early 2020. Wilder must first take care of business in his second matchup with Luis Ortiz on Nov. 23. As for Miocic, UFC president Dana White has said the promotion is looking to book the trilogy bout between Miocic and Daniel Cormier once the heavyweight champion fully heals.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is greatly interested in fighting boxing lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Fury has been teasing a run in the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage for some time now, even doing a training session with top-ranked UFC middleweight Darren Till.

Now, after catching the eye of Miocic, the UFC heavyweight king said he’s interested in fighting Fury – even in boxing. In fact, that fight interests him more than a potential trilogy with Daniel Cormier does.

“Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know,” Miocic said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday when asked if he though Fury was serious. “Good for him. But if he wants to step in the Octagon, I’d love it. I’ll step in the ring. I would love to box him. I would love to box him. He’s a great fighter. He’s a good dude, I think we’d put on a good show.”

Fury got the opportunity to respond to Miocic’s comments in an interview with MTK Global, his management firm. Fury noted he’s open to boxing Miocic after he faces Deontay Wilder next year. “The Gypsy King” believes it could be a massive combat sporting event similar to that of Mayweather vs. McGregor.

Fury also touched on his training session with Darren Till, noting his fellow countryman put him through a tough workout, and said they got along great.

“It was exciting training with Darren Till and we get on like a house on fire, he put me through a hard training session and it was really good,” Fury said.

Do you think the UFC would allow Miocic to box Fury?
