Leon Edwards, Jorge Masvidal

Leon Edwards bashed Jorge Masvidal for withdrawing from their scheduled matchup.

The second-ranked contender at welterweight is set to finally get his shot at the reigning UFC Pound-for-Pound king Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. Edwards has gone undefeated in his last ten bouts with his most recent win coming over Nate Diaz last June.

He was scheduled to face Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269 in December 2021 but the fight was canceled after ‘Gamebred’ withdrew due to an injury.

Leon Edwards labels Masvidal a “p*ssy”

In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Leon Edwards shared his thoughts on Masvidal pulling out of their contest. ‘Rocky’ labeled the Miami-native a “p*ssy” for not going through with the event, and still has a sense of resentment from the infamous ‘3 piece and a soda’ incident.

“I thought, you know p*ssy,” Edwards said. “I had a feeling he’d have done it, you know. I don’t think he wants to fight, and I’ve always said that he doesn’t want to fight me. Lastly, I would’ve loved for that fight to have happened.”

“I’ll give him the title shot, that’d be a fantastic fight in the UK. Bring it back to the O2 where it happened, for the title. That’s the one to do next, that’s the best.”

Edwards expressed his wish to win the title and then defend it in his home country of the UK against Masvidal.

“If that happens in the UK, sure. Like I said my dream scenario would be to bring it back to London and to headline London,” Edwards said. “So I want to come back home and then do it, so yeah.”

Edwards referenced the time Masvidal sucker-punched him in the face at UFC Fight Night in London back in 2019. Following an incredible knockout win over Darren Till, Masvidal got into the backstage brawl with Edwards and their rivalry has only heated since.

Michael Chandler believes he fractured his shinbone moments before delivering a jaw-dropping knockout against Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.

Chandler (23-7-0) stepped into the Octagon at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, AZ with the goal of getting back into the win column after a two-fight skid. In the process, Chandler provided the live audience and fans at home with a stunning first-round front-kick KO of ‘El Cucuy’.

While discussing the bout on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Chandler confirmed that his shinbone was likely fractured from one of the two kicks thrown that evening.

“God did not create our bones to crack up against each other like we do,” said Chandler. “I threw two kicks in that fight – one on Tony’s inside right leg as he was a southpaw. He switched stances and I hit him with a really hard low kick as well.”

“So [my] shinbone is jacked up, could have a fracture in there. My ankle has had some problems in the past. Obviously, the dislocated finger… it was definitely a hundred percent dislocated after having Dr. Davidson look at it,” Chandler said.

Michael Chandler’s Knockout Created a Scary Situation For Tony Ferguson Fans

Early in the fight, Ferguson appeared to have Chandler on the ropes as he landed clean causing Chandler’s right eye to swell significantly. Luckily for ‘Iron’ Mike, it only took 17 seconds of the second round for Chandler to send Ferguson crashing to the mat with a kick to the chin, reminiscent of Anderson Silva’s beloved front-kick to the face of Vitor Belfort at UFC 126.

‘El Cucuy’ remained unconscious for multiple minutes causing concern among fans. Thankfully Ferguson regained consciousness and was released from a local hospital following a CT scan that evening.

After his win, Michael Chandler had words with Nate Diaz on Twitter with the both seemingly agreeing to a bout slated for UFC 277 on July 30. The UFC has not commented on the potential bout as of yet.

Glover Teixeira

Newly crowned UFC light-heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira wasn’t surprised by his sensational performance against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267.

The 42-year Teixeira grabbed the admiration of fans and fighters alike after becoming UFC champion following a 19-year long career. The title came after a dominant performance over Blachowicz where Teixeira would secure the win over the favorite in the second round via submission.

The way in which Teixeira managed to run through Blachowicz who had been on an extremely impressive win streak was surprising to most but not the Brazilian.

“This is not gonna be an easy fight but I’m ready. I’m ready for whatever comes, there’s a man across the octagon with me and I have to beat him I can be world champion tonight,” Teixeira said on The MMA Hour. I didn’t think I was (going to) dominate and take him down that easy, again easy with respect, it was a quick takedown you know what I mean.”

Teixeira controlled Blachowicz for most of the first round and mid-way through the second, once Teixeira secured the takedown wasted no flattening out and submitting Blachowicz.

“So I stretch him to the ground, my cup is pressing on his back.” Teixeira told Ariel Helwani. “That’s a very uncomfortable pressure there and as soon as I put the hand, he tapped. “But I knew he wasn’t gonna go anywhere, so he probably knew that too.”

Glover Teixeira’s Long Road To UFC Gold

Teixeira’s title win comes seven years after he first challenged for the belt, when in 2014 when he took on Jon Jones and lost by decision. After this loss, which would be his first in the UFC, Teixeira would trade wins and losses with the best of the best in the organization, fighting the likes of Anthony Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson, and Rashad Evans.

Before his 2019 bout with Karl Roberson, Teixiera was 4-5 since the Jones fight and was heading towards the end of his career. Teixeira shared his thoughts about this time in his career, he said.

“For me not to be a champion, its missing something. I’m gonna do this, one last stretch I’m 40 years old, 39 years old I’ve got to start, like really focus on my camp off camp as well but just say you know what I’m gonna do this last stretch.”

Teixeira is now the champion on a six-fight win streak and took out top contenders Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos on his way to being the oldest person to win a UFC title for the first time.

“I was missing the belt, one day I could say I’m UFC champ and I was best in the world at one point, I can always say that”

Brunson Attributes Loss To Adesanya To Low-Rate Training Partners

Top-ranked middleweight Derek Brunson says he had less-than-ideal training partners in the lead-up to the highly publicized fight between Israel Adesanya. The two middleweights met in 2018. Top-ranked middleweight Derek Brunson says he had less-than-ideal training partners in the lead-up to the highly publicized fight between Israel Adesanya.

The two middleweights met in 2018. At the time, Brunson was proven in the UFC with plenty of first-round stoppages. However, Adesanya perhaps caught the middleweight at the best time as he was a little over ten months removed from being knocked out by Ronaldo Souza for the second time.

The #4-ranked Derek Brunson illuminated some of the problems he had during his first camp with Adesanya. For starters, the 185-pound middleweight claims he did not exactly have high-level training partners.

“I was training with soccer dads, firemen, police officers, janitors,” Brunson told The MMA Hour. “Like, that was who my training partners were. One UFC fight, I had a homeless guy I was training with. He used to be like an amateur boxer — a homeless guy. I tried to go find him after my fight and give him money, but I couldn’t find him. Nobody could find him.”

Apparently, Brunson moved on from those training partners, and the transition seems to have paid off. The 37-year-old started training with Sanford MMA, and the results speak for themselves.

Fast forward to 2021, and “Blonde Brunson” remains undefeated. The American has won his last three bouts and two by way of finish (1 submission and 1 TKO). It is hard to deny the results of Brunson’s handiwork as of late. With back-to-back wins against Kevin Holland and Darren Till, Brunson’s dominating pace and wrestling pressure have kept him busy at the top of 185-pounds.

As the showdown between Brunson and Jared Cannonier looms over UFC 270 in January, the results will certainly give way to a new contender ready to challenge for the middleweight throne.

Weili Zhang Believes Fans Are Against Her After Namajunas’ Comments

Rose Namajunas made remarks about communism before she bested Weili Zhang for gold back at UFC 261, and China’s Zhang believes it’s turning fans against her.

With the two scheduled for their rematch in the famed Madison Square Garden venue, Zhang believes she could be fighting more than “Thug” Rose when the two touch gloves on Nov. 6. Before their first encounter, Namajunas voiced an anti-communism slogan from the Cold War era, stating, “better dead than red”. The former champion maintains that the comments of Namajunas have caused fans, especially in North America, to turn against her.

During Zhang’s first title defense against Namajunas, the audience in Florida was booing her incessantly. Since UFC 261 was the first PPV with a full crowd since the pandemic shuttered much of the U.S., the audience was extra lively. Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Zhang mentioned that Rose’s comments affected her overall performance in their first outing.

“I think it definitely affected me a little bit,” Zhang said. “The comments that Rose made, I think she was successful in making the audience boo me. But I think that’s my own problem because I should be concentrating on the fight and not the audience. I can’t control who the audience likes. So I’m becoming more focused on my own fight.”

“In my mind, I think that, yes, those comments crossed the line because I think all the audience, all the fighters, we all come together in the UFC because we all share the passion of the MMA sport. In my mind, I’m coming here because I want to make friends because we all have the common love of martial arts. I think it’s not a good thing to mix sport with politics, but I think that’s maybe her plan. So in the beginning, I thought it was just kind of trash talk. Zhang said. It really didn’t affect me. But when I went out in the stadium and got booed, I think Rose wanted to use those comments to make the audience boo me.”

Zhang conceded responsibility for her knockout loss at UFC 261. Though, she insists that the fans did impact her performance. Initially, the former 115-pound titleholder thought the trash talk was a joke. But after hearing the crowd boo her, “Magnum” believes the comments were politically motivated to elicit a reaction. Even so, China’s Zhang will do her best to pay the political dialogue no mind ahead of her second UFC title shot.
