UFC 131 Results: Shane Carwin Treated in Emergency Room Following UFC 131 Loss

Bleacher Report’s Mike Hodges:

After picking up his second straight loss at UFC 131, Shane Carwin was transferred to a nearby hospital to undergo further evaluation on his injuries suffered during his bout with Junior dos Santos.

According to MMAWeekly.com, Carwin’s manager, Jason Genet, wrote via Twitter that Carwin had suffered a broken nose and three deep cuts, along with having to undergo a CT scan.

While it was no surprise that dos Santos was the superior striker, Carwin showed tremendous heart throughout the entire bout. The 250-pound Colorado native was knocked down early in the first round by the Brazilian, and appeared to be defeated, but he would continue to fight and remain in the bout.

UFC 131 Results: Dana White Furious with the Judges’ Discrepancies

Bleacher Report’s Todd Seyler:

ESPN.uk has reported that UFC President Dana White left the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, Canada angry and mystified over bizarre decisions by the judges at UFC 131.

Dana White and the UFC have attempted to minimize errors by the judges sitting cage-side by installing video monitors to improve on the accuracy of the decisions.

Unfortunately, even with the use of monitors and clear vision into the Octagon, White believes that grave errors in judgment resulted in obviously blown decisions by the judges.

In the night’s first bout, Darren Elkins was awarded the win over Michihiro Omigawa, much to the chagrin of Dana White who believes Omigawa won this lightweight matchup.

To further enrage White, one of the judges even awarded Elkins all three rounds over the Japanese star.

“One of the things I want to say—because you guys always hear me, and I did again tonight, smashing the judges—is the guy that was scoring 30-27, seriously?” White said. “I don’t know what the f*** in the world that guy was seeing. He should never judge a fight again, ever.”

The fight is months away, and the numbers will most likely adjust themselves over time, but Michael Bisping has opened as a big favorite over Jason “Mayhem” Miller for their upcoming fight at the finale show for The Ultimate Fighter Season 14.

Bisping, according to BetOnFighting.com, is a -225 favorite over the plus-185 “Mayhem” Miller.

UFC president Dana White broke the news that Bisping and Miller were selected to coach season 14 of the promotion’s reality show The Ultimate Fighter on the Underground.

Bisping is a former competitor and coach on TUF.  He won the third season of TUF, defeating Josh Haynes via second-round TKO. Bisping then returned to coach season nine of the show opposite Dan Henderson.

The fight between the two coaches at the end of that season did not end well for Bisping as Henderson knocked Bisping out in the second round, handing Bisping his first knockout loss and second overall loss of his career.

Bisping’s last fight was a second-round TKO win over Jorge Rivera at UFC 127.

Miller has had only one UFC fight in his career, a 2005 unanimous decision loss to Georges St-Pierre. He makes his return to the UFC with this coaching stint on TUF. Miller last fought in September of last year, earning a submission victory over Kazushi Sakuraba.

This season will be the first season that showcases the newest additions to the UFC’s weight classes when the first bantamweight and featherweight fighters step foot into the UFC gym and house in Las Vegas and fight to become the first “Ultimate Fighter” in their respective weight class.

So here it is, five things for this season of The Ultimate Fighter.
