In a bit of news that’s really not all that surprising, UFC Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone recently revealed that he and ex-MMA standout Tim Kennedy used to target and “destroy” Russian-Muslim fighters during their time together at JacksonWink MMA.
In a video clip recently released on Cerrone’s YouTube channel, the former lightweight title challenger claimed that Kennedy, who regularly competed as a middleweight inside the Octagon, would hone in on any Muslim fighters stepping into the gym, making it his priority to “do malicious sh*t” to them while ‘Cowboy’ cheered him on.
“The thing about Tim Kennedy is, he’s as American as apple pie. So when we were at [JacksonWink MMA] and any of the Russian-Muslim fighters would come in, Timmy would take it upon himself to just take down, smother, and absolutely destroy these dudes.
“I’d be sitting there going, ‘Get them Tim’. He would annihilate them and I’d love it. He would smile and laugh and rub their face in the mat. He’d do malicious sh*t. I’d be like, ‘F**k yeh, Tim, that’s what I’m talking about’. He’d come back and be like, ‘I hate them’. I’d say, ‘Me too. I hate them but there’s nothing I can do, I’m 155 pounds, that dude is 200 pounds, and you’ve just destroyed him.’”
MMA Fans slam ‘cowboy’ Cerrone and Tim Kennedy
As expected, Cerrone’s comments did not sit well with MMA fans who were quick to accuse the pair of being jealous of the success of Dagestani fighters.

Former UFC middleweight contender Tim Kennedy woke up on Wednesday and decided to break out a can of 10-year-old beef.
Kennedy, who was once a prominent name in the division after making a name for himself under the Strikeforce banner is still a little salty about a decade-old fight between himself and Yoel Romero.
After an impressive four-year stint in Strikeforce, Kennedy made his UFC debut in 2013 and promptly rattled off three-straight wins over Roger Gracie, Rafael Natal, and Michael Bisping. That streak led him to a big divisional matchup with Romero at UFC 178. Kennedy clearly lost the opening round, but he stormed back in the second, lighting up the ‘Soldier of God’ with a flurry of strikes.
In between the second and third rounds, there was some confusion that ultimately led to Romero being allowed to sit on his stool for longer than the traditional 60 seconds of allotted time between each round. With more time to recover, Romero came surging back in the third and finished Kennedy less than a minute into the final round.
Tim Kennedy was left fuming and apparently, a decade later, he’s still not over it.
“Robbery anniversary and the end of my fight career,” Kennedy wrote on X. “Dear Nevada Athletic Commission. NAC 467.728 If a combatant fails or refuses to resume competing when the bell sounds … the referee shall award a decision of TKO.”
Former UFC Ref John McCarthy Offers Explanation to Tim Kennedy
Kennedy’s comments didn’t go unnoticed by legendary UFC referee, and the man who just happened to be overseeing Kennedy’s fight with Romero that night, ‘Big’ John McCarthy.
Responding to Kennedy’s comments on social media, McCarthy offered a lengthy explanation for what happened that evening and why Romero was allowed to continue after taking longer than the allowed time.
“Tim you are an amazing person and I truly wish the very best life has to offer both you and your family,” McCarthy wrote. “Perhaps I could of done something differently during your fight. I wish I had the forethought to envision this exact situation before it ever occurred and that way I may have handled it differently.
“But you are not stating facts about what occurred. Yoel was told to stay seated by the NSAC Inspector. The truth is the Cutman hired and paid for by the UFC did not re-enter the cage when summoned to do so and that is what held up the start of the 3rd round. It is not Yoel’s fault that this occurred and the Cutman is not part of Yoel’s official corner. Language barriers did not help as well.
It’s egregious to penalize a person when they are not at fault and that is why there were no point deductions nor DQ. Was it completely fair to you? No I don’t believe it was, but there are times when there is no perfect solution in the moment. I hope the very best for you in all that you do.”
Most UFC fans were quick to suggest that Yoel Romero had intentionally milked the clock to allow himself more time to recover, but with McCarthy offering up his explanation, do you see it differently now?

Former UFC middleweight contender and Strikeforce alum, Tim Kennedy, has revealed he was the subject of an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) scare, after partaking in a sex orgy with a ring card girl, who had tested positive herself.
Kennedy, a native of San Luis Obispo, last featured professionally at UFC 206 in 2016, suffering a third round knockout loss against former interim middleweight title challenger, Kelvin Gastelum.
Calling time on his professional career following the stoppage loss to Gastelum, Kennedy retired from professional mixed martial arts competition boasting a 18-6 professional record.
In his most recent professional triumph, Kennedy landed a unanimous decision win over former undisputed middleweight champion, Michael Bisping – landing a victory in the main event of UFC Fight Night Quebec City in 2014.
Kennedy, who has remained a vocal voice in the mixed martial arts community amid his 2016 retirement from the sport, revealed recently during an appearance on The 38 Challengepodcast, how he was the subject of a HIV scare after taking part in a sex orgy with a ring card girl.
“Had a couple women pregnant, and had an orgy after a fight,” Tim Kennedy said. “One of the ring girls that was there tested positive for HIV. So then she tracked down all of her former partners. I was one of a litany of them. She walks into the gym and is like, ‘Hey, I’m HIV positive, and you should get tested.’”
“It wasn’t actually like you’re positive or negative,” Tim Kennedy explained. “It was, ‘We’re gonna take some white blood cells counts over a few months to see if you are losing your immunity’. So that sucked.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
Tim Kennedy competed 24 times professionally in MMA
Over the course of his 24 fight professional career, Kennedy has defeated the likes of Jason Miller, Zak Cummings, Melvin Manhoef, Robbie Lawler, Roger Gracie, Rafael Natal, and the aforenoted, Bisping.

After Brittney Griner’s recent plea for help, Tim Kennedy took to social media to point out Griner’s ironic past and “despicable” behavior.
Griner recently penned a letter to US President, Joe Biden, asking for aid. In the letter, Griner stated she was “terrified”, and feels she might be held prisoner “forever.”
This caught the attention of former UFC fighter and army veteran, Tim Kennedy, who had some qualms with Griner and her previous history of protesting the American government.
“Do you remember that time that you were protesting your own government and even requesting that the National Anthem not be played at your games then going back to this same government and pleading that they intervene on your behalf to get you out of a Russian prison after you illegally brought drugs into their country…. Does not get more ironic than this.”
Despite Seeing Griner’s Behaviour As “Despicable”, Tim Kennedy Hopes For Her Release
Tim Kennedy’s issue with Griner goes back to last year’s Black Lives Matter protests where many athletes and individuals showed their displeasure with the current state of America by kneeling during the National Anthem. Kennedy, having served in the US army since 2004, saw this as disrespectful.
Despite this, Kennedy wishes the best for her as she is still an American, at the end of the day.
“Even with her despicable behavior, I do believe that every American is worth fighting for even those that hate their own country.”
Griner was arrested for drug charges in Russia back on Feb 17th of this year. Federal security allegedly found a vaporizer pen containing hash oil, or marijuana, which is considered illegal in Russia. Since then, Griner has been kept in a detention center as her trial is ongoing.
Her situation has an extra layer of complication as Russia continues its war against Ukraine. Many believe that the real reason behind Griner’s arrest is to use her as a political prisoner to exchange for imprisoned Russian figures in America.
Griner plead guilty to the drug charges in the second hearing, and if convicted, she could face up to ten years in a Russian cell.
