Former UFC fighter Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson (11-4) has been plagued by failed welterweight weight cuts for several years and eventually culminated in his dismissal from the top promotion after failing to make weight at middleweight last January at UFC 142.
Johnson weighed in at 197-lbs for his bout with Vitor Belfort in Brazil, and following a loss to ‘The Phenom’, ‘Rumble’ was released from the UFC.
Johnson then went on to sign with Titan Fighting Championships and fought at a 195-lbs catchweight in his debut after another failed bid to fight at middleweight.
Now the current Blackzillian team member is ready to try his hand at light heavyweight.
Speaking to MMAWeekly.com, Johnson said it was “now or never” for a move to 205-lbs.
“I sat down with my coaches and we just decided that 205 would be best for me. That way I can perform even better and I don’t have much to worry about, if anything. We’re excited about it and I feel good about it already. I already feel like I have more energy, more strength, and I’m excited about it.”
…
“It’s like it’s either now or never. Now’s the time and I’ve just got to run with it. Each camp I feel a little bit better, I keep improving, doing better things inside the gym, and outside of the gym. Everything is progressing more and more even though I’ve had my ups and downs,” Johnson said.
“I know I can fight at 205, that won’t be a problem. Cause I have the size, speed and the strength for it. I probably should have been fighting 205 a long time ago, but just being me thinking I can do it all, making dumb decisions, maturing, it’s going to work out.”

Friday night saw the live HDNet broadcast of the Titan Fighting Championship 23: “Fight for the Troops” event from the Marshall Army Airfield in Fort Riley, Kansas.
The live telecast featured a six bout main card and was headlined by a middleweight matchup featuring former Sengoku champion Jorge ‘The Sandman’ Santiago and Colorado middleweight Justin ‘The Pain Train’ Guthrie, who carried a five fight win streak into the match.
Santiago made short work of his opponent landing an inverted heel-hook submission in the first round to end things at 1:34. It was ‘The Sandman’s’ second win with TFC since his KO finish of Leonardo Pecenha last March at 1:48 of the first. That’s two wins for the Blackzilian fighter since his dismissal from the UFC after losing both of his appearances.
After the bout, the longtime middleweight talked of dropping to 170-lbs. “I’ve seen some of Guthrie’s fights and had planned for it. This is my last fight at 185 pounds. I want to drop to 170.”
The co-main event for TFC 23 saw featherweight Joe ‘The Nose’ Wilk extend his win streak to five with a quick win in the first round after landing a guillotine choke on Josh Huber.

The weight cutting problems for former UFC welterweight Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson (10-4) keep piling up for the fighter as reports have surfaced that Johnson was far from making the 186-lbs cutoff for his middleweight Titan Fighting Championship 22 bout versus David Branch.
The two fighters have agreed to meet in a 195-lbs catchweight bout for the event, which was confirmed by Branch’s manager Ali Abdei-Aziz.
“Both of them made weight, they agreed to fight at 195lbs,” Abdel-Aziz told MMAWeekly.com on Thursday. “This is going to be an amazing fight.”
According to promoter Joe Kelly, who spoke on Thursday’s edition of Bloody Elbow Radio, both fighters had signed catchwieght contracts with Johnson weighing in at 194.2-lbs and Branch weighing 189.2-lbs.
Johnson is notorious for missing weight, having missed weight for several welterweight matches in the Octagon in the past. His most notorious missed weight debacle, his last fight in fact, was his middleweight debut versus Vitor Belfort last January at UFC 142 when Johnson weighed in at 197-lbs for the 185-lbs affair.
Belfort agreed to a catchweight bout and subsequently submitted ‘Rumble’ in the first round.
Anthony Johnson has had issues making weight in the past, coming in 12 pounds over for his fight at UFC 142. That failed cut cost him his job and he looks to rebound at Titan 22 this Saturday in Kansas City.
