UFC 132 will take place on July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The fight card will close out a run of six straight weekends of UFC/Strikeforce fight cards.

The main event at UFC 132 will feature the promotion’s first bantamweight title fight, as champion Dominck Cruz (17-1)  looks to avenge the only loss of his career when he faces off against former WEC champion Urijah Faber (25-4). Cruz lost to Faber back in March 2007, falling via first round submission in a bout that saw Faber successfully defend his WEC featherweight title.

Also competing on the main card will be Wanerlei Silva (30-10-1-1). The “Axe Murderer”  makes his return to the Octagon after a prolonged time away due to injury rehab. Silva will jump right back into the fray, facing Chris Leben (25-7). Silva has not fought since he defeated Michael Bisping in February 2010. Leben is coming off a loss to Brian Stann on New Year’s Day 2011.

Also on the main card, Tito Ortiz (15-8-1) will look to win his first fight since defeating Ken Shamrock in October 2006. Ortiz is in a must win situation, as he has been informed by UFC president Dana White that this will be his last chance with the organization. Standing in Ortiz’s way will be Ryan Bader (12-1), whose only loss came at the hands of current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

UFC 132 Fight Card: Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber Fight Breakdown

Bleacher Report’s Jonathan R.R. Clarke:

Yes, the time is close, for Dominick Cruz to defend his Bantamweight title against Urijah Faber on July 2 at UFC 132.

In all honesty, this Bantamweight bout isn’t going to get the whole MMA world overexcited initially.

Recently the UFC has come under heavy criticism for their lackluster main events which have failed to impress of late. The Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields fight was overshadowed by some much better battles that night (Mark Hominick and Jose Aldo spring to mind). UFC 132’s main event however should prove to be a more exciting clash between Cruz and Faber.

Let’s take a look at how the fight might unfurl round by round.

UFC 132: Did Chris Leben Bite Off More Than He Can Chew In Wanderlei Silva?

Bleacher Report’s Andrew Barr:

UFC 132 is a stacked card with many potentially exciting fights, but there is one bout fans are expecting to steal the show: Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva vs. Chris “The Crippler” Leben.

Both men have a reputation for never taking a step back and throwing bombs. They are two of the most aggressive fighters in the history of MMA and, win or lose, they always put on a good show for the fans.

However, the question running through many people’s minds is: Is Chris Leben ready for a fighter like Wanderlei Silva?

Leben has been fighting in the UFC’s middleweight division for a long time, but he has never been able to elevate himself above gatekeeper status.

Wanderlei has only fought once in the UFC’s middleweight division, but is one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists ever and has fought many all-time greats.

Tito Ortiz’s career has been in a nose dive…if you look at just his record over the past five years.

He has not won a fight in his past five fights and is riding a three-fight losing skid.

Earlier in his career, Ortiz was carrying the flag for MMA as he was the reigning light-heavyweight champion and defended his title a record five times.

Clearly he has fallen on much harder times.

His detractors are also quick to point out that his last two victories were over a washed-up fighter in Ken Shamrock.

While Ortiz does have a lot to prove if he wants to be relevant, he is not as washed up as people make him out to be.

He may not be winning, but if you look closely at his last five fights, he has only been stopped by one man and the 36-year old former-champion still has quite a bit of fight left in him.

Tito Ortiz Not Ready to Retire, Would Have Liked an Easier Opponent

Tito Ortiz faces Ryan Bader at UFC 132 with the stress that his job is on the line. In a three part blog, ESPN presents Ortiz in his own words. Tito reminds us that he.

Tito Ortiz faces Ryan Bader at UFC 132 with the stress that his job is on the line. In a three part blog, ESPN presents Ortiz in his own words. Tito reminds us that he should be respected as a pioneer in the UFC brand and that he is “The Last of the Mohicans“. He also explains that he hasn’t exactly lost all his fights since 2006 (even though his fight record may reflect straigh losses). Ortiz says he broke down those last few fights to Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta and thinks he earned their respect to keep fighting, which is why he was given another shot after his loss to Matt Hamill. He admits he would have liked an easier opponent than Ryan Bader but accepts the top challenges for the top dollar he gets paid.

Excerpts from his blog below:

After Chuck Liddell beat me in December 2006, I took on Rashad Evans, who went on to be a world champion and has lost only once since. And I beat him. It was only a “draw” because I got a point taken off for the one, single time when I grabbed the fence. It was a draw, but I was the better fighter in the cage. I won.

Then I fought Lyoto Machida, a great fighter who also went on to win the world title. I almost caught him in a triangle and tapped him out. He admitted he thought he was going to pass out. I lost and it sucked, but I was competitive.

Next was a rematch with Forrest Griffin, whom I beat earlier in our careers. I didn’t get the decision this time, but a lot of people felt I won two rounds to one. Again, I was more than competitive with a top-5 guy.

My last fight, against Matt Hamill in October, I lost. It was totally my bad; I didn’t prepare for his takedowns because I didn’t think he’d be able to take me down. Real dumb, my bad, and I am still pissed at myself.

But, again, I am not getting dominated. I’m not getting knocked out like Liddell was late in his career. I am still competitive with the very best guys in the division and haven’t taken a step down in competition since the day I lost my belt in 2003.

I think Dana respected that I had the fire to say, “Hell no, I don’t want to retire! I want to fight!” and argued that I should fight on. So they’re giving me this shot against Ryan Bader, another top-5 guy who has only ever lost to [current UFC light heavyweight champion] Jon Jones.

Would I have liked Dana to give me an easier opponent? Sure! But, hey, they pay me top-attraction money, so I get top-attraction guys …

I’m the Last of the Mohicans. Out of the fighters who helped build the UFC from what it was in the 1990s to what it is now in 2011, they’re all gone except for me. Chuck Liddell has retired; Randy Couture has retired. I’m the last man standing, and now everyone thinks Ryan Bader is going to put me down, too.

I don’t want to go. I’m not going to go. I am going to push the pace and win this fight July 2. My back is right against wall. I’m coming out swinging.
