“I think I can beat Jon Jones,” Ortiz
said. “I think I have a good chance – I really do think I’ve got a good chance.
If people say, ‘Oh, Tito, (expletive), you’re over the hill,’ whatever. Come to
my camp. Come train with me. Come wrestle with me. Come do jiu-jitsu with me.
Watch my weight training. Watch my biking and stairs that I do. I push myself
harder than I pushed myself through my whole career. I’m doing amazing. My mind
is in the right place, my body is in the right place.”

Ortiz even went as far to tell the media
his game plan should a fight ever materlise between him and Jones.

“Come on, why wouldn’t I? Pressure,
pressure, pressure. You stay in that angle, the outside reach of him, you’ve
got problems with it. You can’t just sit there and play his game.”

Whatever the outcome “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” believes Jones cannot be considered the greatest of all time due to his several indiscretions inside and outside of the cage.

“He could be the best ever, but I mean, could have – not anymore,” Ortiz
said. “He tarnished his career so many times, so much stuff that he did in and
out of the cage it just – God, it bums me out because I love the guy, man. He
was one of the best light heavyweights to ever grace the octagon.”

The 44-year-old is clearly flying high after recording back-to-back wins over Chael Sonnen and Chuck Liddell. Ortiz is currently scheduled to face former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio in a 201lb catchweight bout. The fight will headline Combate Americas pay-per-view event on December 7 in Texas.

Has Tito Ortiz totally lost his mind or does he actually have a chance?

Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen’s bad blood remains very much intact. The longtime rivals are still taking shots at each other to this day, despite the fact that one of them is retired.

Ortiz celebrated Sonnen’s TKO defeat to Lyoto Machida earlier this year, where “The Bad Guy” subsequently announced his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. As for Ortiz, he’s gearing up to fight former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio (also known as Alberto El Patron) in the headliner of an upcoming Combate Americas show in December.

Speaking to Rich Eisen recently to promote the fight, Ortiz touched on his longtime rivalry with Sonnen. Here’s what he had to say (H/T MMA Fighting)

“Chael Sonnen. That guy he just . . . I dislike that man,” Ortiz said. “He’s just something else. Some who talks and talks and talks and has never done anything in this sport besides talk. That’s what he does for a living. He should’ve stayed to that and I guess he is staying to it [since] he’s retired now. He said some very personal things about me and I’m a very emotional man, I’m a very loyal man, and when you talk about a person’s family I take it to heart.

“It’s my blood and I kind of let him have it a little bit. If people go on YouTube and watch Tito Ortiz Uncaged, he said a couple things about me and was talking about me putting on my championship belt and I had to let him have it, full bore. It wasn’t just a little, it was full bore. I put him out for who he really was and he never said another word about me.”

Of course, it didn’t take Sonnen long to respond, as he mocked Ortiz’s upcoming fight with El Patron on Twitter.

What do you think about Ortiz’s comments on Sonnen and Sonnen’s response?

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz will be fighting under the Combate Americas banner in December.

Ortiz takes on former mixed martial artist and longtime professional wrestling star Alberto Del Rio (also known as Alberto El Patron). The fight goes down from Hidalgo, Texas on December 7. Speaking to Bloody Elbow recently, Ortiz discussed his current run with Combate Americas, noting he actually has a couple of fights on his contract with them.

He then added an interesting tidbit, claiming Combate’s Campbell McLaren has spoken to former UFC heavyweight champion, and newly-acquired WWE star, Cain Velasquez. Velasquez is apparently interested in fighting the winner of Ortiz vs. El Patron. Ortiz is open to it if he can meet Velasquez at 205 or 210 pounds.

“It’s not a one and done deal with Combate. I signed a three fight, two year contract with them. So there will be a fight after,” Ortiz said. “Campbell [McLaren] actually talked to Cain Velasquez and he said he’d like the winner of this. If Cain Velasquez can get to 205, I’m in. If he can make it to 210 I’m in.”

As for his matchup with El Patron, Ortiz isn’t giving the former WWE Champion much of a chance against him inside the cage.

“His chances in the fight are pretty much slim to none,” Ortiz said. “I’ll give him that puncher’s chance. He’s a big guy. I didn’t realize how big he was until we came face-to-face.”

What do you think about Ortiz claiming Velasquez could fight in Combate Americas?
