Tito Ortiz returns to fight Alberto Del Rio December 7 as the two fighters are featured as the main event of the upcoming Combate Americas event.

The Hispanic mixed martial arts (MMA) organization has UFC pioneer Ortiz and WWE legend Del Rio making media appearances for the “Winner Take All” bout. Stakes have begun to heat up between the two. Most notably, during their most recent face-off. MMA Mania has video of Ortiz shoving Del Rio, which led to a friendly exchange of words between the two fighters.

Despite being in the UFC Hall of Fame, Ortiz is now 44-years-old and is far removed from his prime. Ortiz was last seen in his controversial trilogy bout with rival Chuck Lidell just last November. The event was scrutinized and did low PPV numbers estimated at around 40,000.

Ortiz is looking for even more luck this time around as the upcoming PPV event in Hidalgo, Texas has belt implications. The heavily favored Ortiz will be putting his UFC light heaveight championship on the line. On the other hand, Albert Del Rio will be bringing his own WWE belt to the table.

Oddsmakers currently have Del Rio as a +525 underdog. Ortiz comes back as a -725 favorite. Despite being known for his work in the WWE, Del Rio has a 9-5 MMA record. In fact, all nine of his wins have been via stoppage. However, it has been nine years since the 42-year-old has fought in a cage with no script.

One individual who sees nothing but success for Ortiz vs Del Rio is Combate Americas CEO, Campbell McLaren. (H/T The Monitor)

“This is a one-of-a-kind, larger than life – one of the greatest MMA superstars of all time, facing off with one of professional wrestling’s most decorated champions and an accomplished MMA fighter in his own right.

“On top of all of that, these two legends are putting their belts where their mouths are. It’s the type of fight that comes around once or twice in a lifetime.”

Whether or not McLaren’s lofty expectations for Ortiz vs. Del Rio are met are to be determined.

Will the upcoming Combate Americas PPV event sell better than Liddell Ortiz 3?

Aside from all of the phenomenal matchups on the card, UFC 244 garnered a lot of attention this past weekend due to the presence of United States President Donald Trump.

Trump was cageside for Saturday night’s big event, and witnessed first hand the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship main event between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. One notable mixed martial arts (MMA) pundit who is a supporter of President Trump, is Tito Ortiz.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Ortiz noted he was happy to see the President in attendance for the Madison Square Garden show.

“It was nice to see the President continue to support our sport not just as the President, but as a businessman before becoming the President,” Ortiz said.

“He’s been a good, close friend of Dana, and I saw an interview of Dana with the President, and me and Dana don’t see eye-to-eye sometimes, but what (Dana) said (about Trump’s importance to the UFC in the early days) was the truth.”

Ortiz is set to return to the cage on December 7 under the Combate Americas banner. He’ll face ex-WWE star Alberto Del Rio, where both men will put up their respective historic titles for grabs. Del Rio will put up his old WWE Title, while Ortiz will put up his UFC Championship.

As for his support of Trump, Ortiz has been a supporter since his appearance on “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2005, which Trump used to host.

“I think being the headliner at Trump Taj Mahal gave him the idea of mixed martial arts and of Tito Ortiz, because in 2005 I did the ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’” Ortiz said.

“He gave me the opportunity to show what the hard work of being an apprentice is. He gave me the opportunity to be on his show asking questions of business, and I did that. I’m thankful for that. I was able to raise over $100,000 for my charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.”

What do you make of Ortiz’s reaction to Trump’s UFC 244 appearance?

ESPN’s “30 For 30” documentary series took it’s focus to the Octagon last month with their Chuck and Tito documentary. The film chronicles the importance of the friendship turned rivalry between Chuck Lidell and Tito Ortiz. A rivalry which helped catapult the UFC into the mainstream.

Highlighted in the documentary were the two UFC showdowns between the light heavyweight legends. Liddell defeated his former teammate Ortiz with back-to-back TKOs. However, the feud didn’t close without a controversial trilogy bout just last year, where Liddell controversially came out of retirement at age 48 and fought Ortiz for the third time. Ortiz won via KO in the first round. It was hinted at the end of the “30 For 30” that Liddell could potentially fight again.

Given Liddell’s age and ending to his UFC career, many were against the trilogy bout in the first place. One individual in particular against the fight and perhaps most notably was Dana White. White appeared on TMZ and voiced his opinion on the matter. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Chuck Liddell is 50-years-old and should not be fighting. And he’s a grown man and can do whatever he wants to do, but let me tell you what. The commission who sanctions that fight… wow.” White continued.

“I love him, I respect him. The crazy thing is, all the reasons we love Chuck Liddell are the same reasons he wants to fight. To his core he’s a fighter, it’s what he loves to do, (but) that third fight should have never happened.”

Liddell is, and always will be, a legend of the sport, but the UFC president and friend in Dana White has no interest in seeing Liddell in another MMA contest again.

Do you think Liddell should hang his MMA gloves up for good?
