Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz recently signed a deal with Combate Americas.

The contract is said to be a multi-fight deal with Ortiz expected to make his debut this fall. No opponent has been officially named for “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy,” however, the rumors have already begun to swirl. The favorite is reportedly former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio.

Del Rio has been affiliated with the Combate Americas promotion for several years. He once served as the promotion’s president before later stepping down from the position. Del Rio actually has a legitimate background in mixed martial arts (MMA). The Mexican star has a record of 9-5, and even once fought the legendary Mirko Cro Cop.

He hasn’t fought since 2010 when he was knocked out in the second round by Yamamoto Hanshi. Wrestling Observer Radio and MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer recently mentioned the rumor. It was noted that Del Rio actually revealed last year he was planning a return to fighting sometime this year.

Should he be matched up with Ortiz, it will certainly be interesting to see how that match-up plays out at this point in their respective athletic careers.

Despite numerous teases of retirement, Tito Ortiz just can’t seem to keep himself away from the mixed martial arts (MMA) game.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” has inked a multi-fight deal with the Combate Americas promotion. Ortiz is expected to make his promotional debut this fall, but no opponent has been named as of this writing. The news was first reported by Fansided’s Amy Kaplan, who caught video of Ortiz signing his deal:

At 44-years-old, Ortiz is currently on a two-fight win streak. He was at one point on a three-fight losing streak during his final days in the UFC, leaving the promotion in 2012. In 2014, Ortiz signed with Bellator MMA, going on a two-fight win streak before suffering his first loss under the promotion’s banner to Liam McGeary for the light heavyweight title.

Two years later, Ortiz returned to face Chael Sonnen in 2017. He won the fight with his longtime rival via first-round submission. Ortiz contemplated retirement after his rear-naked choke victory, but again came back out to fight this past November. He controversially fought 49-year-old Chuck Liddell, Ortiz’s former UFC rival, in the Golden Boy MMA debut show fronted by Oscar De La Hoya.

Ortiz brutalized Liddell with a first-round knockout, against an “Iceman” who looked like he had absolutely no business being inside the cage. He again teased retirement after the fight, but has now opted to continue on with Combate Americas.

Tito Ortiz reveals a target date for his next pro-MMA fight despite the belief that he was retired from the sport.

Ortiz announced his official retirement as an active pro-MMA fighter following his latest fight that took place in 2018 but that isn’t sticking.

Ortiz was able to score a first-round knockout victory over Chuck Liddell last year in their third fight inside The Forum in Inglewood, California on pay-per-view. Following the fight, Ortiz retired as he was looking for a landing spot with Oscar De La Hoya in Golden Boy Promotions.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion noted in a recent interview that he’d most likely fight in October. Regarding which promotion that he’ll fight for next remains to be seen. Same goes for his opponent.

“I’ll probably fight in October,” Ortiz told TMZ. “After I fought Chuck last year, I thought it was gonna be my last one. But, my body’s intact, everything’s fast, everything’s great. Sparring’s been good. Training’s been great. So, let’s do one for fun.”

His accomplishments speak for themselves as he is a UFC Hall of Famer and has fought the biggest names in MMA. He holds wins over the likes of Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort, Rashad Evans, Evan Tanner, Jerry Bohlander, Guy Mezger, Ken and Frank Shamrock, Forrest Griffin and Lyoto Machida.

Back in 2000, he beat Wanderlei Silva for the vacant light heavyweight title. Three years later, he dropped the title to Couture after defending the title five times.
