The beef between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling continues.
It’s no secret that Yan and Sterling don’t like each other. The pair have exchanged barbs on social media since before their fight last March. When the highly-touted bout ended with Yan landing an illegal knee and people questioning the extent of the injury suffered by Sterling, the feud only heated up. Both fighters have had a lot to say to the other on social media since that night but according to Sterling‘s interview with Ariel Helwani, Yan recently blocked the American grappler.
“For me, it’s kind of a weird relationship that we have. He blocked me on Instagram. I’m kinda sad about that. Petr, you gotta unblock me so I can talk shit you. You can’t post shit and then when I hit back, you get mad and then block me. What kinda feminine trait is that, right?”
Yan Vs. Sterling 2 Is Next
Maybe Yan wanted to avoid his former foe as he focused on his interim title fight with Cory Sandhagen last week at UFC 267. Yan and Sandhagen threw down over five rounds in one of the more technical bouts in recent memory. Yan came out with the interim bantamweight champion after 25 minutes of war. Though, many feel “No Mercy” is seen by many is the undisputed champ.
Sterling has sat on the sidelines since his D.Q. victory over Yan. “The Funkmaster” was expected to rematch the Russian last week before a lingering neck injury caused Sterling to withdraw. According to Dana White, Yan will meet Sterling to unify the titles next. Once this drawn-out drama is settled, the UFC president claims that TJ Dillashaw will be next for the winner.
Who do you think takes the second fight between Yan and Sterling?

UFC interim bantamweight champion Petr Yan took the time to check in on his bantamweight colleague, TJ Dillashaw in a blunt way.
Yan is fresh off his largely dominant performance against Cory Sandhagen for the interim bantamweight title at UFC 267. He blitzed Sandhagen in an instant classic between the two dynamic strikers en route to a unanimous decision victory.
Yan was supposed to face Aljamain Sterling for a title rematch before Sterling pulled out of the fight due to lingering health issues. Dillashaw was thought by many to be the ‘next man up’ for a matchup with Yan, but Dillashaw underwent knee surgery and has been sidelined from the competition.
Dillashaw has been the target of many around the UFC community after his two-year suspension for PED use. He returned earlier this year in a fight with Sandhagen, squeaking out a split decision win. As Yan awaits an anticipated rescheduling with Sterling, he took the time to roast Dillashaw on social media.
Petr Yan, TJ Dillashaw Could Be On A Collision Course At Bantamweight
“How’s your recovery going old cheater? [TJ Dillashaw]” Yan tweeted Tuesday.
Dillashaw has also alleged that he’s next in line for the bantamweight title shot despite Yan earning the interim belt, claims that have been shut down by UFC president Dana White. Before he was served with his lengthy suspension, Dillashaw was one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, earning the bantamweight title and also challenging for the flyweight belt.
Yan earned the bantamweight belt over Jose Aldo before losing it controversially to Sterling at UFC 259. With his recent win over Sandhagen, Yan appears back in the driver’s seat at 135 pounds and could face Dillashaw sooner rather than later.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan will look for revenge against Aljamain Sterling next, but TJ Dillashaw is expected to get the winner.
Yan beat Cory Sandhagen in a largely dominant performance in many eyes at UFC 267, earning a unanimous decision victory in a striking battle from start to finish. He lost the belt to Sterling at UFC 259 after landing an illegal knee late in the fight, resulting in a disqualification.
Yan and Sterling were supposed to meet at UFC 267 before Sterling pulled out due to lingering neck issues. With the win over Sandhagen, Yan will battle Sterling again at a later date, after rumors of Dillashaw getting the next title shot surged on social media.
During his UFC 267 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White was blunt in stating that Sterling would be facing Yan next in a title unification bout. In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, White double-down on that stance but with an added twist.
“You do the Sterling fight, you get that over with, and then whoever wins would fight Dillashaw.”
Dillashaw seemed confident during a recent The MMA Hour appearance that he would be next in line for the title after defeating Sandhagen earlier this year, and that now appears to indeed be the plan in spite of Sterling/Yan being next. Dillashaw underwent knee surgery earlier this fall and is planning a UFC return for sometime next year.
Before the disqualification, Yan looked like he was going to coast to a victory against Sterling at UFC 259. He stopped Sterling’s grappling attacks while landing some powerful combinations with his signature boxing.
Dillashaw made his return to the Octagon against Sandhagen after a two-year suspension for PEDs. He was the UFC’s bantamweight champion and a flyweight title challenger against Henry Cejudo before his long hiatus from the Octagon.
The UFC’s bantamweight division continues to be arguably the most stacked group in the sport. Former undisputed champions Yan and Dillashaw will now look to grab Sterling’s throne atop the 135-pound division.
What are your thoughts on the state of the UFC’s bantamweight division?
Cory Sandhagen wants redemption. Sandhagen’s only two losses since joining the UFC have come at the hands of some high-profile opponents. “The Sandman” lost a title eliminator to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 250, and more recently, the bantamweight contender came out on the wrong end of a split-decision against TJ Dillashaw in July. In a recent interview, when asked about the possibility of facing off against Dillashaw again should Sterling still be out with neck injuries, Sandhagen claims he has heard nothing about a Dillashaw rematch. However, it could happen depending on how Sterling’s recovery goes.
“Yeah, I’ve definitely thought of that,” Sandhagen said of a potential Dillashaw rematch next. “I can’t wait to rematch the two of those guys because I just really wanna solidify that I’m the best in the division and I think another rematch against TJ where I get to critique just a couple things that I was maybe making a little bit of mistakes on and kinda just redoing the Sterling fight, man, and showing up a lot more for that one than I did in the first fight.
“So yeah, just excited for both of those rematches. But no, the UFC hasn’t said anything about who’s gonna be next. I think it kinda depends on how Sterling’s gonna recover from this and I guess TJ also.”
Cory Sandhagen Breaks Down How Aljamain Sterling Rematch Would Go
It’s clear the ever-improving bantamweight welcomes a potential rematch with both men. In his first bout with Sterling, the grappling standout took Sandhagen’s back and choked him out in under 90 seconds. When asked how a potential rematch would go, Sandhagen predicted a much different outcome.
“Not like the first (fight). Not anywhere close to the first one. I think that he’ll come out, he’ll try to wrestle me, I’ll stuff all of his shots, and then eventually I’ll be able to catch him and probably take him out in that fight.”
Sandhagen is slated to meet Petr Yan at the end of October in an interim title fight. With the likes of José Aldo, Rob Font, and Dillashaw all on the come up at 135lbs., every fight in the stacked division is of great importance and the future looks bright for the division regardless of the messy title situation.

Demetrious Johnson is taking a lap back to 2017 to explain why his widely requested fight against TJ Dillashaw never came to pass.
By 2017, the UFC’s flyweight division was synonymous with Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. The wins came so easily for him in one title defense after the next that he made his opponents look levels beneath him. With Johnson all but having cleared out the division, the UFC and many of its fans started looking at the next weight class up for someone new to present Mighty Mouse with his biggest challenge: T.J. Dillashaw.
Former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw was on board with the fight, UFC President Dana White was on board with the fight, and the fans were on board with the fight. But what about Johnson himself? Contrary to popular belief, he, too, was on board with the fight—under the right conditions.
“Well, see, the whole TJ Dillashaw thing, we gave our demands if we were gonna do the TJ Dillashaw fight. And one of the demands was: If he couldn’t make weight, 125, then we get to fight at 135 for his belt, and I think we were gonna get some of his purse,” Johnson explained on a recent installment of The MMA Hour. “And the UFC was like, ‘No, no, no. We can’t do it.’
“Because me being an athlete, I knew when TJ cuts to 135, he’s already shredded. Already shredded. And I knew if he cut to 125, he couldn’t do it healthy, and I just knew he couldn’t do it. And he’s proven that he’s made the weight, but he couldn’t do it healthy, and he popped for that fuckin’ EPO drug, whatever he was doing. And I talked to him about it, too. He was like, ‘Dude, I wanted it so bad.’”
Johnson is referring to the 2019 USADA suspension of TJ Dillashaw for EPO in connection to the lone flyweight bout of his career against Henry Cejudo. This incident gave vindication to Johnson and his concerns, which he also detailed back in 2017 when he accused Dana White of attempting to bully him into accepting the fight.
Johnson went on to explain that fans do not understand all that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to making a fight. So when White claims a fighter just doesn’t want to fight, they often take his word for it and fail to consider the business side of things.
Johnson then shared more details about his recent run-in with Dillashaw, where they had a light, yet honest chat about Dillashaw’s 2019 run-in with USADA.
“I was like, ‘Damn, dawg, why’d you do it?’ He was like, ‘Dude, I wanted to make 125 so bad. I would wake up in the morning and I would just be exhausted. So I started taking this stuff, and it just helped me bounced back.’ So I give him respect by him just being straight up,” Johnson said.
Demetrious Johnson has been competing in ONE Championship since 2019. His next fight will be a mixed-special-rules fight against Rodtang Jitmuangnon on December 5.
Who do you think is more to blame for the Johnson/Dillashaw fight never happening: Demetrious Johnson or the UFC?
