Could fans be in store for one more huge title fight before the end of the year? Tony Ferguson is definitely hoping so.

On Monday, “El Cucuy” called out Khabib Nurmagomedov for a lightweight title fight to take place at UFC 245. That event is the promotion’s end-of-year show and takes place in Las Vegas on December 14.

“Pretty Sure We Can Make Some Room For Good Ol’Fathead @TeamKhabib # TeamTiramisuTakeover @ufc @danawhite Make It Happen #DefendorVacate #Accepted @BallengeeGroup Dec 14 -Champ Shit Only™” Ferguson tweeted while posting a picture of his past opponents that he had bloodied up.

Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson is a fight the mixed martial arts world has been hoping to see for many years now. It has been booked four times so far, but was called off on each occasion due to injuries. The most recent case was at UFC 223 in April last year where Ferguson got injured a week before the fight.

If booked for UFC 245, it would be the third title fight on the card and likely serve as the main event. Other title bouts booked are Max Holloway vs. Alexander Volkanovski and Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie.

Hopefully, the fifth time is a charm.

Add former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre to the list of people who believe Tony Ferguson is next in line for a title shot.

Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov recently defended his title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 last week. Leading up to that bout, both fighters agreed that Ferguson was next. Leading up to yesterday’s UFC Vancouver headliner between Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone, both fighters also said “El Cucuy” should get the next crack.

And now it’s St-Pierre, who plans on watching that fight should it come to fruition:

“100 percent [he deserves it],” St-Pierre told Helen Yee in a recent interview. “Tony Ferguson and it’s going to be a good fight. I’m a big fan, I’m doing to be watching.”

Many believe Ferguson has the tools to inflict a first career defeat for Nurmagomedov. But how does “Rush” see that contest panning out?

“I don’t know, it all depends on who’s going to be able to fight their fight,” he explained. “Tony likes a dirty fight with elbows, knees. That’s his style.

Khabib likes to control guys when he’s on the floor with his top game. You know, it all depends on how it’s going to go down. Styles make fights. It’s hard to predict.

Whether we get the highly-awaited Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson fight is another question, however.

What do you think of St-Pierre’s comments?

After Justin Gaethje TKO’d Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC Vancouver, the win set him up for something big. He could be next in line for the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson, assuming that gets done, or he could fight Conor McGregor.

Yet, in his post-fight speech, he called for the title shot, but backstage, admits he would be open to a McGregor bout.

“As far as I know he’s retired. He is in the rankings so he either fights or he gets out. That’s how I see it,” Gaethje said backstage (h/t MMA Fighting). “I absolutely would love to fight him.”

Although he would ‘love’ to fight the Irishman, his goal is to fight for the belt. So he wants that fight to happen.

“I want the winner of Tony and Khabib,” Gaethje said. “I want to fight for the world title, I want to prove I’m the best in the world. So that’s what’s next.”

If he does get a fight against the undefeated Russian, he knows he would be the underdog. But he believes he is a tough matchup for Nurmagomedov. He says his power and leg kicks would be a factor, and wants that fight to test himself.

“He probably beats me if you put it on paper but I hit so hard, I kick so hard and I’m so athletic,” Gaethje said about a potential matchup with Nurmagomedov. “The way you stop a takedown in wrestling is to meet force with force. You don’t try to go away. I won’t touch the cage. If he’s going to take me down, it’s going to be in the middle and he’s going to get his leg kicked a few times before he even gets a shot off.”

What do you think should be next for Justin Gaethje following UFC Vancouver?
