UFC welterweight Nate Diaz has revealed that he has given the promotion multiple names that he would like to fight, including Tony Ferguson and Vicente Luque, and yet has been inactive for over a year now.

Nate Diaz is clearly one the UFC’s biggest draws right now, consistently receiving electric receptions whenever he makes the long walk to the UFC octagon. Diaz does huge numbers and has done for over half a decade, so it’s odd that despite him being fit, healthy and desperate to fight, we have not seen him compete since June 2021.

With just one fight left on his contract, Diaz has been vocal on his social media about his desire for a fight since last December. Despite his best efforts, the UFC have not been able to book a fight with him, but Diaz assured everyone that this fault was not on his side.

In fact, when sitting down with Ariel Helwani for a special MMA Fighting Tuesday Show, Diaz stated that he had asked the UFC for several names over the months including the likes of Tony Ferguson.

“They haven’t offered me anybody,” Diaz began. “I’ve been asking for fights since whenever, I asked for a lot of fights. I asked for [Vicente] Luque, I asked for Tony Ferguson, I asked for like four or five people. It was never good on their side. They finally offered me Khamzat [Chimaev], I gave a little ‘what the f*ck?’, but then I thought why not? Let’s get it done with.”

“I asked for the Khamzat fight, Diaz continued. “Then, all sorts of excuses started happening. I wanted January, I wanted March, I wanted all these things… I’m trying to get this show on the road, but they’re keeping me in my contract and they’re holding me hostage. I want out, that’s my main objective.” (H/T BJPenn.com).

Daniel Cormier Finally Admits to UFC 210 Weigh-In Shenanagins; “I Think I May Have Grabbed The Towel”

Daniel CormierFormer UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier has finally admitted to an incident in 2017 that came to be known as ‘towelgate’.  At UFC 210, ‘DC’ was scheduled to face Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in a rematch of their UFC 187 bout where Cormier scored a third-round submission to capture the light heavyweight championship.  When Cormier initially […]

Daniel Cormier

Former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier has finally admitted to an incident in 2017 that came to be known as ‘towelgate’.

At UFC 210, ‘DC’ was scheduled to face Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in a rematch of their UFC 187 bout where Cormier scored a third-round submission to capture the light heavyweight championship.

When Cormier initially stepped on the scale for the scheduled bout, he weighed in over the light heavyweight limit. Cormier returned to the scale shortly after and successfully weighed in on his second attempt. During the second attempt, it appeared that Cormier grabbed the towel being held up in front of him, aiding in meeting the weight requirement.

After years of speculation, Daniel Cormier has finally admitted to grabbing the towel. During his UFC Hall of Fame induction speech as part of the promotion’s International Fight Week, ‘DC’ apologized to his opponent and finally set the record straight after years of speculation.

“I want to tell you something because I feel like right now is the time to be completely transparent. I think I may have grabbed the towel in Buffalo. Rumble, I’m sorry my guy.”

Tony Ferguson Brings Renewed Attention to Daniel Cormier Weigh-In Following Charles Oliveira Debacle

The incident received some renewed attention following Charles Oliveira’s botched weigh-in that resulted in the former lightweight champion being stripped of his title ahead of a showdown with Justin Gaethje at UFC 274.

Lightweight fan-favorite Tony Ferguson called out Cormier following UFC 274, reminding fans of the incident and stating that Cormier should have been stripped of his title, similar to how ‘Do Bronx’ was stripped of his.

“How Not to Make Weight Ladies & Gentlemen. Shoulda Stripped Em’ Like They Did @CharlesDoBronx Shout Out To All Those Doin’ It Right & Keepin’ The Sport Clean – Champ -CSO- CuttingWeight Feeling Great,” Ferguson wrote.

Daniel Cormier responded to Ferguson, telling ‘El Cucuy’ to recover following his knockout loss to ‘Iron’ Mike Chandler at UFC 274.

“Tony please stop. Go and sit back for a little, tuck your head in a hole somewhere. Regroup man, recover spend some time with your family. Like just please stop! I plead with you. It is not a good look. Like you’re making me sad,” Cormier responded.

In his response, Cormier didn’t outright deny the accusations. Now we know why.

Tony Ferguson Denies He Is ‘Washed Up’ In Response To Fake Dana White Quote

It appears former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson has fallen victim to a fake quote circulated from UFC president, Dana White – denying that he is a “washed up” fighter following a string of four consecutive losses at 155lbs.

Ferguson, a former interim lightweight champion and the current #9 ranked contender in the division, suffered his fourth consecutive defeat at UFC 274 in May, dropping a brutal second round, front kick knockout loss against Michael Chandler. The stoppage came as Ferguson’s first professional KO defeat.

The continued skid in Phoenix, Arizona – despite landing the opening round following a knockdown of his own, follows prior one-sided defeats against Beneil Dariush, former champion, Charles Oliveira, and Justin Gaethje

Tony Ferguson denies he is “washed up” following his losing skid

Denying claims from a fake quote from the aforenoted White which circulated over the course of the weekend, Ferguson claimed that he was not, in fact “washed up” – with the fake narrative appearing to light a fire under the Oxnard veteran.

“Washed up?” Tony Ferguson posted on his Instagram accompanied by a picture of him training. “@DanaWhite I’ll give you washed up… Washed deez nuts. Now I’m pissed. #SometimesYouNeedToHearThatSh*t #FiresF*ckin’Lit. #TUFTimes.”

In the time since his knockout loss to Chandler, Ferguson has been continually linked with a potential role on a new season of The Ultimate Fighter – opposite former undisputed champion and arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both Ferguson and Khabib have been entirely receptive to potentially featuring as coaches on a reboot of TUF – with the above mentioned, White joking recently that he hoped the duo would have such a disdain for each other, that he would attempt to book them for a fight for a staggering sixth separate occasion.

“Hopefully they’ll (Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson) get pissed off enough at each other that they actually want to fight and I can make them fight,” Dana White said. “I’m in. You sold me.”

Tony Ferguson has taken aim at UFC President Dana White for reportedly claiming that he’s washed up.

In a characteristic emoji-laden tweet, Ferguson issued a defiant reply to the UFC president on Sunday in which he passionately refuted the claim. It’s not clear when, where, or even if White delivered the insult that has so aggrieved “El Cucuy,” with replies to the tweet seeming to suggest the latter.

Ferguson, who’s currently riding a four-fight losing streak, assured fans that while he’s not washed up as a fighter, one part of him certainly is, and that White’s reported insult has provided the motivation he needs to mount another tilt at the lightweight title.

“Washed up? Dana White, I’ll give you washed up…washed deez nuts. Now I’m pissed,” tweeted Ferguson, followed by a few obscenity-laden hashtags.

Now 38 years old and three years removed from his last win, Ferguson has increasingly faced criticism that he may be on the decline, particularly following his KO loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 274 in May.

Some believe that he should retire, but despite waning confidence in his ability to challenge for the title, Tony has remained steadfastly committed to the goal.

Ferguson’s horrific slump in form has coincided with his becoming an increasingly vocal critic of Dana White. Just prior to suffering arguably the worst loss of his career at UFC 274, “El Cucuy” made headlines by airing his many grievances with the UFC, likening the business practices of White to that of a drug dealer.

Ferguson has continued to throw shade at his boss in recent weeks, insisting that White has made him “feel like sh*t” in the past.

What Is The Biggest Fight That Got Away, Khabib/Ferguson Or GSP/Silva?

Two UFC legends have sparked a debate over which should be considered the greatest UFC matchup that never happened: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson or Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva? Two UFC legends have sparked a debate over which should be considered the greatest UFC matchup that never happened: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson or Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva?

While we see some quality fights booked each and every year inside the Octagon, not all of the fans’ dream pairings come together, with many often remaining in the realms of fantasy rather than the steel surroundings most had hoped for.

Perhaps there’s little debate over which of the two mentioned above is the most frustrating matchup…

A collision between Ferguson and Khabib is widely regarded as one of the most desired fights that never came to fruition. The pair were scheduled to fight each other on five separate occasions, and yet fans were never treated to a showdown inside the cage.

After injuries and health problems on both sides saw contests at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, UFC on FOX 19, UFC 209, and UFC 223 collapse, the promotion made one final attempt at putting on the dream bout at UFC 249 in 2020. After COVID-19 restrictions forced Khabib out, the fight appeared forever doomed.

That was all but set in stone when Justin Gaethje ended the former interim champion’s lengthy win streak and went on to share the Octagon with the Dagestani at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi. After “The Eagle” defended the lightweight gold for the third time against “The Highlight,” he announced his retirement.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping suggested that Khabib and Ferguson’s cursed matchup is the biggest fight that got away in the UFC.

“Number one (is) Tony Ferguson, ‘El Cucuy,’ taking on ‘The Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov. Now, the fact that this bout never went ahead is just absolutely insane,” said Bisping. “This fight was matched up, contracted, training camps were taking place… five times! … It is just unbelievable that the fight never took place… This is number one bullsh*t… That truly is the one that got away.”

While many will no doubt agree with the Englishman’s selection, hold your horses, Chael Sonnen has something to say…

Sonnen Names A Fight That Surpasses Khabib/Ferguson

In every GOAT discussion, two names are almost always present: Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre. While the former ran roughshod over the UFC middleweight division between 2006 and 2013, defending the title 10 successful times, “Rush” enjoyed similar dominance at welterweight, brushing aside nine challenges to his second reign between 2008 and 2013.

Despite ruling over their respective weight classes during the same period, and with some talk of the pair colliding for a superfight, the matchup never ventured beyond discussion, even with the Brazilian’s apparent willingness to go down in weight for it.

According to Sonnen, a former opponent of Silva, that was a massive shame. During a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the former two-division title challenger named Silva vs. GSP as the greatest fight that got away on MMA’s biggest stage.

“For me, it was Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre. I think that was the fight that got away,” said Sonnen. “Those two never touched each other… I think you guys are gonna agree with me, St-Pierre versus Anderson… probably gets a ‘wow’ factor… St-Pierre vs. Anderson, I don’t know if they so much as shook hands (for that fight).” (h/t Sportskeeda MMA)

While Khabib vs. Ferguson looked destined to clash on five separate occasions, St-Pierre vs. Silva seemingly didn’t come as close to reaching the cage.

As well as never being booked, UFC President Dana White has previously suggested that the bout wasn’t even close to coming together, with the Canadian having no interest in sharing the Octagon with the Brazilian.

Who do you agree with, Chael Sonnen or Michael Bisping?
