Khamzat Chimaev, Tony Ferguson

Tony Ferguson has blasted Khamzat Chimaev seemingly out of the blue, even going so far as threatening to make the surging UFC star his “bitch.”

Khamzat Chimaev is swiftly becoming one of the most active social media users on the UFC roster. Just yesterday alone, Borz called out not one, not two, but three retired former UFC champions: Georges St-Pierre, Brock Lesnar, and Daniel Cormier. He also laid into Colby Covington for the second time in recent weeks.

After one of Chimaev’s tweets directed at Covington, there was one unexpected retweet from none other than former UFC interim lightweight champion, “El Cucuy” Tony Ferguson. Ferguson joined the list of those who have drawn comparisons to Chimaev and Khabib Nurmagomedov and then made an explicit threat to the undefeated phenom.

“you do not represent USA i represent USA you represent cowardice,” Chimaev posted in a tweet directed at Covington.

“The Fuck You Do. Ya Can’t Even Make Weight Like Fathead @TeamKhabib Sit Down Shut Up Before I Make You My Bitch Where Were You During The Start Of The Pandemic? # Merica’MF” Ferguson said in his re-tweet.

Tony Ferguson is currently on a three-fight losing streak and has not competed at welterweight since winning The Ultimate Fighter in 2011. Therefore, the chances of him being paired with undefeated welterweight Khamzat Chimaev in the near future are likely slim to none.

Chimaev is reportedly in talks to fight Gilbert Burns next, yet there has not been any movement or further reports on those negotiations since the initial report two weeks ago.

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former interim champ Tony Ferguson may never fight, but their trash talk lives on.

Nurmagomedov has remained in the public eye despite retiring last year following his win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. He’s come to the defense of his protege, Islam Makhachev, and vouched for him to get a lightweight title shot next.

This has included back-and-forths on social media with Gaethje and others. But now, his old rival Ferguson has stepped to the plate to take a jab at Nurmagomedov.

After getting word of Ferguson’s tweet, Nurmagomedov didn’t respond in kind and alluded to Ferguson’s recent struggles in the octagon.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson Were Supposed to Fight Multiple Times During Their Careers

“For the last three years Tony Ferguson [hasn’t] won a single round in the UFC,” Nurmagomedov said. “Some of the rounds you lost 10-8. Since 2015, you’ve [beat] only one fighter in the Top 15. Tony, it’s a clear picture here, I’m not gonna go low and personal, not gonna insult you. It’s just facts.”

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson’s beef has spanned years. They were supposed to fight on numerous occasions, but something always happened to get in the way. Whether it be injury or travel issues, something always stood in the way of UFC fans getting to see a dream matchup between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson.

Nurmagomedov went on to retire undefeated with defenses over Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Conor McGregor. He’s widely regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time.

Ferguson is still awaiting an opponent for his return to the cage, as he looks to get back on track at lightweight. He’s lost three bouts in a row.

Many believe that the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is the one that got away. The two were set to fight each other on several occasions, but it never panned out. Now, these two fighters are back at each other’s throats again, but this time it is on social media. Nurmagomedov has taken it upon himself to send the latest shot towards Ferguson.

“For the last three years Tony Ferguson you never won a single round in the
@ufc,” Nurmagomedov wrote. “Some of the rounds you lost 10:8. Since 2015 you won only one fighter from top 15. Tony, it’s a clear picture here, I’m not gonna go low and personal, not gonna insult you. It’s just a facts.”

These harsh words are coming in response to several posts Ferguson sent out that attacked Nurmagomedov.

“We Were Right Here In The Middle Of Negotiations Coward. Dana Picked Me To Fight Ol’Boy. You & Khabieber Chose The Easy Fight,” Ferguson responded when manager Ali Abdelaziz accused Ferguson of ducking Makhachev in the past.

“Listen You Fat Phuck @TeamKhabib Last Time I Saw You, Ya Ran Off To A Different Country Like A Little Bitch To Avoid Our Title Fight. The Time Before That Ya Faked A Stomach Ache To Get Out Of Our Title Fight. Shut Cha’Trap. Leave The Man Shit To The Ones On The Front Line”

The rekindled beef between these two seemed to stem from a statement from Nurmagomedov regarding who should be next for the lightweight title shot. Nurmagomedov believes his teammate Islam Makhachev deserves the next shot at champion Oliveira. He has mentioned this on several occasions.

Gaethje is closer to the title shot than Ferguson at this point, but this could be a plan to get a fight with Makhachev. Targeting Nurmagomedov to get a fight with his protégé has been done in the past for Rafael dos Anjos. Ferguson has lost three in a row, all against top-five fighters. If he is looking for a fight with the Russian standout, he could be heading in the right direction.

Tony Ferguson has responded to the teased callout from Nate Diaz, and it seems that he is down.

Diaz has been looking for big opponents in what would be the final fight on his current contract with the UFC. He initially began by calling out top welterweight contender Vicente Luque, but when that did not pan out for one reason or another, he then seemed to set his sights on Ferguson.

It would appear that “El Cucuy” saw the callout from Stockton’s favorite younger brother, and he is up for the challenge, at least on one condition.

Tony Ferguson Gives Condition For Potential Nate Diaz Fight

Despite Ferguson being a longtime lightweight, he took to Twitter to post the same picture that Diaz used to call him out, suggesting that he would be down to take the fight if it were to happen at welterweight instead of 155lb.

“Blazin’?Trails” Roll? It? 170lb ? -CSO-” Ferguson wrote, tagging Nate Diaz and Dana White.

If put together, this would be an absolutely crucial matchup for both men, and an exciting one for fans to watch and enjoy. For Tony Ferguson, he is in desperate need of a win after losing three in a row to some of the best lightweights in the world.

As for Nate Diaz, a win over Ferguson would put him in a great spot as he enters into the world of free agency, testing the market after fighting out his contract. Even if he stays in the UFC, a win here would keep his stock trending upwards after a spirited effort in defeat against Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal in his last two outings.

At the end of the day, Dana White went on record to say that Tony Ferguson was not one of the options that the UFC was looking at for the last fight on the contract of Nate Diaz. And this morning, he stated that would be speaking with Diaz regarding a potential fight with Khamzat Chimaev instead. Nevertheless, fans would be chomping at the bit with enthusiasm for all the antics that would occur if a Ferguson/Diaz bout does end up happening.

Dana White Says Tony Ferguson Isn’t ‘Eager’ To Fight Right Now

Dana White has poured cold water on the prospect of Tony Ferguson returning to the Octagon anytime soon.

During a recent interview with UFC Arabia, White claimed that ‘El Cucuy’ is taking some time off the sport.

“I don’t think so, I don’t think he’s eager to fight right now,” White said. “I think he’s taking some time off.”

“He’s still one of the most talented guys out there,” White added. “When he’s ready to come back, we’ll match him up and we’ll see how does.” (Transcribed MMA Junkie)

Last week, Ferguson got fight fans excited when he returned to social media after a fairly lengthy hiatus and called out Conor McGregor.

Tony Ferguson’s Three Fight Skid

Prior to his recent Twitter activity, Ferguson has been relatively quiet after suffering his third straight defeat at UFC 262 back in May. The Mexican-American fighter was dominated by Beneil Dariush over three rounds and seemed to be a shadow of his former self during the fight. The former interim lightweight champion had been hoping to get back to winning ways after a disastrous 2020. Ferguson was due a title shot but the ongoing global pandemic scuppered plans for him to face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson instead fought Justin Gaethje for an interim title at UFC 249. Despite one very brief moment of success, ‘El Cucuy’ was beat up for five rounds before the referee, Herb Dean, mercifully waved off the fight in the final frame. The loss snapped Ferguson’s 12-fight win streak which remains the best in UFC lightweight history.

The 37-year-old looked to rebound at UFC 256 against Charles Oliveira. Ferguson was once again dominated but in an entirely different way. The Brazilian submission specialist was able to out grapple Ferguson over 15 minutes and only extreme levels of toughness allowed Ferguson to survive a deep armbar attempt and go to the judges’ scorecards who unanimously gave the fight to Oliveira who has since gone on to win the UFC lightweight title Ferguson has coveted for so long.

When do you think we’ll see Dana White book Tony Ferguson’s next fight?
