Travis Browne and Ronda Rousey are likely the biggest power couple in mixed martial arts right now.

The UFC heavyweight and former female bantamweight champion revealed their relationship last year, and now, following comments made by Rousey declaring how important Browne was in her “darkest” moment, “Hapa” is doing the same.

“I was there to support her any way I could,” said Browne, in an interview with Activ8Media.com recently. “Just like any man would do for his woman. We go through dark times and we need someone to lean on. I hate the fact that she had to go through that dark time, but like she said, it happened for a reason.

“It means a lot that somebody would look at me in that way, especially Ronda. She’s such a sweetheart. She’s a great fighter, athlete and a big movie star; but what impresses me most is the woman that she is. She is who she is 100-percent of the time and I respect that about her.”

Browne was the first to comment on the relationship to the general public, as it came on the heels of a messy breakup with his former wife, who he has two children with.

“We love each other and I’m just glad I could be there for her,” Browne said. “That’s what a partner is there for. They are there for support whenever you need them, for good and bad.”

After suffering a TKO loss to Andrei Arlovski last May, Browne (18-3-1) rebounded in January with a third round finish of Matt Mitrione. He is 5-2 over his last seven fights.

As for Rousey, she’s been doing the media circuit after her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover was revealed. The former U.S. Olympic bronze medalist is expected to film several movie roles early this year before returning – likely in November – to take on the winner of Holly Holm-Miesha Tate for the title.

It looks like Ronda Rousey’s new jewelry has caught the attention of a name from Travis Browne’s past.

Jenna Renee Webb, the soon-to-be ex-wife of the UFC Heavyweight star, who is now openly dating Ronda Rousey, took to social media following rumors of a “promise ring” Rousey was rumored to be wearing during her SNL appearance.

Webb posted — and later deleted — the following harsh “meme” after seeing the ring.

She later took to Twitter to comment further on accusations of Browne being involved in domestic abuse in the past, writing, “”When he hits you across your pretty face, don’t worry I’ll be right here to say #IToldYouSo,”

She also posted this one:

It is believed that the following post from Rousey is directed at Webb, however that is strictly rumor at this point.

Matt Mitrione Speaks Out Against UFC For Not Stopping Browne Fight After Eye-Poking

Matt Mitrione was poked in the eye by Travid Browne twice during their fight at UFC Fight Night 81. Browne was not docked any points for them and won the fight. Mitrione was interviewed on The MMA Hour this week, and said he feels the fight should have been stopped.

“In the middle of that fight, after the first eye poke, I was fighting with one eye closed just so I could see one Travis. That’s not a safe way to fight at the highest level in the world against people that are [skilled in] takedowns, kicks, punches, everything in the world. So I feel like, once that was seen and I had my eye closed for however long it was closed, like a minute or something like that…that should have been a sign to the doctors and for the referee to be like, ‘hold on, dude’s closing his eye because he can’t focus, we need to call this a no contest. We need to save him from himself, and step in and do something about this.’ Because I’m not going to do that, because I’m too grindy and gritty and I want my paycheck. But it’s not a safe way for the sport to evolve. I’m not going to blow the whistle on myself, and removed that chance of getting the other half of my money… That’s the thing man, it shouldn’t be up to me, the guy who lives his life to compete to make a decision.

“It should be up to the commission, the doctors and the referee to realize the dude is fighting with one eye closed, and he’s complaining about seeing double. In that situation, you have to protect me from myself. You have to. That’s your job. That’s what the commission and the doctors are there for, and the referee. That’s what he’s there for. Otherwise it’s a fair fight and they don’t need anybody else. But when something comes into the mix, that is a curve ball, a variable that wasn’t expected, and there’s an injury to a fighter…well of course, dude, that’s my money. Of course I’m going to go out and do everything I can to get my money.”

This was the last night on Mitrione’s UFC contract. He’s expected to test the free agency market.

Heavyweight sluggers Travis “Hapa” Browne and Matt Mitrione did battle during the main card of yesterday’s (January 17, 2016) UFC Fight Night 81 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

The highly-ranked contender in Browne came away with a third round TKO victory, but it didn’t come without its fair share of controversy.

“Hapa” ended up landing a pair of eye pokes on Mitrione, neither of which were caught by the referee. Speaking with MMAFighting after the bout, Browne claimed that he wasn’t a dirty fighter, also admitting that he repeatedly apologized to “Meathead” inside of the cage:

“In the cage I was apologizing up and down to Matt,” said Browne, who won via third-round TKO. “That’s not my game. I’m not a dirty fighter. Even in the fight, I’m like, ‘Matt, man, I’m really sorry, I’m not trying to do that.’ He’s like ‘I’m jumping in on you, I’m alright, that happens.’ You know what I mean? It’s just one of those things where, it’s an accident, you know what I mean?”

Continuing on, “Hapa” said that the two pokes occurred at times where he was simply defending himself and letting his instincts and reactions takeover rather than a conscious effort to foul his opponent:

“If you watch the fight, it’s not like I’m moving toward him trying to paw at him and poke his eye,” Browne said. “It’s more like, I’m trying to back up and hold my hand out. Third round I finally started closing my fist. It’s just part of the game, I guess. There’s no malicious intent behind it.”

After the pokes, Browne admitted that the referee warned him, but it was obviously a tad bit late:

“That’s why the referee’s in there,” said Browne. “He warned me the last time: ‘Next time I’m taking a point.’ I did what I could do to not let that happen again. It was an accident. I don’t know what else to say.”

Mitirione’s eye would further take damage when Browne landed a huge right hand, breaking “Meathead’s” orbital bone in the process.

Eye pokes have definitely become a glaring problem within mixed martial arts (MMA), but is there really any solution to the issue?

With a blockbuster free card on FOX Sports 1, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) kept their momentum rolling early this year with last night’s UFC Fight Night 81 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

The card featured the long-awaited return of former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who returned from a multi-year injury layoff to win a split decision over TJ Dillashaw in an emotional reclamation of the title he never actually lost. The riveting main event was obviously the highlight of the East Coast show, yet there were some other fighters who definitely deserve their own recognition for playing a part in the memorable card.

Let’s take a look at the five biggest takeaways from UFC Fight Night 81:
