Although the UFC doesn’t have an official record book, Chris Leben is believed to be on his way to setting a new UFC record on Saturday night at UFC 116, fighting on only two weeks off for the shortest layoff ever since the UFC stopped having one-night tournaments.
Leben, who beat Aaron Simpson on June 19 and then agreed to fill in for the injured Wanderlei Silva against Yoshihiro Akiyama on July 3, says it’s a source of pride to him that he could do something no UFC fighter has ever done before.

Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin have really stepped up the trash talk in the week leading up to their heavyweight title clash Saturday night at UFC 116.
Prior to this point, Lesnar has been uncharacteristically sedate in his pre-fight posturing and seemed almost respectful towards Carwin during a conference call two weeks ago.
Well, apparently Brock got the itch to flip the script and went "WWE" on Shane in the above video.
"I feel no threat by him whatsoever. I don’t feel any threats by anybody."
Considering Carwin has yet to be defeated and has never fought outside of round one in any of his bouts, he may want to consider him a threat.
Cognizant that Lesnar is likely speaking out of his ass, Carwin calls him on the remark as well.
"Brock can talk all the garbage he wants for this fight. When they close that cage and I see Brock across from me, I want to tear him apart."
I know one thing: Somebody is getting hurt in this one.

With a ton of hullabaloo surrounding this Saturday’s heavyweight tilt between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, especially now that Wanderlei Silva is no longer competing (anytime you lose an “Axe Murderer” people are going to be pissed), the rematch between Krzyzstof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar may be getting a little lost in the shuffle. Their first tilt in February was pretty good, until of course, the referee shat the bed (the fight ending cut on Bonnar occurred as a result of an accidental head butt and not a punch)
Since competing on TUF 8 Soszynski has performed pretty well (aside from a UD loss to Brandon Vera) and although a loss to Bonnar wouldn’t be catastrophic, it might put him on the bubble. Bonnar has lost three in a row, however, and although the defeat to Soszynski doesn’t really count, the former TUF star lost to Mark Coleman and Jon Jones before that. One loss was kind of expected, the other…not so much.
Of course, due to Bonnar’s starring role in the fight that ‘changed it all’, Dana White has stated in the past that both Bonnar and Forrest Griffin will always have a home with the UFC. This is likely why in a recent interview with MMA Fighting Mr. Soszynski stated:
“I have a feeling that’s why all the pressure’s on me,” Soszynski said. “He’s got a home. He’s never going to leave the UFC. If he’s one of Dana White’s boys, then I’m the one that has to win this fight. He’s got a job, he’s got nothing to worry about. If I lose to Stephan Bonnar, I might lose my job.”

Shane Carwin may not be doing an all-out media blitz in advance of his heavyweight title fight against Brock Lesnar at UFC 116, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still available to his fans. He communicates with them regularly on his website, Shane-Carwin.com, and even recently posted his salary information for the upcoming title fight. Judging by their reactions online and on Twitter, they reward this accessibility with a fierce loyalty.
But to find out what’s going through his head as he prepares to take on Lesnar in what may now be a bout to determine not only the UFC champ, but also MMA’s No. 1 overall heavyweight. MMA Fighting reached out to Carwin over e-mail and got a few interesting responses about where he sees himself in the UFC hierarchy, and what he thinks of Lesnar’s take on MMA greats like Fedor Emelianenko.
When it comes to fight preparation, Krzyzstof Soszynski has most assuredly been on both ends of the spectrum.
Last May, “The Polish Experiment” got less than three weeks notice to fight Andre Gusmao at UFC 98. In August, he got about a month’s notice to fill in for Matt Hamill against Brandon Vera at UFC 102. He came through with a knockout against Gusmao, but was sluggish and out-pointed against Vera.
That’s why he would much prefer a nice, long training camp – even if, like this time around, it’s essentially an eight-month camp to fight the same opponent twice.
Soszynski (19-9-1, 4-1 UFC) rematches with Stephan Bonnar (11-7, 5-6 UFC) at UFC 116 on Saturday after a controversial ending to their first fight at UFC 110. An accidental head butt opened up a cut on Bonnar’s head that forced a TKO stoppage, and Bonnar’s appeal to have the bout ruled a no contest was denied. Both fighters agreed a rematch would be prudent, but Soszynski said this is not likely to be a continuation of their last meeting.
