Filed under: UFCThe UFC has already had two pay-per-view main events end in draws this year, with neither fighter getting his hand raised in the Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard fight at UFC 125, or the B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch fight at UFC 127.
UFC President Dana White wasn’t satisfied with those decisions, and he’d like to do something about it: Add overtime to UFC fights.
Talking to Stephan Bonnar on The Ultimate Fighter Aftermath, White was asked whether he would favor an overtime round for fights that end in draws, just as the fights on The Ultimate Fighter have. White said he thinks that’s a good idea.
After Michael Bisping infuriated many throughout the MMA world by gobbing at Jorge Rivera’s corner last month, no one was too terribly surprised when ‘charismatic’ fighters like Chael Sonnen were quick to call out “The Count” (and yes, we realize some of you may have hoped for a ‘typo’ there removing just one little letter….). Ya, Rivera pissed Bisping off, and perhaps some of his British countrymen with those pre-fight vids, but horking at a dude? That’s low.
At any rate, just when it seemed like things had cooled down a tad, Nate Marquardt has tossed two very large and angry cents into the discussion. Yup, the always nice and polite “Nate the Great” apparently had this to say about Bisping, while participating in the UFC 128 open workout yesterday (Thanks to MMA Junkie for the quotes).
“I would love to fight that guy just to punch him in his mouth and shut him up,” said Marquardt. “That’d be nice. He’s an ass. He’s a total punk (with) no respect. I don’t like those people.”
“The crap talking – guys hyping up fights – that’s one thing,” Marquardt said. “Even guys who are like that naturally, I don’t hold that against them. But the fact that he goes and spits on his opponent’s corner, that’s just so disrespectful. That’s not what a martial artist does and not what a sportsman does.”
So, looks like another of the UFC’s best middleweights is looking to throw down with Mr. Bisping; at least Mike doesn’t have to worry about finding fights. In the meantime, Marquardt will take on the always tough Dan Miller, Saturday night. To bet on the tilt head here.

How else could Jon Fitch take to his Facebook page this week and declare himself not only a clear winner over B.J. Penn at UFC 127, but a victor over the “best BJ ANY of us have ever seen”?
As Fitch saw it, rounds two and three were clearly his. Round one? That was a draw in Fitch’s eyes. As in, the round where he was taken down, gave up his back, and spent most of it simply trying not to get choked. Yep, a clear 10-10 round against the greatest Penn ever, if you ask Fitch.

Because he’s a pro’s pro, Chris Lytle wouldn’t admit it, but he was far from fighting at full strength in his UFC 127 loss to Brian Ebersole. In fact, just four weeks before his fight, he had the injured meniscus in his right knee removed, MMA Fighting has learned.
Lytle chose to keep the procedure quiet to deflect attention and avoid devaluing Ebersole’s win. But after MMA Fighting learned of the injury from two separate sources, Lytle’s manager Ken Pavia finally confirmed the surgery, which he said began as an exploratory procedure before the doctor removed the meniscus due to the damage.
Lytle chose to fight, and the ensuing unanimous decision loss to Ebersole marked the end of a four-fight win streak. It could also possibly bring a close to his career.

If you’re one of those people who insist on connecting the dots between every bad thing in the past and every good thing in the present – if you are, in other words, annoyingly positive – then you could say that Brian Ebersole‘s surprising UFC debut, his upset win over Chris Lytle, and the $75,000 bonus check he received for the ‘Fight of the Night’ would never have happened if not for a street fight between some rowdy college kids more than a decade ago.
Picture Eastern Illinois University, September of 2000. Leaves changing. Hormones raging. All the same college campus crap, just set to a slightly different soundtrack.
Ebersole, a third-year college student on a wrestling squad that features future UFC legend Matt Hughes as one of its assistant coaches, has built something of a reputation for himself as a guy who can fight a little bit when he wants to.

Three days after their fight in the Octagon came to an end, the war of words between Michael Bisping and Jorge Rivera, and the respective trainers and managers of both fighters, is still not over.
“Let me begin first by saying that in five years of competing in the UFC at every level, we have never encountered a more unprofessional outfit as Jorge Rivera’s camp,” Anthony McGann of Wolfslair MMA Academy in the statement.
