Speaking with Sergio Non from the USA Today, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones was candid with his current skill-set, admiration by MMA experts and his future within the sport.

Humbled and flattered that he is considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, Jones stated that his one weakness is his jiu-jitsu game.

“I think jiu-jitsu is my biggest flaw,” Jones said, “and it’s something I’m attacking everyday to become the pound-for-pound best.”

A recent rivalry with “Suga” Rashad Evans has spawned since Jones captured the UFC championship on March 19, 2011 with a crushing defeat of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

“I practiced against Rashad on many days and in practice I always felt like I had the upper hand technically and strength wise and all facets of the sport,” Jones said.

The Jones-Evans rivalry will continue to build as both fighters are scheduled to compete against separate competition prior to possibly facing each other inside the Octagon.

On September 24, Jones will challenge Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135.

Prior to the “Bones” – “Rampage” duel, Evans will square off against Phil Davis on August 6 at UFC 133.

If both Jones and Evans are victorious in their matchups, a future contest between these two former teammates is inevitable.

At just 23 years old, Jones is the youngest title-holder ever within the UFC.

Not only is “Bones” a dynamic fighter inside the Octagon and a tremendous fan favorite, he also receives accolades from fellow UFC competitors for his talents.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite fighter to watch of the young, up-and-coming crowd is Jon Jones,” UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos said. “I think Jon Jones surprised the whole world with his talent and his excellent fighting execution.”

Pioneering offensive moves inside the cage has become a forte of Jon Jones. Whether it be spinning back kicks, spinning back elbows, knee strikes from about every angle and any position, Jones is quickly becoming the inventor of a myriad of movies copied by others.

“Seeing guys like Anthony Pettis throwing that kick off the cage, seeing guys do spinning back fists or spinning back kicks and stuff, it’s just opening up people’s minds. They’re realizing, ‘Hey, why don’t I work on a cool, special move or a signature move?’ I think in the future it won’t even be mentioned in interviews. Everyone’s going to be having real cool tricks that they do,” Jones stated to Non.

Jon Jones’ creativity inside the Octagon is second-to-none. He has exploded onto the UFC scene and risen to the top faster than any champion in history. A humble and gracious fighter, “Bones” will continue to mitigate his holes in his game.

I look forward to watching this young superstar continuing to grow as he proudly adorns the UFC light heavyweight championship.

I welcome your comments.

Jones vs. Rampage Agreed for UFC 135 in Denver; Two Heavyweight Bouts Also Added

(Quinton Jackson warily high-fives Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban at the 1st Annual Pornstar Ball in Las Vegas, back in 2009. Seriously.)

The UFC announced yesterday that light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson have agreed to square off at UFC 135, September 24th at the Pepsi Center in Denver. It will be Jones’s first title defense, after winning the belt from Mauricio Rua in March. Meanwhile, Jackson is riding back-to-back decision wins over Lyoto Machida and Matt Hamill. It may not pack the kind of grudge-match heat that Jones vs. Rashad would have had, but at least Jones and Jackson disagree on the motorboating issue. So, anybody think Rampage actually has a chance against the young phenom?

A pair of heavyweight scraps have also been reportedly added to the event…

Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton. Not exactly a step up for Browne, who’s coming off his dramatic knockout of Stefan Struve at UFC 130. Still, Broughton is on a five-fight win streak and won his UFC debut last October by choking out Vinicius Queiroz at UFC 120.

Mark Hunt vs. Ben Rothwell. Hunt snapped a six-fight losing streak when he knocked out Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 in February. Rothwell is coming off a decision win over Gilbert Yvel last June, but hasn’t been active since then due to knee surgery.

UFC 135 will also feature Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez, and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto’s return against Damacio Page.

Greg Jackson Talks Strategy and Upcoming Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz Bout

Bleacher Report’s Mike Hodges:

Georges St-Pierre’s next opponent may very well pose as a potential threat to his title, as the champion will look defend his UFC welterweight title against challenger, Nick Diaz, at UFC 137

St-Pierre, who will be making his seventh title defense against Diaz, is well-aware of what his opponent brings to the Octagon, and so does his coach, Greg Jackson.

In an interview conducted by LowKick.com, Jackson commented on the abilities of Diaz and he believes the Strikeforce welterweight champion will provide a challenge for St-Pierre.

“Nick Diaz is an incredibly tough fighter,” Jackson said.

“It’s gonna be a real challenge for Georges (St-Pierre) to be able to overcome all the tools that Nick Diaz brings.”

Since being cut by the UFC in 2006, Diaz competed in multiple organizations before being acquired by Strikeforce in 2009, that has seen him go on a 10-fight win streak, along with capturing the organization’s welterweight crown. Diaz has been outspoken in the past, considering himself as the top welterweight in the world, while calling out the Saint-Isidore, Que. native.

Nate Marquardt Would Go Back to Middleweight to Fight Michael Bisping

Bleacher Report’s Jeffrey McKinney:

Although Nate Marquardt may make his move to 170 a permanent one, a fight with Michael Bisping could make him move back to middleweight.

Marquardt told MMA Junkie Radio that although he felt he could be champion at middleweight, his natural weight is 170 lbs.

“I feel like I could hold the title at 185 lbs, but for me, it’s more of a natural weight to fight at 170,” Marquardt said. “If I ever did go back to 185, I wouldn’t put on extra weight on purpose. I have more energy for practices. I just feel better.”

Bisping was called out by many fighters including Marquardt, after his fight with Jorge Rivera.

It appears that the final hurdle—doctors’ approval of Jon Jones’ hand—has been overcome. Today, the UFC announced via Twitter that Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson have verbally agreed to fight for Jones’ UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 135.

Jones, who won the title with a TKO win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 in March, was originally scheduled to face Rashad Evans in his first title defense. An injured hand forced Jones to withdraw from that fight, and Evans was subsequently booked to face Phil Davis at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, PA.

Jackson, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, earned the shot at Jones with a three-round unanimous decision victory over Matt Hamill at UFC 130. Prior to that fight Jackson earned a split-decision win over former champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 123.

Jackson took the UFC light heavyweight title from Chuck Liddell at UFC 71, knocking out “The Iceman” at the 1:53 mark of Round 1. Jackson would defend his title once, defeating Dan Henderson at UFC 75, unifying the UFC light heavyweight and Pride middleweight titles in the process. Jackson would lose the title in his next fight, dropping a unanimous decision victory to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86.

BetOnFighting.com has released the early odds for the fight, Jones is a -345 favorite over Jackson, who comes in at +275.

According to UFC.com, the following fights will also be on the Denver card:

Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez

Damacio Page vs. “Kid” Yamamoto

Mark Hunt vs. Ben Rothwell
