UFC 141 Results: Fired-Up Brock Lesnar Will Make Quick Work of Alistair Overeem

Brock Lesnar‘s return to action will go well for him. As a result of that, he’ll reclaim his place of one of the sport’s top heavyweights.

Even when he’s in the ring against a tough opponent, Lesnar is a monster. Make no mistake, Alistair Overeem is a tough opponent, but he won’t be able to stand up to the rage that Lesnar will unleash.

Remember that while he’s an undeniable huge name, Lesnar is still relatively new to the world of MMA. I suppose a case could be made that that means he won’t stack up to a veteran like Overeem, but argument doesn’t stack up.

If that was the case, then he wouldn’t have a 5-2. He certainly wouldn’t have won the UFC Heavyweight Championship, or defended it successfully twice. Before Cain Velasquez knocked Lesnar out, he had only one loss, to Frank Mir. That loss has since been avenged.

If Lesnar was really too inexperienced, none of that would apply. Sure, a case could be made that he got a title shot because of his name. That may or may not be true, but getting a title shot and winning (and then defending) that title are two different things. Lesnar has taken advantage of every opportunity he’s had.

Now, Lesnar is doing something that he’s only had to do once in his MMA career. He’s trying to bounce back from a loss.

Yes, that loss was over a year ago, but there’s no way that it’s not still burning with Lesnar. Overeem is not the man who handed him the loss, but he will suffer Lesnar’s wrath from it.

Look for Lesnar to come out aggressive. That’s not a particularly unique strategy, but also look for him to be focused, and balanced. He now knows that aggression has a drawback. He won’t curb the aggression, but he will be more prepared for Overeem’s defenses.

We’re not going to get a long fight in this one, but there will be plenty of action. Lesnar will get his career back on track with a win.

Prediction: Lesnar via first-round knockout.

UFC 141 Fight Card: How Donald Cerrone Will Beat Nate Diaz

Tonight at UFC 141, lightweight Donald Cerrone squares off with Nate Diaz in, as Bruce Buffer would say, the co-main event of the evening.

Both men are on hot streaks at the moment, and rank among the top 20 lightweights in all the major world rankings. A win for either would be a huge leap forward. For Cerrone, who hasn’t lost in the UFC in four fights, it could solidify him as a title contender.

But in the meantime, he’s got the dangerous and irascible Diaz in front of him. And this could be the fight of the night. So what does Cerrone need to do to win?

Well, in a nutshell, he can be himself. I know it sounds silly, but hear me out.

Nate’s bread and butter is a stalking style of boxing and a finish-minded submission game. Cerrone isn’t typically the type to get bullied, on the feet or on the ground.

When the fight is standing, he doesn’t seem likely to let Diaz walk him back into the fence. He can return Nate’s fire with kicks and knees as well as punches. And while the Diaz brothers are famous for their endless cardio, Cerrone doesn’t tire easily, though, and shouldn’t overextend himself or allow Diaz to blow him out.

On the ground, Cerrone has the well-rounded game, quickness and athleticism to keep pace with Diaz and power out of any scrapes. Diaz is great on the ground but doesn’t always actively look to go there. If Cerrone can get a takedown and assume top control, he should be able to score points while staying out of Diaz’s submissions.

Cerrone probably can, and should, dictate where the fight takes place. The bottom line is that if he fights within himself and commits to bullying the bully, Cerrone has a great chance to come out on top.

Polarizing heavyweight Brock Lesnar hasn’t won a fight in 18 months, but he will return to glory by punishing Alistair Overeem in UFC 141.

Lesnar has been through a lot over the past year and a half. His chin was tested by Shane Carwin, his title was taken by Cain Velasquez, his career was threatened by diverticulitis and his wallet took a hit after an odd poaching incident just a few weeks ago.

Still, Lesnar is in prime position to return to the UFC’s elite. If he can defeat the powerful Overeem on Friday night, he will get a shot at reclaiming his title from new heavyweight king Junior dos Santos.

The contrasting styles in tonight’s fight will be evident from the opening bell. Lesnar is one of the best wrestlers in the world, while Overeem’s strikes could crumble a small building. Whoever keeps the fight in their preferred domain will eventually win.

Lesnar knows he needs to take Overeem to the ground immediately, and I think he will be successful in doing so. Overeem has battled some solid wrestlers in Strikeforce, but none were anywhere near Brock’s level.

Look for Lesnar to absorb a couple big strikes on his feet before putting Overeem on his back and destroying him with a ground and pound clinic.

Lesnar is an underdog against Overeem, but as he said himself, he’s “the underdog with a big f—ing bite.”

Lesnar will win by referee stoppage late in the first round.

Lesnar vs. Overeem: Brock Lesnar’s Return to UFC Will End in Triumph

Brock Lesnar‘s first UFC bout in over a year will result in a thrilling victory over Alistair Overeem.

Although Lesnar is at a distinct disadvantage, having been out of the sport for a significant amount of time because of his battle with diverticulitis, his unmatched wresting talent and ability to put opponents away once on the ground cannot be outdone.

Lesnar and Overeem are scheduled to touch gloves on Friday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the main event of UFC 141.

Lesnar’s last bout resulted in a brutal defeat to Cain Velasquez via TKO in the first round. That was over 14 months ago, back in October 2010.

In that time, Overeem is 2-0, but none of the fights have come in the UFC.

While Overeem has more mixed martial arts experience than his opponent, Lesnar owns the more valuable Octagon experience and has gone 4-2 in six career UFC fights.

The former UFC heavyweight champion has made a living over his short fighting career of taking opponents to the mat early on and ultimately using his overwhelming size and strength to wear them down.

It’s no surprise that Lesnar is not a stand up fighter given his wrestling background, but his ability to get guys like Shane Carwin and Frank Mir to the ground says a lot.

Overeem will be no exception on Friday night.

Lesnar will go for the takedown early. Once he gets it, Overeem will be in a losing situation. No heavyweight can match Lesnar’s ground skills, especially underneath nearly 270 pounds of wrestler.

He’s belt-less and motivated. At age 34, Lesnar is once again an underdog in the sport, and after his successful return to the UFC on Friday night, he’ll once again be a challenger for the heavyweight crown.

In case you weren’t already sure, yesterday’s UFC 141 weigh-in confirmed it. The main event between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem features two really, really big men.

Lesnar weighed in at 266 pounds, while Overeem came in at 263. That’s 529 total pounds that will hit the Octagon tonight. Basically, you might feel some minor earthquakes if you are anywhere near Las Vegas.

After the two weighed in, they had a short but intense staredown. Lesnar then quickly left the stage as he skipped the post-weigh-in interview. It was over perhaps as quickly as the fight between the two men will be over.

Other than that, there wasn’t a whole lot out of the ordinary during yesterday’s weigh-in. Nate Diaz, however, missed the lightweight limit of 155 pounds.

His enemy, Donald Cerrone, actually agreed to re-work the contract and said that Diaz didn’t have to cut anymore weight.

Nevertheless, Diaz got it done and the heated fight is ready to go. The staredown resulted in a near brawl. It’s a good thing Diaz got his weight down and the two are ready to go, because this is going to be an exciting fight fueled by hate.

Here’s a look at the official weigh-in results:

Main Card (Pay-per-view)

Brock Lesnar (266) vs. Alistair Overeem (263
