Brock Lesnar knows a thing or two about overcoming adversity.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has battled back from two cases of diverticulitis that nearly ended his fighting career.
Now that he has a clean bill of health, Lesnar is reinvigorated in his pursuit to recapture the UFC title and climb back to the top of the heavyweight ranks.
At UFC 141, former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will be the man standing in his way.
“I’m knocking on the door to being the UFC heavyweight champion again,” Lesnar said in his pre-fight interview for UFC 141. “I got this fight against Alistair, and this guy is not going to stand in my way. There’s no way in hell that I’m going to let that happen.”
Overeem has been wreaking havoc in the heavyweight division as of late. He is currently riding a 10-fight win streak, with his most recent victories coming over Fabricio Werdum, Todd Duffee and Brett Rogers.
While UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos certainly makes a case, Overeem is widely recognized as the best striker in the entire heavyweight division, but all of the accolades in the world won’t faze Lesnar when the cage door closes.
“He’s very versatile on his feet, and he’s got a long range, both with his hands and legs,” admitted Lesnar. “I don’t care how many fights he’s had. I don’t care where his career has been. When the door shuts and it’s time to go, he’ll know really quickly that he’s got a fight on his hands.”
After nearly losing everything, Lesnar has refocused his training in his time away from the sport. Filled with a new purpose, he plans on making an example out of Overeem and beginning his road back to the heavyweight title.
“In my mind, I think he’s in over his head,” said Lesnar. “He doesn’t understand the beast that he’s going to enter the Octagon with.”

In less than two weeks, the mixed martial arts juggernaut in the UFC will venture back to the the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
There, a heavyweight collision will headline the UFC 141 pay-per-view event, as former champions Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem step into the cage opposite of one another in order to determine the next No. 1 contender to the title.
However, along with this blockbuster battle, several other fights will be gracing the main card that hold a certain level of significance when it comes to all around appeal and validity in their respective divisions.

At UFC 141, Alistair Overeem will be making his heavily anticipated UFC debut. In his first fight, he will not be given an easy fight, he will be taking on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
Many people have counted out Lesnar due to his inactivity, but one thing that is for sure, the Lesnar camp has been very quiet, and the small interactions that have come from the camp have had nothing but positives to describe Lesnar, since he is now able to train to his true potential.
Alistair is always a favorite to win, based off of his look alone. He arguably has the best physique in the sport, but that being said, looks can be deceiving.
Since his lackluster performance against Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem has been in the middle of controversy. He was “expected” to KO Werdum, but instead was out-struck and according to fight metric lost the fight, but since Werdum attempted to pull guard many times it gave Overeem the win. In the fight, Overeem gassed very quickly and the whole time was hesitant to attack because he feared the take down.
Overeem has the experience advantage in this fight, but in 47 professional fights, he has only faced top competition 11 times, posting a 3-8 record in that span. Many people credit the submission game of Overeem since he has 19 submission wins, but when those wins are broken down, only one of those wins was against a man worth crediting in that area, and that is Vitor Belfort, but another notable is Igor Vovchanchyn.
Alistair Overeem is the Strikeforce Heavyweight and the K-1 World Grand Prix Champion. He won the Strikeforce belt against Paul Buentello, and only defended it once against Brett Rogers, whom just lost a fight with UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez.
Going into the Grand Prix, Overeem had a 5-4 record and was part of arguably the smallest talent pool in the history of this legendary tourney. Overeem defeated injury-ridden opponents and once the tourney was over, he became a self-proclaimed legend.
Since the Werdum fight, he has left Golden Glory, signed with the UFC, decided to sue Golden Glory, almost not been licensed due to leaving the country to be with his sick mother the day he was set to be drug tested and he almost got pulled from his fight with Lesnar.
Those reasons alone are tough for any man to be able to focus on a fight. The fact that he is in Holland training and not at Xtreme Couture working hard on his wrestling is not a very good thing to do. Throughout his career, Alistair has never faced a wrestler, let alone a man with the size, strength, speed and cardio that Lesnar possesses.
Lately in MMA, there have been some striker vs. wrestler fights. Chael Sonnen vs Brian Stann and John Makdessi vs Dennis Hallman. They both ended the same, with the wrestler playing to their strengths and getting the win.
If Lesnar gets Overeem to the ground, it is going to be a long night for Alistair.
In your debut for the biggest company in all of mixed martial arts, the last thing you need is to face a man who’s biggest strength is your biggest weakness, and all of the distractions that Overeem has faced as of late are no help at all.
Lesnar has his new share of legal battles based on hunting charges, but he has elected to have his case postponed until mid-January.
The return of Lesnar and the debut of Overeem. Winner gets Junior Dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Be sure to tune in Friday, December 30, 2011 live on PPV to see who will get themselves one step closer to becoming UFC Champion.

Mixed martial arts fans have been treated to some of the best heavyweight fighting action ever in 2011 and the picture is heating up towards New Year’s Eve with the colossal battle between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
From the epic scramble and roll between Mir and Nogueira to the bombing overhand right to Velasquez’s temple that won Junior Dos Santos the title, the division holds some exciting matchups for fans to want to see in the future,
With the recent news that Strikeforce will dissolve it’s heavyweight’s and almost all the best big men will be fighting under one promotional roof for the first time in history, the question remains who is the Best Heavyweight MMA Fighter Of All Time?

The 2011 World MMA Awards officially hold the UFC 125 clash between the now-undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and formerly-undefeated Gray “The Bully” Maynard as the “MMA Fight of 2011” but the year is not yet over in the fastest-growing combat sport in the world.
After Strikeforce’s year-ending card this Saturday featuring Gilbert Melendez vs. Jorge Masvidal, only DREAM’s New Year’s Eve card and UFC 141 exist as the last two major MMA events of 2011, which obviously creates a question of whether we will see the true “Fight of The Year” between this Saturday and New Year’s Eve.
Rest assured, we will see at least one fight earn the argument for the true “Fight of 2011” honor, but despite the grappling showcases, the modern MMA classics and epic slugfests that will close out 2011 in Saitama on New Year’s Eve, it’s what we will see December 30th in Las Vegas before the potential shoo-in for the UFC’s final “Knockout of The Night” bonus winner of 2011.
As great as the Alistair Overeem-Brock Lesnar bout should be, it’s Donald Cerrone’s co-headliner with Nate Diaz that could bring 2011 to its most fitting close.
The stylistic bout is an MMA fan’s ideal masterpiece, with Diaz showcasing sick boxing and punching power to combat Cerrone’s patience, aggression and precise Muay Thai offense.
Despite being a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Diaz has found success on the ground and against a guy like Cerrone, the color of the belt might not mean as much as the proven evidence of what Diaz can do with his Jiu-Jitsu.
If you got the quick, almost-ten minutes worth of the preview of the Countdown to UFC 141, though, the difference between a win for Cerrone and a win for Diaz might be the aggression factor.
Cerrone has not had as passionate a dislike for someone before a fight since his WEC 51 bout with one Jamie Varner but, before Diaz, the heaviest trash talk has been reserved for guys like Cole Miller and, for a brief moment, Mac Danzig.
However, it’s possible that by shaking off a classy gesture from Cerrone at an open workout for UFC 141, Diaz, known famously (or infamously) for not wanting to be too friendly with his opponents before the cage door locks, may have sparked up an old, familiar fire in Cerrone,
All the more reason to ask: can Cerrone keep his cool against Diaz? Or can Diaz stop the momentum train of an over-hyped (meaning over-excited) Cerrone?
Combine the stylistic match-up with the heated confrontation which seems to have fueled the Cerrone fire and it just might have everything it needs to create an argument for Fight of The Year.
Of course, if all else fails, there’s always Edgar-Maynard 1 but, with the end of the year approaching, it’s always possible that the last UFC Lightweight bout of 2011 somehow edges out the first UFC Lightweight Title bout of 2011 as the most exciting and most must-see-to-believe bout of this calendar year.

According to FightersOnly.com, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar failed to make an appearance in a Canadian courtroom to answer questions after violating hunting laws in Alberta last year.
Lesnar, who is preparing for his upcoming bout against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141, did not appear in a courtroom in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and he is charged on three counts of violating the Alberta Wildlife Act.
“A whitetail deer was found in the possession of the taxidermist and was not tagged, and as a result of that, an investigation ensued,” Alberta Sustainable Resource Development spokesman Darcy Whiteside told the Calgary Herald.
Lesnar, who is an avid hunter, owns property in Alberta and frequently visits on his down-time.
With Lesnar having failed to make a court appearance, the court date has been pushed back to January 19, 2012.
If Lesnar is found guilty, he could face up to a year in prison.
