While there may or may not be much of a chance that the rumored Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing match actually happens (depending on who you ask), that certainly doesn’t mean that those close to either side won’t hype up whom they think would win.

With speculation running wild, Mayweather Jr.’s father Floyd continued to discuss the potentially huge super fight in a recent interview on the Mayweather Boxing Channel.

Mayweather Sr. seems to insist that the bout could actually take place, and the magnitude of it would shock everyone if and when it did. Asked to compare it to Mayweather’s monstrous but ultimately lackluster super fight with Manny Pacquiao, and the boxig legend’s father said McGregor vs. Mayweather would be much bigger:

“I think it would be bigger than Pacman and Floyd. You just wait and see.”

If the incredibly speculative fight were to go down now that McGregor has been pulled from his main event rematch with Nat Diaz at UFC 200, Mayweather Sr. gave the Irishman absolutely no chance of even making it competitive with his undefeated son:

“Zero percent. I’m not going to say that it would be the quickest knockout of Floyd’s career. I’m not gonna say that. But it would be one of the most humiliating fights that anyone could see.”

A similar sentiment seems to be the general consensus of most, with the majority picking Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match and McGregor in a MMA fight, and both by a wide margin. That viewpoint apparently has Mayweather Sr. excited about the prospect of seeing his son potentially demolish McGregor in a boxing ring:

“Oh hell yes. It’s an easy test. You know what Floyd’s gonna do.”

Quite the confidence from Mayweather Jr.’s camp, and you certainly wouldn’t expect anything less. Watch the full interview with Mayweather Sr. right here:

At this weekend’s (Sat., May 14, 2016) UFC 198 from the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil, Invicta FC featherweight champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino will finally make her long-awaited UFC debut when she takes on Leslie Smith in a 140-pound catchweight bout as part of a massive blockbuster card.

Many feel as if “Cyborg’s” UFC debut has been more than a long time coming, as she was caught up in a highly-publicized media feud with former UFC champion Ronda Rousey, where the age-old debate raged on about whom was the most dominant female fighter on the planet when “Rowdy” ruled the women’s bantamwight division with an iron fist.

Now that she’s lost the belt, however, “Cyborg’s” path in the UFC is a little less clear, and there’s at least one onlooker who doesn’t believe it will be a great one. That person is Justino’s ex-husband, MMA veteran Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, who just made his Bellator debut with a submission of Brennan Ward in late April.

Conor McGregor

During a recent talk with MMA Fighting, Santos unveiled his discord with UFC brass, proclaiming that they only promoted their two main stars Conor McGregor and Rousey. He had some harsh words for both ‘The Notorious’ and the currently quiet ‘Rowdy,’ in addition to some seething statements about their employers:

“They treat fighters like dogs to promote their events and make money. They only promote (Conor) McGregor, this piece of sh-t. And Ronda (Rousey) was created by the media. Cris destroys her. They should have signed Cris a long time ago. She’s the best in the world, there’s no one to beat her. She’s a warrior who never gives up, but these douchebags in the UFC spent years making fun of her. The UFC is full of douchebags. The way they treat fighters is ridiculous. I never wanted to fight in the UFC for any money. They are destroying the sport.”

As for his ex-wife Justino, Santos believes that the UFC doesn’t truly want her, but had to give into fan outreach to see her in the octagon. If they truly did, according to Santos, they would have simply created a 145-pound division for her:

“The UFC doesn’t want her there. They put her there because fans demanded, but they don’t want her there. If they truly wanted her, they would have created her weight division. They opened a division they knew she would never be able to fight at. If they say ‘we want 100 girls for a 145-pound division’, they would get it immediately. But they don’t want that. They know that Cris would overshadow their plans with Ronda.”

Some bold claims, but Santos was far from done there. Read on to the next page to see his harsh criticism about Rousey and how the UFC handled her ‘rivalry’ with Justino.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm continues to deal with what some would call a controversial choice when she decided to trust the word of Lenny Fresquez as her full-time manager when she made the transition from boxing to MMA.

In the eyes of some, like UFC President Dana White, Fresquez is vaguely akin to Screech from Saved By The Bell; not many people care for him, but he’s always around because he’s friendly with the important people.

Fresquez is no stranger to making headlines, but it’s generally for all the wrong reasons. If you’re wondering why his name is currently ringing a bell, it’s most likely due to his recent verbal tussle with Dana White over his alleged “mismanagement” of Holm’s contract and fight schedule.

Earlier this year, after Holm’s November 2015 decimation of then-champion Ronda Rousey, Fresquez and White experienced some discord over against whom Holm should make her first title defense, Miesha “Cupcake” Tate or a rematch with “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.

Fresquez, as any competent manager would, wanted what his client wanted; what they thought was best for Holm. They wanted to stay active and take the best, most challenging fight available to keep her sharp for her ‘eventual’ title rematch with “Rowdy.” That, as history shows, happened to be Miesha Tate, which turned out to be a very poor decision.

But as they say, hindsight is always 20/20.

White, on the other hand, wanted what any sane and savvy businessman/promoter would want; for the fighter that dethroned the UFC’s golden queen to await the rematch that would surely turn out to be not only a behemoth moneymaker, but a pre-fight build-up unprecedented by any other blockbuster fight in UFC history. In other words, the company — and both fighters involved — would make a ton of cash.

Unswayed by White’s insistence, Fresquez and Holm opted to stay active and give themselves a good old fashioned warm-up fight against Miesha Tate, a useful practice bout before she “inevitably” stepped back into the cage to defend the title she pried from the ice-cold clutches of Rousey.

Unsurprisingly, “Cupcake” did not take very well to this news, and deservedly so, she aired her frustrations to Joe Rogan while a guest on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, on Thursday (May 5, 2016).

The UFC did not want that fight to happen. Dana flew out to Albuquerque and told them ‘don’t fight Miesha Tate…Ronda’s the money fight.’ They wanted the [Holm vs. Rousey] rematch to be the first [title] defense. And Holly’s manager told him ‘we want Miesha Tate’, Dana said he threw up his hands and was like ‘are you f*cking kidding me, other than Ronda she’s been the baddest for years now and you want to take her lightly? You think you’re just going to walk through her?’ And he [Fresquez] was like ‘yeah we got this, she’s going to be a tune-up fight. He told Dana that I was going to be a tune-up fight…he’s an idiot.”

“Cupcake” was spot on. She submitted “The Preacher’s Daughter” via rear-naked choke late in the fifth round of their co-main event title fight at UFC 196 on March 5, undoubtedly using the motivation provided by Fresquez’s patronizing words to squeeze just a little bit tighter and secure her astonishing victory.

Let this be a lesson to all managers (and fighters) out there, that any fighter skilled and tough enough to make it all the way to the most talent-rich, prestigious organization in the world is not a tune-up fight and should never, ever be taken that lightly.

It’s no secret that the UFC’s top two undisputed stars may appear to be losing it a bit after two devastating losses in their last two respective bouts.

Yet while Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor are currently being heaped with criticism following two different kinds of outbursts, it’s not surprising to understand once one simply takes a look at the insurmountable pressure, media attention, hype, and time-consuming obligations were piled upon their shoulders in mass quantities.

That’s not to make excuses for either one, because as truly polarizing and unique fighters in their own right, they had built a large following of both passionate fans and fervent haters. One side tuned in to see them win emphatically as they always had before, and one side tuned in to for the small chance of hopefully seeing them lose. For a while, that game worked absolutely to perfection as Rousey and McGregor talked themselves up to clearly unattainable levels, and it worked because they backed it up in the Octagon with one seemingly endless stoppage after another.

But occupying that rarified air as a transcendent and one-of-a-kind superstar in the fight game is a tenuous position at best, and all of that came crashing down when Rousey lost to a vicious Holly Holm head kick at UFC 193 and McGregor was submitted by Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout four months later at March 5’s UFC 196.

USATSI_9172301_168382968_lowres

Both ‘Rowdy’ and ‘Notorious’ stayed the undisputed top two stars in MMA, a backing sentiment to their true drawing power and overall scope, but it would obviously be impossible to say at least one coat of shine hadn’t been stripped away from their sleek sports cars on those nights. They’re still human, after all.

This week, however, it seems as if their somewhat troubling reactions to the losses have the once-confident superstars in the strangest spots of their otherwise spotless careers in the UFC.

RouseyCussesOutPaige1A

Rousey made headlines for supposedly blowing up with a profanity-laced tirade on strawweight Paige VanZant at a Reebok event because she had congratulated on Holm for beating her, something PVZ soon confirmed. McGregor has obviously been embroiled in his drawn-out ‘retirement’ saga that found him pulled out of his UFC 200 main event rematch with Diaz for refusing to attend a press conference.

The drama has been poured on thick by both sides; however, at this point it’s a legitimate question as to whether McGregor should just keep his mouth shut and stay off of social media for now. Case in point, he showed up with an Instagram post of him throwing an uppercut at the UFC 196 open workouts with a caption touting its effectiveness in his bout with Diaz, a true point.

USATSI_9161418_168382968_lowres

Yet it’s also a bit of clutching at straws, as it was a fight he was later battered and gassed before tapping out to a brutal finishing hold. Diaz walked through his punches that night, and now, it’s starting to appear he also walked through his once-indestructible psyche. McGregor had absolutely no problem doing each and every conference with gusto when he was knocking out much smaller fighters in every bout.

Again, not to take away from his accomplishments, because he’s been nothing but dominant at 145 pounds. But he and his employers may have built him up to an unachievable level that includes the rigorous and eventually exhausting promotional whirlwind it subjected he and Rousey to.

Rousey’s side of the story is a bit different. Read on to the next page to find out why.

Ronda Rousey Allegedly Cusses Out Paige VanZant At Reebok Event

It’s hardly a secret that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate doesn’t like former champion Ronda Rousey, but it was an unknown that ‘Rowdy’ had a problem with rising 11-pound talent Paige VanZant. It’s hardly a secret that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate doesn’t like former champion Ronda Rousey, but it was an unknown that ‘Rowdy’ had a problem with rising 11-pound talent Paige VanZant.

And apparently VanZant didn’t know that she did, either, as Tate revealed on today’s episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast that Rousey supposedly cornered ’12 Gauge’ at a recent Reebok event when she only wanted to take a picture with the popular but downtrodden former champ. With a rematch with Rousey potentially on the horizon, Tate recalled the story that VanZant told her:

“We were at a Reebok deal recently, we were at a shoot and I was trying to find her [Ronda] so I could get a picture, and the Reebok people said don’t ask Ronda for a picture. Stay away from Ronda don’t ask her for a picture.”

It may seem a strange request, as Rousey is obviously quite used to be the center of attention in many photographs thanks to her booming movie career and countless magazine photo shoots. But apparently her disdain towards VanZant centers on the young fighter’s reaction to her shocking loss to Holly Holm at last November’s UFC 193, an event that sent Rousey into a sort of self-imposed media seclusion.

You’d think that Rousey and VanZant share a common bond in that they’re the most recognized fighters in their respective divisions in terms of corssover appeal, with Rousey a movie star in several films and VanZant currently leading the ucrrent season of ‘Dancing With The Stars.’

Yet that seems to be very far from the case.

According to Tate, Rousey sought VanZant out and lashed out at her for congratulating Holm on beating ‘Rowdy’ for the belt:

“Ronda found her later that day and cussed her out. I guess Ronda said to her, ‘Fuck you your fair weather bitch. How dare you cross me? You congratulated Holly Holm for beating me, so fuck you, you fucking fair weather 115-pound fighter.’ Paige came to me and told me, and I was like well, welcome to my world.”

Indeed Tate does know what it’s like to be in that world, as she first made her archrival champion when she lost to Rousey back in Strikeforce in 2012 before engaging in a heated back-and-forth war of words when the two served as opposing coaches at 2013’s The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 before facing off for a second time at UFC 168 that year.

Rousey notched her second straight armbar finish of Tate at that event, but it’s largely thought that version of ‘Rowdy’ is gone, at least for now, while Tate continues her ascension of improvement with five straight wins capped off by her emphatic fifth-round submission of the woman who beat Rousey at UFC 196.

That means they could meet for a third time in the near future if Rousey does decide to return. And when she does, it appears she’s going to have more female fighters on her ‘naughty list’ than just Tate.
