Nate Diaz Is The Perfect Opponent For Conor McGregor At UFC 196

For the second time in seven months, a champion has pulled out a fight against Conor McGregor (19-2). The main event is now in jeopardy with reports coming out that Rafael Dos Anjos (25-7) is out of UFC 196 with a broken foot. McGregor is now left without an opponent.

Many have speculated Donald Cerrone as a potential replacement. “Cowboy” is coming off of a 1st round submission victory on Sunday in a Welterweight bout against Alex Oliveira. Cerrone’s camp JacksonWink MMA has even went onto Twitter to push for the fight.

However, a better and stylistically entertaining fight to make for the Irishman is Nate Diaz(18-10). Diaz is coming off of an impressive unanimous decision win over Michael Johnson (16-10). He showed his crisp boxing in that fight by cutting angles and consistently landing combinations. The Stockton native landed 153 strikes against Johnson.

McGregor vs. Diaz could be a standup war where we see a kickboxer vs. boxer type of matchup. Also, for the first time ever in the UFC, “The Notorious” would be facing someone with a longer reach than him. Diaz has a 76 inch reach compared to McGregor’s 74 inch reach. That alone would make the bout intriguing.

Although Diaz has stayed quiet, some have went onto Twitter to campaign for the fight to happen.

According to multiple reports, UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos suffered a broken foot in training recently and will not be cleared to compete at UFC 196 vs. Conor McGregor.

Dos Anjos, who defended his title in December vs. Donald Cerrone, will likely be sidelined indefinitely with the injury.

McGregor, the current UFC featherweight titleholder, could still remain on the March 5 card if a replacement is found.

We’ll continue to update the situation here at MMANews.com.

Former UFC Fighter: Conor McGregor F***s Up Robbie Lawler

In less than two weeks, surging UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to become the first simultaneous two-wight belt holder when he squares off with similarly dominant lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of March 5’s UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

And while that may seem like a momentous challenge in and of itself, ‘The Notorious’ has actually set his sights on the next weight class up without even defending his featherweight belt or winning the lightweight strap, constantly aiming for a shot at a third UFC championship against welterweight king Robbie Lawler if and when he gets past ‘RDA.’

It would seem that McGregor is setting himself to be destroyed by the resurgent former Strikeforce middleweight champion ‘Ruthless,’ who has defeated Carlos Condit, Rory MacDonald, Johny Hendricks, and Matt Brown in his last four fights to sit alone atop the coveted and illustrious 170-pound throne. However, the two actually match up physically al ot closer than you might think, as Lawler is 5’11” with a 74-in. reach while McGregor is 5’9″ with the exact 74-in. reach.

Fighting Lawler for the belt would be a challenge that’s simply too good to pass up, especially at the promotion’s blockbuster UFC 200 card on July 9. Many will most likely be picking ‘Ruthless’ if it does happen, but there’s at least one former fighter who thinks McGregor would handle Lawler rather easily.

During a recent discussion with Joe Rogan, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who fell out of favor in large due to his controversial comments about the UFC’s uniform sponsorship deal with Reebok, spoke up with the stance that McGregor would “f*** Lawler up” because he couldn’t touch McGregor:

“I’m gonna say something crazy, Joe. Are you ready for this? I think the toughest match-up possible for McGregor in the UFC is Dos Anjos. I think the easier fight for him is Robbie Lawler. Robbie’s not gonna touch him. Not a chance. I think he f**ks Robbie up, and I love Robbie! Style wise he f**ks Robbie up.”

Those are quite the bold words from Schaub, who, since his unceremonious exit from the UFC, has not been shy about spouting off with outspoken statements surrounding topics from his relationship with Ronda Rousey to all things McGregor.

Yet he was more in line with the school of thought that McGregor was actually scared of jose Aldo heading into their awaited showdown at last year’s UFC 194, so now it appears that he’s jumped aboard the ‘Notorious’ hype train after he shockingly knocked Aldo out in 13 seconds.

There’s no denying that McGregor has taken the UFC and MMA as a whole by storm like no other athlete ever has, and he truly might make history if he finishes an extremely difficult in dos Anjos at UFC 196. However, without a title defense and work still to be done at both featherweight and lightweight, predicting that he would destroy a steamrolling champion like Lawler with ease might be a sensational and outlandish statement at this point.

what do you think? Do you agree with Schaub’s assessment that McGregor would become a three-weight class champion with ease?

Following last year’s successful “Go Big” campaign to kick-off and promote the first few months of a stacked first quarter of fights UFC had lined up, the promotion will be repeating the promotional practice as a way of introducing and hyping up their 2016 second quarter, which is a stacked chunk of time in its’ own right.

UFC issued a press release this week to announce their “UFC: Unstoppable” global launch, which is officially scheduled to kick off with a major press conference loaded with superstar talent on March 4, 2016 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a smart strategic move, UFC scheduled the beginning of their “Unstoppable” global launch on the 3/4 date in Vegas, which is exactly when and where the official UFC 196 weigh-ins will be taking place.

UFC will piggy-bank off of the expected significant audience that will already be tuned in to watch the final stop for Conor McGregor, Rafael dos Anjos, Holly Holm and Miesha Tate before the foursome do battle in the UFC 196 main and co-main events.

Officially announced to attend the “Unstoppable” global launch on the eve of UFC 196 thus far are Dana White, Junior Dos Santos, Ben Rothwell, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson, Henry Cejudo, Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman. Additional names are expected to be officially announced later this week.
