Former UFC light heavyweight champion and current pound-for-pound king Jon Jones took a shot at his upcoming opponent, reigning champion Daniel Cormier, with a hilarious Instagram picture yesterday (March 1, 2016), pitting “DC” as fictional character Carl Winslow.

The back and forth jabs have continued, as Cormier has fired back with an Instagram post of his own today (March 2, 2016).

Using the same UFC 197 fight poster, the champion once against blasted Jones’ troubled history with banned substances.

Oddly enough, “DC” has since deleted the post.

Since suffering the first professional loss of his career to Jones at January 2015’s UFC 182, Cormier has picked up back to back victories over Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafssson, fights in which he successfully won and then defended the title.

“Bones”, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since. He was actually scheduled to fight “Rumble”, but he was forced out of the bout, stripped of his title, and suspended after being arrested on felony hit-and-run charges in New Mexico last April.

The former champion has since avoided jail time and been reinstated by the UFC. He has also seemingly found a new sense of motivation and focus, and he will attempt to regain his title when he faces off with Cormier for a second time on April 23, 2016.

How do you see the rematch playing out?

Jon Jones Mocks ‘Carl Winslow’ Cormier

The back and forth social media jabs have continued between reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier and former divisional ring leader Jon “Bones” Jones. This time, it was Jones who took to his official Instagram account to mock Cormier, replacing the champion with fictional character Carl Winslow in the UFC 197 fight poster.

Despite the banter, “Bones” doesn’t believe any true animosity lies between he and Cormier leading up to their highly anticipated rematch on April 23, 2016. Possessing one of the deepest rivalries in the history of the sport, however, that remains subject to change:

“Right now there isn’t any (animosity), but I’m sure when I see him, things will ramp up a bit,” Jones recently told MMAjunkie. “I haven’t really thought about it at all. I’ve been in the UFC for so many years now, so it can’t be anything too different than what I’ve experienced. I’m excited to just take it as it comes.”

The circumstances surrounding the rematch are a bit unusual in the way that although Jones isn’t the current champion, he did indeed beat “DC” quite convincingly when they first met back in January 2015.

Too Jones, this bout simply marks the chance to regain the title he had stripped from him after being arrested on felony hit and run charges last April.

In fact, a rematch with Swedish star Alexander Gustafsson, who had “Bones” on the brink of defeat back in 2013, holds more weight to the ex-champion:

“I have those feelings a little more with Gustafsson than I do with Daniel,” Jones said. “I already beat (Cormier) by unanimous decision, so I don’t really have this feeling where I have to put him away or get rid of him once and for all. I just need to fight him because he has the belt right now. That’s really what this is all about for me. I feel that way more about Gustafsson. I really need to fight him again just to get rid of all doubt.”

Do you see Jones getting passed Cormier and once again locking horns with “The Mauler”?

Jon Jones Mocks Cormier: I Failed For Coke & Still Beat You!

After settling a plethora of legal issues that forced the UFC to strip him of his long-held title, former light heavyweight kingpin Jon “Bones” Jones is now gearing up to make his highly anticipated return against bitter rival and reigning champion Daniel Cormier at April 23’s UFC 197.

The two men originally met at January 2015’s UFC 182 with Jones then the champion. After an illustrious build up that featured relentless trash talk and clear bad blood, “Bones” walked away with a convincing decision victory.

Heading into the rematch, the rivalry between the two has not died down one bit.

Going back and forth on social media recently, Cormier published a meme last night (February 25, 2016), taking a shot at Jones’ troubled past with banned substances, specifically the fact that “Bones” failed an out of competition drug test for cocaine metabolites surrounding UFC 182.

Check out “DC’s” jab below:

While the champion seemed to have initiated the action, Jones may have got the final laugh, taking to his twitter to make it clear that he had taken out Cormier even after failing a drug test.

Jones has since deleted the tweet, but check out the picture below:

Do you expect a different outcome when the two men meet for a second time?

Jones-Cormier Trade Verbal Jabs Yet Again, D.C. Insinuates “Bones” Isn’t Off Of Drugs

While many in the MMA community are focused on this weekend’s Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping fight and next weekend’s UFC 196 main event between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones are reminding fans about the upcoming rematch of one of the biggest grudge matches of 2015.

While the biggest grudge match of 2015 would have to be considered Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo, the Jones-Cormier showdown in January wasn’t far behind at all. In fact, when 2015 began, it seemed impossible to top the pre-fight tension shared between “Bones” Jones and D.C.

With 2016 still getting started, there are a host of grudge matches already scheduled, two of which will come and go within the next 8 days with UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Bisping scheduled for this Saturday evening and UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz taking place next Saturday.

Having said that, Jones and Cormier are back at each other’s throats on social media, with each man taking shots at the other recently.

The latest round of pre-fight trash-talk began when the following post was made, with Jones mocking the fact that D.C. is referred to as the “undisputed” UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Obviously this is in reference to the fact that Cormier won a vacant title that was only up for grabs because Jones was stripped of the title for his personal hit-and-run incident as opposed to losing a fight inside the Octagon.

While it took a few days to respond, Cormier acknowledged Jones’ social media meme in one post where he pointed out that his family showed him the photo as a way to explain his tardy response before ultimately firing back with a visual shot of his own.

Cormier took Jones’ crack about his championship status one-level further, as he went the personal route in taking a shot at Jones’ claims that he is now sober. The recognized UFC 205-pound champion posted the following:

UFC 197: Cormier vs. Jones II is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Make sure to visit MMANews.com on 4/23 for the best live UFC 197 round-by-round results coverage on the web!
