Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will make his return about a month after originally planned, taking on Corey Anderson at UFC 198.

The light heavyweight contest has been added to the May 14 event that features heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic.

Rua (23-10) was expected to face Rashad Evans in April, but a knee injury caused his removal. He was replaced by Glover Teixeira in the contest.

The Brazilian is coming off a much-needed victory over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira last August, his first win since 2013. Rua is 2-4 over his last six.

Anderson (8-1) was a heavyweight winner on The Ultimate Fighter and pushed his win streak to three in a row with a controversial decision vs. Tom Lawlor earlier this month. He is 5-1 over his UFC career, losing only to Gian Villante.

No. 5-ranked former UFC heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos suffered a brutal TKO loss in his last bout to Alistair Overeem last December.

Despite the loss, however, Dos Santos’ title hopes haven’t been completely killed just yet given the wide open landscape of the UFC’s heavyweight division.

In fact, the Brazilian slugger owns wins over both men competing in the next title fight at May’s UFC 198, champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum and contender Stipe Miocic.

Since returning to the UFC in 2012, Werdum has rattled off an impressive six straight wins including four finishes. While noting his recent success along with his world class ground game, Dos Santos actually sees “Vai Cavlo” running into trouble against Miocic, especially if the fight plays out on the feet:

“Werdum has evolved a lot, he impressed in the few times he fought. He has evolved a lot,” dos Santos told MMAFighting.com. “His ground game is the best in the heavyweight division, no question about it. He has what it takes to keep the belt for a good time, but he’s facing a tough opponent next. Miocic has that knockout punch. I was completely dizzy a few moments when we fought. He has that punch, and his stand-up is more complete and better than Werdum’s.

“I don’t see how… Werdum is excellent on the ground, but I don’t see him taking anyone down. If the fight stays standing, I see Miocic as the favorite. If it goes to the ground, it’s going to be fast. But I see Miocic as the favorite standing. Comparing their qualities, I don’t see Werdum taking him down, so it’s going to be a stand-up fight and Miocic has an advantage.”

Miocic has scored back to back finishes over Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski, and has won five of his last six with his only loss in that stretch coming to, you guessed it, Dos Santos.

“Cigano” also has a fight of his own lined up, as he’s set to meet surging contender Ben Rothwell in the main event of UFC Fight Night 86 next month.

As for his future, Dos Santos feels as if the state of the heavyweight divisional is beneficial to the fighters, admitting that his only goal is to regain the throne:

“I think it’s great that I already beat the two guys in the next title fight,” he said. “I think it’s great that the division is stacked. When you have someone holding the belt for so long… It’s positive in a way, yes, but the division is in a good moment.

“I don’t care that much about rankings, and that doesn’t matter that much in the UFC too,” he continued. “What really matters is which fight sells more at the moment. I want to move forward and get to my goals. My main goal is to become world champion again, and I know I’m capable of doing that, but I need to earn a title shot first, and I might need two or three fights. But I’m capable of doing that.”

Do you ever see “Cigano” climbing back up the mountain?

While former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos admits that current UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum has improved a lot over the years, he is still giving the edge to the challenger, Stipe Miocic, in the next UFC Heavyweight title fight.

Dos Santos spoke with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com and explained why he feels Miocic has the advantage over Werdum heading into their scheduled showdown at UFC 198 in Werdum’s home country of Brazil.

“Werdum has evolved a lot, he impressed in the few times he fought. He has evolved a lot. His ground game is the best in the heavyweight division, no question about it. While he still has to get past Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 86 on April 10th, JDS admits that he feels good knowing that he holds wins over the two fighters who will be competing in the next UFC Heavyweight title bout.

UFC 198

Featherweights Zubaira Tukhugov and Renato Moicano have agreed to square off this May at UFC 198, officials announced.

The event takes place May 14 from the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. The main event pits Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title.

Tukhugov (18-3) is a perfect 3-0 since signing with the UFC. The 25-year-old Chechen-born Russian scored a victory over Phillipe Nover to close out 2015.

Moicano (9-0-1) is on his second stint with the promotion, as he earned a victory over Tom Niinimaki back in 2014. The 26-year-old holds five career submission wins to his credit.

Along with the title fight, Vitor Belfort faces Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Matt Brown meets Demian Maia that night.

After becoming the first fighter to force Josh Barnett to tap out to a submission hold in a pro MMA fight, “Big” Ben Rothwell is aiming his submission-sights even higher.

Rothwell claims that if he ever gets a UFC Heavyweight Title shot at current champion Fabricio Werdum, fans shouldn’t be shocked to see him pull off such a victory — by way of submission.

“This sport has made me very open minded to anything is possible. Anything can happen, that’s how this sport works, so I just do my very best to prepare for anything,” said Rothwell. “My submissions skills are 16 years in the making. We have a full arsenal: we’re ready to fight off our back, fight on top, it’s what makes me so confident — I know I can win the fight anywhere the fight goes. I couldn’t even tell you how many different submissions I can apply during a fight, so I’m extremely dangerous. If Werdum wants, I’ll lay down on my back and he can hop in my guard.”

Rothwell concluded, “I’m very confident I’ll submit him. If that fight happens, remember me saying this.”

For now, UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum will prepare for his next title defense, which is scheduled for UFC 198 in May against highly regarded contender Stipe Miocic. Meanwhile, Rothwell prepares for arguably the biggest test in his MMA career, as he battles former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos in his next fight at UFC Fight Night 86.
