CM Punk is just 24-hours away from making his highly-anticipated mixed martial arts (MMA) debut at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, and he didn’t take too kindly to his opponent Mickey Gall at weigh-ins Friday evening (August 9, 2016).

When the two adversaries came face-to-face under the bright lights of the weigh-ins stage, Gall’s hand was left extended and alone as Punk refused to shake his 24-year-old counterpart’s hand.

When asked what Gall was saying as the two men exchanged words on stage, courtesy of MMA Fighting, Punk had this to say:

“I don’t know,” Punk said. “He was stuttering. He kept repeating, ‘Oh you don’t want to shake my hand, you don’t want to shake my hand’ or something like that. I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand. I’m here to punch people in the face.

“I think once I had an opponent, once I had a date and once I was free of that damn herniated disc I was walking around with for who knows how long, I was a different person,” said Punk.

“It’s one thing to train, it’s another thing to train with a singular purpose and that’s what I got in Mickey Gall. I know this is a difficult sport to master.

I look forward to mastering it sometime and I realize that will probably never happen, but I will get as good as I possibly can.”

phil-cm-punk-brooks-ufc-203-official-weigh-in-results1[1]Punk looked in surprisingly good shape once he hit the scale, but in regards to his weight cut to 170-pounds, the former WWE champ said that it was the hardest part of his preparation:

“I’m not gonna say it was easy,” Punk said. “There’s a level of difficulty that goes along with it and I’m a fat kid at heart and I love food and that’s obviously the hardest part.”

You can check out a video of Punk and Gall’s stare-down here:

Punk and Gall will meet on the main card of UFC 203 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio tomorrow night (Saturday September 10, 2016).

Legendary Dutch kick boxer Alistair Overeem has held titles in multiple major combat sports promotions including Strikeforce, DREAM, and K-1, but he has yet to get his hands on the UFC heavyweight championship. “The Reem” will finally get the chance to capture UFC gold tomorrow night (September 10, 2016) in the main event of UFC 203 against Stipe Miocic. Overeem will attempt to get the job done in enemy territory as the fight will take place in Miocic’s home of Cleveland, Ohio.

Despite giving up home field advantage, Overeem appears to be supremely confident heading into the bout, and for good reason. The No. 3-ranked heavyweight has won four straight including three stoppage victories over the likes of Stefan Struve, Junior Dos Santos, and Andrei Arlovski. “The Reem” plans to continue his streak against Miocic, and he even went as far to say that he’ll feel ‘sad’ taking the title from the Ohio native:

“What can I say?” Overeem told MMAJunkie. “People are very friendly and very open. I was here during the parade, it was madness. It was good to see a proud state finally accomplish (winning) championships. I almost feel a little bit sad I’m going to take something away from them. But I will be taking that something away this Saturday.”

Overeem will be facing no easy task, however, as the champion has won six of his last seven bouts including four by way of finish.

Who do you see walking away with the heavyweight strap tomorrow night?

After destroying Cain Velasquez at UFC 188 to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum was being talked about as possibly the greatest heavyweight of all-time. His title reign quickly came crashing down, however, as he was brutally knocked out by current champion Stipe Miocic in his first title defense at UFC 198 last May.

Werdum will attempt to bounce back in the co-main event of UFC 203, an event headlined by Miocic defending his strap against Alistair Overeem, tomorrow night (September 10, 2016) when he takes on Travis Browne. “Vai Cavalo” feels as if he should’ve received an immediate rematch with Miocic, but he knows that tomorrow’s bout is now a must win:

“That’s the goal (to finish Browne),” Werdum told MMA Fighting. “I never saw someone say they want to win by decision. I think everybody wants a knockout or a submission. The speech is always the same. The quicker, the better. One minute, one round, two rounds, that’s better. I can’t think differently.

“I need this victory. It’s important for my goal to fight for the title again. I deserved an immediate rematch since I was coming off six wins in a row, but I knew the UFC wouldn’t give it to me. Winning this fight, I will deserve it. I will do everything I can to put on a spectacular fight to earn another title shot.”

Werdum and Browne have actually faced off once before back in 2014 in a fight that “Vai Cavalo” dominated before earning a title shot. Despite owning a win over “Hapa”, however, the Brazilian isn’t heading into the rematch overconfident:

“I can’t be overconfident in this fight,” he said. “I never entered a fight overconfident. My losses were based on things I did in training, and luck also plays out during the fight. I’m coming off a loss so I can’t be overconfident. I might have a slight advantage because I won the last fight, but it’s nothing big.

“It’s not an easy fight just because I defeated him before,” he said. “I can’t underestimate Travis Browne. He’s also coming off a loss so he wants this win to move forward. I’m sure that a win will put me right into a title fight. That’s not the case for him, but he definitely wants to win.”

Do you see Werdum getting back to his winning ways?

Nothing Left But The Tears…

On the Eve of the UFC 203 card, I’m excited. There are a bunch of close matchups here and if you’re a betting man (or woman), good luck making heads or tails of how it’s going to play out this saturday. But before they get down and dirty there’s one more technicality, the weigh ins.

At 6 p.m. tonight, all the fighters under the 203 card will have to undergo a televised weigh in. While the official weigh in was done earlier today, the televised weigh-ins are special because it’s the last time we get to see the fighters interact with the crowd, and even better, the stare down.

While I hate to admit it, CM Punk looked lean and healthy at 170 lbs during the official weigh-ins. Mickey Gall also looked very good at 170.5 lbs, as it seemed both fighters had no trouble making weight. With scraps on the card like Jessica Andrade vs Joanna Calderwood, Werdum vs. Browne, and Faber vs. Rivera, this one’s shaping up to be a no brainer.

Check out the Official weigh-ins below, narrated by Ariel Helwani of the MMA Hour!

Main card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)
Stipe Miocic (246) vs. Alistair Overeem (248.5)
Fabricio Werdum (239.5) vs. Travis Browne (241)
CM Punk (170) vs. Mickey Gall (170.5)
Urijah Faber (136) vs. Jimmie Rivera (135.5)
Jessica Andrade (115.5) vs. Joanne Calderwood (116)

Undercard (FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET)
Jessica Eye (135) vs. Bethe Correia (135)
Nik Lentz (156) vs. Michael McBride (158) (20 percent of purse goes to Lentz)
Caio Magalhaes (185.5) vs. Brad Tavares (186)
CB Dollaway (205) vs. Francimar Barroso (205.5)

Undercard (UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET)
Yancy Medeiros (171) vs. Sean Spencer (170)
Drew Dober (155) vs. Jason Gonzalez (156)
