Much speculation has been made as to the announcement expected to be made by UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor after his next Octagon appearance at UFC 205.

McGregor was granted a lightweight title opportunity against current 155-pound title holder Eddie Alvarez in the main event of the massive Madison Square Garden event, a decision that UFC President Dana White admitted was unfair to interim featherweight champ Jose Aldo and No. 1-ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov:

“Listen, I battled this thing forever. Not only is it not fair to Jose Aldo, it’s not fair to Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and Max Holloway. So, believe me, I battled with this thing but there are . . how can I say this? There are other circumstances involved in this that will be played out after the fight. It’s something completely out of left-field but it’s Conor’s business, it’s not mine, and I’ll let Conor announce it when he’s ready to.”

According to a report from The Irish Sun newspaper, a source close to the Irish champ told them that McGregor is planning to ‘spawn a few world champions’ with longtime girlfriend Dee Devlin, and is ‘determined to take time out’ to settle down with her:

“And after UFC 205 is the perfect time to start. He’s telling people he wants time out. It’s unlikely to be permanent, but the time is right to step back for a while. He knows that if he wins UFC 205 he can always come back in a year or two for a mega money fight. He could name his price. He’ll be back.”

Despite reports that ‘The Notorious One’ is planning on walking away from the sport altogether, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani says otherwise noting that he can ‘assure’ MMA fans McGregor is not walking away:

“He probably would have preferred if Dana didn’t make this sort of vague statement. But I can assure you he’s not retiring.”

Irish MMA Journalist Niall McGrath chimed in as well stating that he wouldn’t be shocked at all if McGregor decided to take some time off from fighting, but notes talk of McGregor wanting to start a family as nothing more than ‘rumours’ at the moment:

“There’s been a lot of speculation that Conor is going to be taking time off and I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. It’s been a long three years for him when you look at the number of fights he’s had — this will be his tenth UFC fight and you’ve also to remember that he missed a year through injury.

“There’s been rumours about wanting to start a family with Dee and settle down after UFC 205 but that’s all they are at the moment. Rumours. I’m not sure if he’ll take a full year off, he’s a prize fighter and he’s money-hungry as we all know.”

The Irish Sun also notes that McGregor’s representatives did not return they’re request for comment on the story.

You’ve met ‘Mystic Mac’, but ladies and gentleman, meet ‘Mystic Ed’.

Ahead of his historic meeting with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 205, UFC 155-pound champ Eddie Alvarez recently spoke to FOX Sports to discuss the upcoming fight in New York.

‘The Underground King’s’ opponent McGregor is known for making some rather accurate predictions when it comes to how and when he’ll finish his opponent in the Octagon, but this time Alvarez took the opportunity to make a prediction of his own:

“I think we do it under the nine-minute mark,” Alvarez said. “Big, big heavy shots, he goes down and then submission.

“I can see it ending much like the (Nate) Diaz fight where I land the heavy shot and then I finish with a submission.”

Alvarez would go on to question the Irishman’s heart inside the Octagon, claiming he knows ‘Notorious’ has some quit in him and he’ll use the massive stage at Madison Square Garden to expose just that to mixed martial arts (MMA) fans worldwide:

“From what I’ve seen in the past and what he’s done in the past, (his heart) is very questionable and I’m not the only one who’s questioned it,” Alvarez said. “I think he has quit in him and I think it takes a tad of adversity and him to get into a little bit of a fight to pull it out of him.

“On November 12, I’m going to pull it out of him and I’m going to show it to millions of people and the crowd. Everybody’s going to see it. We’re going to reveal the quit.”

Alvarez and McGregor will meet in the main event of UFC 205 live on pay-per-view (PPV) for the lightweight title, from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

Junior dos Santos Says Eddie Alvarez Will Beat Conor McGregor

UFC 205 takes place in New York on November 12, and there’s no shortage of great story lines about this event. UFC 205 takes place in New York on November 12, and there’s no shortage of great story lines about this event. After a successful stint at featherweight led Conor McGregor to Jose Aldo at UFC 194, the Irishman stepped up and KO’d ‘Scarface’ in just 13 seconds. McGregor would flip the script and compete twice at welterweight following that bout. Now facing Eddie Alvarez in the UFC 205 main event, ‘The Notorious’ continues to both entertain and frustrate, depending on which side of the fence you are.

‘The Silent Assassin’ comes in to the historic Madison Square Garden off the best performance of his career. Destroying Rafael dos Anjos this past July, Alvarez earned the lightweight belt that is on the line on November 12. Just the debate about Alvarez’s first defense being against McGregor has kept this fight front and centre in the media. Many ramifications lie in wait after UFC 205, predicting which way this algorithmic sequence will play out is anyone’s guess.

 Cigano Weighs In

Pictured above is the brutal uppercut Eddie Alvarez planted during his victorious flurry against Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian grappler turned striker was building steam as one of the greats in the lightweight division, or at least laying the foundation, until meeting ‘the dog’ Alvarez. Stunning the crowds with his dominant performance, ‘The Silent Assassin’ will look to repeat this stellar showing against his brash talking Irish rival at the MSG.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos believes Alvarez has the chops to defeat McGregor at UFC 205. Talking with fans recently during a Q & A session, ‘Cigano’ says it’s a tough pick, but the lightweight champ will come out on top:

“It’s Hard For McGregor To Beat Alvarez”

“Man, I think it’s hard that McGregor can beat Alvarez, you know? His last fight against Nate Diaz that was welterweight division but that showed a lot of him,”dos Santos said.

“I think Alvarez will win this fight you know,” dos Santos said of his pick. “I think Conor McGregor is an excellent fighter, he’s really good but Alvarez man, he just beat dos Anjos and dos Anjos was like the best of this [lightweight] division.

“So, man, Conor McGregor, he doesn’t have a history, doesn’t have any fight in the lightweight division,” dos Santos said. “So, there’s no sense for him to be fighting for the title. Ok, I know he’s a great promoter but I think he should test himself before fighting for the title. But, let’s see. It’s gonna be interesting.”

Philly or Ireland?

Undeniably a huge fight with multiple implications in two divisions, Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor could also seal the direction of the promotion’s future. The first event to be held in New York, a potential two-weight champion, and perhaps the battle of money vs. rankings all weighing down on this main event collision.

Philly or Ireland, who’s it gonna be?
