Coming off of a successful first title defense of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career against longtime rival Dan Henderson, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping must shift his attention to who the next man up to challenge him for the 185-pound throne will be.

‘The Count’ has no shortage of challengers for the gold, as perennial contenders Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza all have fights with on another set to go down in the near future.

Bisping was recently a guest on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour (courtesy of MMA Fightingto discuss his future plans inside the Octagon, and he is well aware of the beasts that await to challenge him for the strap that he has held so proudly since winning it at UFC 199 this past June:

“Obviously it’s got to be one of the big contenders next,” Bisping said. “We’ll see how the chips fall regarding their fights. I think I’d like Weidman, to be honest. If Weidman could get past Romero, that’d be a fight that interests me.

“And seeing that me and Weidman have this rivalry now — I’ve got nothing against Weidman. He likes to talk sh*t about my career, and I’ll do the same on his, but I wish him all the best. Competition aside, he seems like a good guy and good dude. But we’ve been talking a lot, so I guess we’re going to settle it in the Octagon. So if he gets past Yoel Romero, which he’s got his hands full there, but if he does, then yeah, I’ll happily fight him next. I believe he’s a good match-up for me.”

michael-bisping-luke-rockhold-ufc_3478573The Brit captured his first taste of UFC gold when he downed Luke Rockhold, a rematch of their first contest from UFC Fight Night 55 where Rockhold took home the submission win, in the main event of UFC 199 this past June with a thunderous first round knockout that set the MMA world ablaze. After nearly a decade in the sport Bisping had finally realized his dream of becoming a UFC champion.

Now after taking home a highly controversial unanimous decision win over Dan Henderson in his first career title defense earlier this year, the former Ultimate Fighter Winner is ready to get back in the Octagon for yet another title defense.

When it comes to a rubber match with Rockhold, however, Bisping doesn’t see a big money fight in a trilogy bout with Rockhold, who according to Bisping, ‘nobody really cares about’:

“Well, business-wise, nobody really cares about Luke Rockhold,” Bisping said. “Unfortunately, business-wise, nobody cares about Chris Weidman either, so I don’t think either of them really make me that much money, unfortunately. They’re probably the best two guys in the division other than me, and nobody gives a sh*t about them. Nobody gives a damn. That’s why Chris Weidman couldn’t main event a pay-per-view (when he was champion), he was always the co-main event.

“But I’ll just take on the best challengers. I know what people said about the Henderson fight, but the UFC came to me with the match. I didn’t ask for it, so I said yeah, sure. And now I’m happy to take on whoever the true No. 1 contender is, so we’ll see who wins these fights, and whoever it is, I’ll happily fight him. I’ve never ducked a fight in my life.”

Outside of the top four ranked challengers at 185 pounds, a new challenger could be awaiting Bisping in the form of former Strikeforce champ Gegard Mousasi. Mousasi captured a second round TKO victory over Vitor Belfort in the co-main event of UFC 204 earlier this month, the same card Bisping defended his title against Henderson.

After the bout Mousasi made quite the claim to a potential title shot against Bisping, claiming he’d jab his face off en-route to securing the gold:

“Here’s the thing, Mousasi is an incredible fighter,” Bisping said. “He really is. I like the guy. But I just said that Rockhold and Weidman [would do] terrible business. Jesus Christ, I think it would be astronomically bad business at the moment with Mousasi. He just needs another win or two to really get people’s attention. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that long ago that the idiot Uriah Hall got a fluke knockout against him, so that kind of hurt his stock. And Mousasi is incredible, he really is. He’s one of the best underrated fighters in the world.

“He beat Vitor easily and impressively. I think another big-name opponent, or another one or two in there certainly, he would be more of a household name, then I’d be happy to face him when the time comes. But I think right now he needs another tune-up fight.”

Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero will attempt to make a case for the next shot a Bisping when they meet at UFC 205 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

Rockhold will attempt to get his rubber match with Bisping if he is able to make a statement against the fierce ‘Jacare’ Souza in their main event clash at UFC Fight Night 101, live from the Rod Laver Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on November 27, 2016.

Former longtime UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is coming off of a dominant decision victory over former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at July 9’s UFC 200. That victory earned Aldo the title of interim champion and what he thought was a guaranteed rematch with reigning 145-pound titleholder Conor McGregor, although McGregor was recently booked against lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

After hearing that news, Aldo went off on the UFC, saying that he no longer has interest in fighting and that he hopes to be released from his contract. In the wake of “Scarface’s” comments, PRIDE and UFC veteran Wanderlei Silva, a fellow Brazilian, invited him to Japan to compete under the Rizin banner.

Now, however, “The Axe Murderer” is suggesting that McGregor ‘fears’ Aldo. Silva also said that Aldo should continue to fight:

“McGregor fears Aldo, which is understandable,” he said. “I would be scared, too. Aldo is hands down the best fighter in the division and you can’t just mess with someone like that. When you mess with a fighter like that, it’s not about the money anymore. My dad used to say you don’t mess with a man. So don’t mess with Aldo. If you want his fans and his show, you need to respect him and not make empty promises,” Silva told Combate.

“But if I could give Aldo a piece of advice today, it would be for him to calm down a think about his fans. He’s still very young and has 10, 12 fights left in him and he can’t leave his fans, like me, without that fight and many others he can still have. Besides, he can still bring a lot of joy to our country.”

Do you expect to see Aldo compete again?

Coming off of his dominant win over Vitor Belfort earlier this month at UFC 204, No. 5-ranked middleweight Gegard Mousasi is looking to fight again before year’s end en-route to the coveted 185-pound title.

Following the contest Mousasi fired shots at various UFC stars including middleweight champ Michael Bisping, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and 145-pound champ Conor McGregor.

Mousasi took to The MMA Hour earlier today, courtesy of MMA Fighting, to state that ‘The Notorious One’ didn’t take too kindly to his comments, and threatened him with a knife over a private message on Twitter:

“That ginger-headed f*ck is retarded,” Mousasi said. “In the interview I mentioned, they were talking about respect or whatever, and then he texted me on Twitter. He messaged me, and I said, ‘what’re you going to do with your 50kg?’ And then he was, I don’t know, he was philosophical or whatever the f*ck he was writing, he was like, ‘a knife is lighter than a pound, it can cut from ear-to-ear,’ whatever the f*ck he was writing.

“That guy is a bum. He’s a 50kg guy, what the f*ck is he going to do? I bet if he’s face-to-face, he’s not going to say that. But you know, Twitter gives some people courage.”

When asked if it was truly McGregor’s account, Mousasi was certain the account was the featherweight champion’s, and dared the Irishman to issue the threat face-to-face:

“No, it was him,” Mousasi said. “It was his account.”

“I don’t know what he was mentioning with the knife,” Mousasi said. “… I don’t have it with me now, but he put a lot of thought into his message. The guy has a lot of time, I don’t know.

“I said ‘say it to my face,’ but I bet he’s not going to do that.”

Speaking of ‘Notorious’, McGregor will challenge Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 205 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is looking to make the fourth defense of her 115-pound title when she meets fellow undefeated Polish contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz at November 12’s UFC 205 from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York.

While admitting that Kowalkiewicz is a well-rounded fighter, Jedrzejczyk doesn’t seem to be worried, and she doesn’t see the fight lasting until the final bell either:

“She’s taken big steps in her fighting career,” Jedrzejczyk said. “She’s a UFC fighter, she’s gone 3-0 in the UFC so she’s doing pretty well. “She’s very tough physically and mentally. Her cardio is on point so like I said, it’s going to be a really, really good fight.”

“I will mix a little bit of the fight with Jessica Penne and she’s going to get enough punches and kicks to the head. Then I will take a little bit of the fight with Carla Esparza. She will try to take me down because she will have had enough of the punches. Then I will finish her on the ground with a maximum of round three.

“This fight is very big for me. I don’t want to just win; I want to win so badly. Even more than with Claudia Gadelha,” Jedrzejczyk told Submission Radio.

“Joanna Champion” also acknowledged that Kowalkiewicz will likely come in with a solid game plan, although she claims that she’s a ‘different’ type of animal:

“The thing is though, we all have these kind of plans until the first punch. All of my opponents have had some plans, Karolina has some plans for our upcoming fight, but the thing is I’m a different fighter. I’m a really tough fighter on the night of the fight–I’m like the person from the hood. Until the first punch she might have some game plan, but after that not anymore.”

Which Polish combatant do you see walking away with UFC gold next month?

UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero returns at UFC 205 this coming November 30. After learning he’d failed a drug test in January of this year, ‘Soldier of God’ appealed and got his suspension reduced to six months. Facing Chris Weidman in New York City, Romero has been the subject of some criticism from ‘The All-American.’ Weidman has always stood against steroid users in MMA, of whom he’s faced quite a few. His last five fights have featured three fighters (Anderson Silva twice) who have failed drug tests in the last three years.

Now that USADA is running the show, things are a little different. There are fewer places to hide and less substances that can go undetected. Although it was a long time coming, the new dope testing regime is here. The MMA world figured things were going to get worse before they got better, but few expected the high-profile busts of the last 12 months. In the case of Romero, the tainted supplement defense was accepted by the doping agency, but he’s still been taking plenty of heat from fellow fighters.

Romero Accuses Weidman

In an interesting twist on the plot at 185 pounds, Yoel Romero has accused UFC 205 opponent Chris Weidman of some fishy business. ‘Soldier of God’ says ‘The All-American’ looks different since USADA came to town. Here’s what Romero said over Twitter:

Let’s Take a Look

After Romero’s insinuation regarding Weidman’s physique, let’s take a look at a comparison picture.

The Verdict

In a way, Yoel Romero is right. Chris Weidman does look different since USADA, if anything he looks better. That said, his form was not on par with what we’ve become accustomed to in his last bout. Luke Rockhold battered Weidman to a bloody pulp at UFC 194, and Romero is one hell of a rebound fight for the former champion.

Jose Aldo: Dana White Offered Me More Money To Avoid Fighter’s Union

Interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and the promotion are not in a good standing as of right now, as the Brazilian champion is calling for the termination of his contract after being denied his rematch with 145-pound champion Conor McGregor to unify the two titles.

McGregor will instead be challenging for his second title when he takes on Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 for the lightweight title. Aldo, who is hoping to be released of his UFC contract in order to pursue other interests, recently sat down for a media scrum in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday to discuss his issues with the UFC.

Aldo has always been a strong advocate for a fighter’s union over the past few years he’s been with the promotion, however, he revealed that UFC President Dana White told the ‘Scarface’ that he would receive a ‘bigger slice of the cake’ if he avoided a union:

“Not only now that I’m the one being affected, but I always talked about it and defended better things for Brazilian athletes,” Aldo said (courtesy of MMA Fighting). “In a conversation, Dana himself came and told me not to take anyone’s sides because the cake would be split the same for everyone, but I could get a bigger slice if I stayed quiet.”

Aldo believes fighters should have established a union a long time ago, bashing his fellow athletes for being ‘disunited’. The interim 145-pound champ also stated that a union would play in favor to his fellow Brazilian fighters as well:

“We should have that a long time ago already,” Aldo said. “Pepper in other’s a** is refreshment. When everyone can talk, nobody does, but when you feel it yourself… I think our class is disorganized, disunited. If we were more united, it would be better, for sure. Nobody would do what they want with us.

“Today, they pay two, five, 10 thousand to fight in the UFC. This class is f**king disunited. It would be completely different for Brazilians if we were more united, not only in MMA.”
