The MMA world continues to fervently discuss the highly anticipated return of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, but there remains little to no concrete evidence that “Rowdy” will be back anytime soon.

If and when she does make her way back to the Octagon, Rousey has understandably been promised a title shot against current titleholder Amanda Nunes. The fight has been rumored for December 30’s UFC 207, but it’s nothing more than a rumor until we hear otherwise from Rousey.

It’s probably going to happen at one time or another; it’s simply too difficult to imagine Rousey retiring after on brutal knockout loss to Holly Holm, who has since lost two straight fights since beating “Rowdy” for the belt last year. But should “Rowdy” decide to return against the top female bantamweight, her longtime rival Miesha Tate had some words of advice for her during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, and they were understandably rooted in her vicious UFC 200 submission loss to “The Lioness”:

“I feel like there’s so many weird variables, it’s really, really hard to say, because who knows what we’re going to get out of Ronda when she comes back,” Tate said. “If we’re getting Ronda at the best that she’s ever been, then I’d say Ronda (would win the fight).

“But if we’re getting Ronda coming back with a half-ass mentality, kind of like ‘I just feel like I have to do this one time,’ and then she’s got a lot of ring rust and maybe she’s still punch-shy since she hasn’t fought since Holly, and we all saw that obviously Amanda has incredible power with her right hand — so if she hits Ronda with one of those, I could see it being a huge problem for Ronda. A big, big problem.”

Tate vs Rousey 1

Tate infamously was involved in a long-held rivalry with Rousey that dates back to their first fight in Strikeforce, where Tate lost her bantamweight title to Rousey with a brutal first-round armbar. That vicious, submission-focused machine seems so far gone now, however, and it’s hard to imagine Rousey could return to the hunger that drove her back then after so much fame and obligation clearly cut into her athletic career.

“Cupcake” isn’t sure like most are not, and that’s why she foresees a great amount of uncertainty if Rousey does sign to face Nunes:

“So it’s kind of hard to say, honestly. I really just don’t know what we’re going to get with Ronda. I know what we’re going to get with Amanda. I just have no idea what we’re going to get with Ronda.”

More than kind of hard to say, the MMA community would most likely attest. One thing is for certain, though. Wherever, whenever, and against whomever Rousey does decide to return, it will be one of the most-watched spectacles in UFC history.

As far as Amanda Nunes is concerned, she is putting forth plans to compete at UFC 207 against former champion Ronda Rousey.

Nunes, who won the belt at UFC 200 in July over Miesha Tate, has yet to defend the female bantamweight championship.

“I don’t know anything yet, I’m waiting for the call. It’s highly likely, right?” Nunes said in an interview with Combate. “Those girls are crazy. Juliana Pena says I’m running from her, Valentina Shevchenko also said I’m running from her, and now she’s saying Juliana Pena is running from her, too. I don’t like to play games.

“If they ask me who I want to fight, I’m going to say I want to fight Ronda. I’m not running from anyone, I’m the champion and I can choose who I’m going to fight. I will choose what’s best for me and Ronda would be ‘the’ main fight, that’s why it has to be against her, it has to be with Ronda.”

UFC 207 is set for December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Rousey has not fought since losing the belt to Holly Holm this past November.

Reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is still fresh off of her devastating first round stoppage over Miesha Tate last July, but it appears as if she’s looking to get back into the Octagon sometime soon to defend her title.

Nunes has multiple options regarding potential opponents including No. 3-ranked Valentina Shevchenko and No. 5-ranked Julianna Pena. Recently speaking on the matter, however, Nunes made it very clear who she’d like to fight next:

“I don’t know anything yet, I’m waiting for the call. It’s highly likely (a bout with Ronda Rousey), right?” Nunes told Combate. “Those girls are crazy. Juliana Pena says I’m running from her, Valentina Shevchenko also said I’m running from her, and now she’s saying Juliana Pena is running from her, too. I don’t like to play games.

Rousey has been out of action since being brutally knocked out by Holly Holm last November, but it has been rumored that she could potentially return at December’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas. Nunes also said that she could be competing next on that card, and if it happens to be against the “Rowdy” one, the Brazilian champion would be quite confident:

“I train at American Top Team today, the biggest MMA gym in the world, and it will be complicated to take this belt away from me,” Nunes said. “Ronda knows what’s like to have this belt, she knows the power this belt has. I think that’s why she’s taking so long to sign this contract.”

Who would you expect to come out victorious if these two ladies were to meet in the coming months?

Earlier this week, we reported that former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was interested in a rematch with the man who took the belt from him at June 2015’s UFC 188, Fabricio Werdum. Velasquez appeared to be the leading option for the next shot at current titleholder Stipe Miocic, but it appears as if the Mexican American isn’t willing to wait for Miocic, who’d like to take some time off after fighting three times over the last nine months.

Now just days later and it seems as if the bout is all but confirmed. According to a report from MMAJunkie, which was later confirmed by MMAFighting, both Velasquez and Werdum have agreed to rematch at December 30, 2016’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

After being submitted by “Vai Cavalo” in Mexico City, Velasquez took some time off, but bounced back at July 9’s UFC 200 by steamrolling through Travis Browne in the first round of their main card bout.

Werdum also got back into the win column against Browne at last weekend’s (September 10, 2016) UFC 203 via unanimous decision. Prior to that bout, the Brazilian surrendered his strap in brutal fashion to Miocic last May.

The winner of this potential bout between Velasquez and Werdum will likely receive the next shot at gold.

Cormier Vows To KO Rumble In Rematch: “You Don’t Hit As Hard As People Think”

The trash-talk between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Daniel Cormier on social media continued on Friday, with both fighters debating when and where they will meet and D.C. issuing an incredibly bold prediction on how the fight will go.

After challenging Cormier to a rematch at the UFC 205 show in November in New York, D.C. told the knockout artist that he would have to wait until UFC 207 in Las Vegas in December, but that he would be next because he’s not going to wait around for Jon Jones.

The fun continued on Friday as Rumble and Cormier went back-and-forth a number of times on social media. During the Twitter exchanges, Rumble continued to push for the fight to take place at the historic UFC 205 event that will see the Octagon in the middle of the world-famous Madison Square Garden arena for the first-ever UFC event in the state of New York.

Meanwhile, Cormier continues to insist that he will give him the shot at the UFC 207 pay-per-view, rumored to include Cormier’s teammate and friend Cain Velasquez finally fighting the man who ended his UFC Heavyweight Championship reign, fellow former UFC Heavyweight title holder Fabricio Werdum.

Oh yeah, D.C. also tossed in a bold prediction.

“December 30th I’ll be waiting for ya,” wrote Cormier. “No wrestling! I’ll give [you] a shot. I’m gonna knock you out!”

The reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, who won via decision in their first meeting, continued, “Truth [is] I’ll knock you out before [you] knock me out. [You] don’t hit as hard as people think. I’ll stand right in front of [you].”

So what did Rumble, who just knocked out dangerous striker Glover Teixeira in just 13 seconds at last month’s UFC 202 pay-per-view, think about Cormier’s claim that he doesn’t hit hard and that it will be D.C, not Rumble, who wins by knockout in their rematch?

“Man, hush,” said Johnson. Before closing with a “#RumbleCares” hash-tag, Johnson concluded, “Just stop, please.”
