Fans haven’t heard nor seen much from former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey since she lost to Amanda Nunes by first-round TKO at December’s UFC 207.

The general consensus is that Rousey will never set foot into the octagon again, a view that UFC President Dana White recently agreed with. She has appeared in other areas, such as a guest spot on NBC’s “Blindspot,” and news broke that she and boyfriend Travis Browne had gotten engaged.

It seems many fans are torn on if she should return, but several fighters have weighed in with the opinion that she should dust herself off and get back to training. None have done it as forcefully as dominant UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, however, who called out Rousey for her self-imposed exile during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated:

“You look at Ronda Rousey. You got your ass beat, grow the f—k up. It happens. It’s mixed martial arts. I don’t want to be like that. If I lose, I’ll be like, I lost. Everybody f—ing loses. It’s part of the sport.

“Grow up. Look, Ronda, you lost two f—ing fights in a row, and you made more f—ing money than the women’s roster. You’ll be fine, don’t worry about it.”

Johnson may be feeling a bit jaded following his record-tying tenth title defense, signifying that the pound-for-pound king is one of the all-time greats in UFC history. But that hasn’t translated into success at the box office and therefore, his pocketbook, as “Mighty Mouse’s” most recent win over Wilson Reis at UFC on FOX 24 drew some of the lowest-ever ratings for a FOX-aired card.

He also touched on the fact that CM Punk made more money than he did in his first UFC bout even though it was his only MMA contest and he was badly beaten by a prospect (albeit a talented one) himself. That seems to be a growing source of contention for many UFC fighters these days, but none have the body of work or right to complain as much as “Mighty Mouse” does.

He’s far and away the best fighter currently active on the UFC roster (no, Jon Jones is not active right now), and it’s a travesty to see him paid less than those who have never even fought.

As for Rousey, well, perhaps Johnson has a good argument for her situation, but like he also said, she’s probably made more than enough money to never consider fighting again.

Her unwillingness to even talk to the media after her first-ever loss to Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193 may show that she doesn’t want the exposure that comes with being a high-profile fighter anymore. Should she grow up and return to the octagon, or are her two latest beatings simply something she refuses to come back from?

Flashback: Watch UFC Champ Cody Garbrandt Get Knocked Out Cold

After winning the UFC bantamweight title from 135-pound legend Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of last December’s UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt is headed for a highly-publicized title bout with former champion TJ Dillashaw in the co-main event of July 8’s UFC 213 from Las Vegas. Their bad blood comes from their well-documented history as onetime

Their bad blood comes from their well-documented history as onetime teammates at Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, a camp where Dillashaw became the team’s first UFC champion – and also where Garbrandt reportedly knocked him out in training as a rising prospect. When Dillashaw split the team alongside former TAM head coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig; however, a dividing rift was created and “The Viper” became instant enemies opposite his old training partners and friends.

With Faber now retired, Garbrandt seems to have taken up the onus of defending Team Alpha Male’s name against a man they feel is a “snake” after he supposedly sold them out to take the higher payday at Colorado’s Elevation Fight Team. Riding high on one of the most impressive performances ever witnessed at 135 when he outclassed Cruz over five rounds, Garbrandt is quickly becoming one of the hottest rising stars in MMA.

But it wasn’t always like that, because while Garbrandt is undefeated in his professional MMA career, he lost two bouts in his amateur career, and one of them came when he was absolutely floored by Jerrell Hodge in the North American Allied Fighting Series (NAAFS) back in early 2012. Watch the shocking KO video right here:

Such a brutal stoppage loss will stick in a fighter’s mind, but while Cruz tried to point to the loss to Hodge as a sign of weakness, Garbrandt was quick to turn that around with his belief that the knockout only served to make him a much better and stronger fighter.

It’s hard to argue with that train of thought, too, as the ultra-exciting “No Love” has reeled off 11 consecutive wins against top competition, including nine by T/KO and seven in the first round. Garbrandt obviously displays knockout power that we’ve rarely if ever seen in the bantamweight division, and his rigorous commitment to training with TAM has paid big dividends for his all-around game during a meteoric rise to prominence as a young and marketable champion.

And it couldn’t be at a more opportune time, either, as the UFC currently needs bankable stars arguably more than they ever have in their nearly 24-year history. Dillashaw brings some of the most confusing footwork along with amazing accuracy and an NCAA-level wrestling background, but Garbrandt showed he could easily withstand all the skills of “The Dominator,” who beat Dillashaw, albeit quite narrowly, in their early 2016 meeting.

MMA math rarely adds up, and the bad blood dynamic of this fight will certainly mean that emotions will be running high for both sides. The drama of the TV show has amplified that to a much greater degree as well, especially with Faber present as one of Garbrandt’s coaches.

Dillashaw will bring a unique challenge, that much is true, but it’s also one Garbrandt has seen before. So while the champ has been brutally knocked out before, he’s shown he has rebounded to become one the fast-rising stars in all of MMA.

On a night where July 8’s UFC 213 from Las Vegas gained a multitude of high-profile fights, the last announcement of the evening could signify that the card will already feature two title fights.

A reported surfaced from MMA Fighting late in the evening that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will defend her title against surging No. 1 contender Valentina Shevchenko. It’s unknown which position Nunes vs. Shevchenko will occupy on the main card as of this writing.

The potential bout will be a rematch of their first meeting at 2016’s UFC 196, where Nunes narrowly outlasted Shevchenko by dominating early action with her patented power striking before having the tables turned on her as she badly faded in the final frame. “Bullet” rebounded impressively by beating former champion Holly Holm by decision at UFC on FOX 20 and earned her proposed rematch with Nunes by submitting Julianna Pena in the main event of January’s UFC on FOX 23.

Nunes’ recent run has been even more impactful, as she went on to run over former champion Miesha Tate in the main event of last July’s UFC 200, parlaying that into by far the biggest win of her illustrious MMA career when she stopped legendary inaugural UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey with a shocking 48-second TKO at December 30’s UFC 207.

This blockbuster will join the recently announced Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone, Fabricio Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem, and Anthony Pettis vs. Jim Miller alongside the previously announced Cody Garbrandt vs. TJ Dillashaw title bout for what is turning out to be an absolutely stacked card for the UFC’s traditional midsummer spectacular.

The latest we’ve heard about former UFC champion Ronda Rousey, she was only fighting on NBC’s “Blindspot” and announcing her engagement to boyfriend Travis Browne.

There’s been next to no discussion of her fighting future aside from some cryptic online posts in the months after her first-round TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at December 30’s UFC 207, her second straight knockout loss.

Most, including UFC President Dana White, believe she’s highly unlikely to return to the notoriously brutal sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), and indeed it probably wouldn’t be a surprise if we never saw ‘Rowdy’ return to the octagon she dominated with a streak of six straight title fight stoppages from February 2013 to August 2015.

After two brutal TKO losses, it’d be easy to blame the perception that the women’s bantamweight division has just passed her by, but that’s not the case according to her judo coach Jason Flores, who told Submission Radio (via MMA Mania) that she most likely wouldn’t return because the lifelong grind of competing to be the best finally caught up to Rousey:

“Personally I don’t think it’s in the cards. I don’t think that’s what she wants in this time of her life. I mean, I’m not discounting anything. Maybe later. But I just don’t see that being something she wants to jump into and focus full force to be the best. Because if she’s gonna do anything, from what I know about her, she’s gonna do it to be the best. And not that I don’t think that she can be the best, it’s just, I just don’t know if her body and her mind at this stage in her life, if that’s what’s right for her. She’s competed her whole life. Her whole life has been about being the best, and I just think personally, the best thing is for her to kind of be okay with herself not as a fighter.”

Flores detailed the struggles of Rousey’s career that we don’t see in the public eye, citing multiple operations and weight cutting among other other undesired consequences of the game, for why she’s ready to call it a career at 30 years old. Apparently ‘Rowdy’s’ ready to live a long and healthy life with Browne and their family, so fighting simply isn’t part of that any longer:

I just know the pain she’s gone through physically, doing this forever, multiple surgeries, concussions, broken bones, weight cutting. All those things add up and take its toll, and it’s accumulative. So being 30 years old now and doing this since you were eight years old non-stop, I mean, the mileage you’ve put on your body and that she’s put on her body, I just don’t think if she wants to, you know, live a long happy life and raise kids with Travis, which I know that’s the future, I just don’t think that’s something I feel like would be in her best interests.”

Ronda Rousey may be semi-retired from mixed martial arts (MMA), and now she’s got some big plans for her future.

News arrived from TMZ Sports this afternoon (Thurs., April 20, 2017) that Rousey recently got engaged to her boyfriend, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne:

“We’re getting married,” Rousey said.

Browne elaborated on his proposal, which included a large diamond ring for his queen. “Hapa” said the time was right during a picturesque scene on a recent trip to New Zealand:

“We were out under a waterfall in New Zealand and it felt like the right place to do it.”

Rousey then revealed the couple hadn’t set a date for the nuptials, but didn’t want an all-out gala involving too many details, as she didn’t know what all went into planning a big wedding:

“Soon, but I don’t know what goes into planning a wedding. It could be really easy. I don’t really want a lot. We don’t really need decorations or flowers, just somewhere to go and something to eat and some people around.”

Rousey and Browne have been dating since 2015 after training together at Edmond Tarverdyan’s Glendale Fighting Club. That shared meeting place obviously worked wonders for their love life, but it’s also been the center of a hotbed of controversy surrounding the concerning direction both fighters’ careers have taken in recent years.

Rousey is unlikely to return to the sport after two knockout losses to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 and Holly Holm at UFC 193, while Browne has lost five out of his last seven bouts, including a stoppage defeat to Derrick Lewis in a his last bout. “Hapa” had supposedly sought a change of scenery prior to the loss to “The Back Beast,” a fight he very nearly won only to lose, but Tarverdyan was still in his corner.

As for the once-dominant queen of MMA, she’s been seen in a guest role on NBC’s “Blindspot,” a role that could turn reportedly into a more frequent one, but her future involvement, if any, with MMA is currently unknown.

After over a year away from the sport, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returned to action this past December at UFC 207, but once again fell short, suffering a 48-second knockout loss to reigning 135-pound queen Amanda Nunes. The loss marked the second consecutive loss by T/KO for the once-dominant Rousey.

Since UFC 207, “Rowdy” has remained exceedingly quiet regarding her future. UFC President Dana White recently said that while he speaks to Rousey on a regular basis, he has not talked to her about fighting:

“I have not (talked to her about fighting again),” White MMAJunkie.com at UFC 210 this past Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y. “Ronda and I talk maybe once a week, once every two weeks. She has not said anything to me about a comeback.”

The UFC is currently in need of legitimate pay-per-view draws and Rousey is certainly one of the company’s biggest-ever stars, but we may have seen the last of the former bantamweight champion. In fact, White said that if he had to take a guess, he would guess that Rousey ‘will not come back’ to fighting:

“If I had to guess, I would guess that she will not come back,” White said.

Would you like to see Rousey return, or would you rather her remain away from the cage after suffering back-to-back stoppage losses?
