Daniel Cormier (19-1) repeated history and submitted Anthony Johnson (22-6) a second time.

The stage was set for the main event of UFC 210 inside the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY. Cormier defended his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title against Johnson once again.

Johnson landed a body kick at the start of the fight. Cormier threw a heavy overhand right. “Rumble” moved forward aggressively, but the champion tied him up. He landed a knee to the body with his back against the fence. Cormier landed was elbows and was taken down briefly. Johnson went for a takedown, but couldn’t get it.

A knee to the body landed for Johnson. “Rumble” tried to throw a high kick, but he was too close to Cormier to land. Johnson nailed Cormier with a kick. “Rumble” engaged in the clinch again. The round later ended with a Johnson takedown that may have not been before the bell.

Cormier’s nose appeared broken going into the second round. Johnson went for a knee to the body, but Cormier pushed him against the cage. Johnson reversed the position and dropped down for a takedown. Cormier got back up quickly. He ate a knee to the body before taking “Rumble” down and getting the back. Cormier land some punches before locking in the rear-naked choke.

After the fight, Johnson revealed that this was the last fight of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

Gegard Mousasi (42-6-2) defeated Chris Weidman (13-3) and a ton of controversy followed. Weidman, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title holder, took on Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 210. Mousasi, who is a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, looked to secure the biggest win in his run under the UFC banner.

Gegard Mousasi (42-6-2) defeated Chris Weidman (13-3) and a ton of controversy followed.

Weidman, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title holder, took on Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 210. Mousasi, who is a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, looked to secure the biggest win in his run under the UFC banner.

Mousasi grazed Weidman with a right hand. Weidman connected with a jab. “All-American” had his head kick caught, but avoided danger. He went for a single leg takedown and got it. Weidman looked for a choke, but Mousasi thwarted it and stood back up. A leg kick found the mark for an off balanced Weidman. He took “The Dreamcatcher” down again.

Weidman pressed his opponent against the fence, but the two broke off. Weidman landed a right hand. As Mousasi was moving forward, Weidman went for another takedown. “The Dreamcatcher” stuffed it. The round ended with Weidman in top control off a slip.

A high kick from Weidman was blocked. A jab landed for Mousasi and he had relentless pressure. He then went for a takedown of his own. Weidman stuffed it and dumped Mousasi to the canvas. He moved to full mount. Mousasi gave up his back. The two scrambled and stood back up.

Time was called, Mousasi landed what looked to be an illegal knee to the head. Color commentator Joe Rogan pointed out that the second knee strike may have been legal because Weidman’s hands were up just before Mousasi landed a knee. Referee Dan Miragliotta recognized it as a legal knee, but there is no replay in New York and Weidman shouldn’t be given five minutes. Despite that, the doctors were inside the Octagon.

Ultimately, the fight was stopped and Mousasi was declared the winner by technical knockout.

The second bout on the main card of UFC 210 featured a welterweight tilt. Former title challengers Alves and Cote went one-on-one inside the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY.

Cote went for a leg kick, but got hit with a punch. Alves had his own leg kick. Cote was clipped with a knee to the head. “The Predator” got in a right hand. Cote had his kick caught and got hit with a left hook that dropped him. Alves landed some elbows and hammerfists as the round ended.

“The Predator” moved forward early in the second stanza. A short elbow landed for Alves. The “Pitbull” connected with a leg kick followed by a right hand. Cote landed a right hand. A high kick from Alves was blocked. Cote fell to his knees from a huge shot. “The Predator” got back up and the two met at the center of the Octagon. The round ended about 30 seconds later.

Time was called quickly for an inadvertent low blow from Alves. The action resumed shortly after. Cote landed a body shot followed by a punch upstairs. He went for a takedown, but Alves stuffed it. The “Pitbull” ended up securing a takedown. The two men returned standing. Cote threw some uppercuts and played a bit to the crowd. Alves landed a flying knee before the final horn sounded.

When the score totals were read, all three judges gave the nod to Alves. After the fight, Cote put his gloves on the canvas and announced his retirement.

Final Result: Thiago Alves def. Patrick Cote via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
