Daniel Cormier missed weight this morning (Fri. April 7, 2017) prior to his scheduled title defense in the main event of the UFC 210 pay-per-view (PPV) tomorrow night.

The UFC light heavyweight champion initially hit the scale at 206.2 pounds, leaving many to believe that the highly-anticipated title fight was to be called off after ‘DC’ failed to meet the 205-pound weight limit. Cormier then returned 2:24 later and weighed in at 205 pounds.

Cormier was able to drop 1.2 pounds in a matter of two-and-a-half minutes, however, when he hit the scale the second time the light heavyweight champ seemed to be putting weight on the towel he was holding, but it is not known if that affected the scale’s reading. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) approved the weight as valid despite the fact that fighters are typically not given a second chance to make weight in the UFC’s new weigh-in format.

Soon after No. 1-ranked title challenger Anthony Johnson weighted in at 203.8 pounds, and the 205-pound title bout was confirmed. The controversy behind Cormier’s weight cut, however, will continue to be the talk of the town this weekend.

Gegard Mousasi Says Michael Bisping Is ‘Weakest’ Of Top Middleweights

No. 5-ranked UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi will look to extend his winning streak to five straight when he meets former 185-pound champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of this weekend’s (April 8, 2016) UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York. No. 5-ranked UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi will look to extend his winning streak to five straight when he meets former 185-pound champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of this weekend’s (April 8, 2016) UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York.

The fight with Weidman will represent a tough test for the surging “Dreamcatcher”, but it was a fight he asked for:

“Let’s be honest, he’s got two losses [in a row] so if it was me, I would have chosen an easier fight also,” Mousasi told the Fight Society podcast (Via FOX Sports) when speaking about Weidman. “Eventually, he took the fight. Kudos to him.

“I was just looking for a fight and a lot of fighters weren’t available so the UFC were pushing for the Chris Weidman fight.”

A win would do wonders for Mousasi, a former DREAM and Strikeforce champion, but it likely wouldn’t warrant him a title shot given the cloudy and stacked nature of the middleweight division. Mousasi actually touched on the division’s top contenders as well, labeling champion Michael Bisping as the ‘weakest’:

“On any given day, the top five guys can beat each other,” Mousasi explained. “It’s very evenly matched. Yoel Romero, his fight with “Jacare” [Souza], Luke Rockhold, they’re all evenly matched and can beat each other. Michael Bisping is the weakest and he’s the champion, but he will be done soon. That’s one thing for sure.

“One of those top five guys is a tough opponent to face. We’ll see how it goes.”

Who would you like to see Mousasi face next if he gets by Weidman on Saturday?

Following a late change of plans when their scheduled rematch was forced out of the UFC 206 main event last December, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and op contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson will finally rematch for the gold in the main event of this Saturday night’s (April 8, 2017) UFC 210 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

The odds are razor-thin in this one, with ‘Rumble’ actually rating a small favorite at most sports books; a somewhat surprising fact based on the sheer dominance with which Cormier handled him in their first match-up at 2015’s UFC 187 after getting dropped by a huge right hand early on. ‘Rumble’ has been on arguably the most torrid three-fight stretch of his career since, knocking out top contenders Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader, and Jimi Manuwa in rapid succession while “DC” has been on the sidelines nursing multiple leg injuries as he remains without an official title defense since October 2015.

The fight promises to be a close one where the fighter who can implement his polar opposite gameplan first will most likely win. Cormier and Johnson appeared in front of fans and media at today’s (Thurs., April 6, 2016) UFC 210 open workout sessions. Watch their full open workouts courtesy of MMA Fighting below and see if you can notice any slight edge each fighter may have on the other:
